Thefts Continue on Bartholomew Street

Brockville Police are investigating a report of another daytime theft on Bartholomew Street, near the same area of the weekend break-ins.

Around 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon a Brockville area woman reported to police she had parked her vehicle on Bartholomew Street between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. When she returned her purse containing all of her identification, cards and money was missing.

Pulled Fire Alarm at The Bar

A pair of unidentified males who were refused service at The Bar (the former Commercial Hotel) are being sought for pulling the fire alarm early this morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m. this morning Brockville Police and Brockville Fire received a call from The Bar that the unidentified males had pulled the fire alarm pull station and ran out the door toward the back alley toward Sheridan Mews. The men are described as being in their late 20’s and one of them was wearing an orange sweater.

Reminder of Weekend Traffic Disruptions

There are a number of events taking place this weekend which will be causing minor traffic disruptions in the City of Brockville and area over the weekend.

On Saturday September 16th area Truck Drivers will be hosting their annual ‘Trucking for a Cure’ in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Truckers will begin staging in the Brockville Shopping Centre lot before exiting the lot and entering the 401 westbound to Long Beach where they will turn and return eastbound on Highway 2 and continue eastbound through King Street in Brockville at approximately 11:30 enroute to Prescott. They will then return on the 401 to Brockville for some activities at the Brockville Shopping Centre lot.

The annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday September 17th beginning at 12 noon at Thousand Islands Secondary School. Walkers and runners will complete a 5km route through Parkedale Avenue, Laurier Boulevard and Windsor Drive in Brockville’s north end. Please watch for walkers, runners and volunteers during this time.

At 2 pm on Sunday, The Royal Canadian Legion will be holding a short parade to mark the opening of Legion Week. The ceremony will last approximately ½ hour in front of the Legion between their north parking lot and Edgewood Ave from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Motorists are asked if they could use Ormond Street during this time.

Finally the Canadian Paramedic Ride will be coming through Brockville between 4:00 and 4:30 pm Sunday afternoon. Riders will be entering Brockville leaving the Butternut Bay area around 3:30pm and travel east on highway 2 into Brockville and continue on King Street to Court House and Stewart Boulevard. Cyclists in the Canadian Paramedic Ride begin their tour in Toronto on Friday September 15th enroute to Ottawa for Monday September 18th to raise funds for a National Paramedic Memorial Monument in Ottawa.

Brockville Police ask area motorist to be aware of these minor traffic disruptions over the weekend and ask that everyone drive safely while supporting these charitable events.

Arrest for Empty Envelope Deposits

A 54 year old Brockville man attended to the Brockville Police Service yesterday afternoon and surrendered himself in relation to a fraud investigation involving a deposit of empty envelopes which began on August 23rd.

The man allegedly deposited an empty envelope into an ATM at the Scotiabank on Stewart Boulevard during this time and withdrew cash from his account. Staff at the branch became aware of the incident when emptying the machine and notified the Brockville Police of the incident. The man was contacted by police and surrendered himself Monday.

He was charged with Fraud under $5000 and given a future court date.

Residential break-ins continue

The Brockville Police Service took three more reports yesterday of residential break-ins yesterday which occurred sometime between Friday afternoon and Monday morning.

Shortly after 12 noon yesterday a resident on Bartholomew Street returned home from work on her lunch to find someone had entered her residence through a kitchen window. A number of personal and electronic items were reported to have been taken and the resident is still compiling a complete list of the missing items.

Late yesterday afternoon officers were called to another residence on Bartholomew Street where the owners told police that over the weekend and unknown person or person(s) entered their residence through a kitchen window. At the time the resident there did not believe anything missing.

At 7pm a third resident of Bartholomew Street reported that their house was broken into with entry also gained through a side window. The resident at the time of the report was still going through the residence and putting together a list of items that were missing.

All three houses were on the east side of Bartholomew Street between the CN Tracks and Reynold Drive and entry gained through a window.

The Brockville Police Services Scenes of Crime officers attended all three residence and examined the scenes and collected forensic evidence. These break-ins remain under investigation.

Domestic Dispute leads to Breach of Undertaking Arrest

A call of a loud argument between and young man and woman in front of a Church Street residence early this morning led to the arrest of a 21 year old Brockville man for breaching his release conditions.

Brockville Police were called to the area of Church Street and Clarissa just before 1:30 a.m. this morning when residents in the area could hear a male and a female yelling in the street. When officers arrived they located the young man and his 19 year old girlfriend who both are known to the attending officers.

Police were able to confirm the man was released with conditions not to communicate with the young woman as a result of a July 3rd arrest for a domestic assault which is still before the courts.

As a result he was arrested for breaching his undertaking and held in custody pending a bail hearing later today.

Ottawa Man arrested on Warrant

A 27 year old Ottawa man with an outstanding warrant from Brockville for Failing to Appear for his fingerprints was arrested yesterday afternoon by Ottawa Police and returned to the Brockville to be processed on his new charges.

On June 25th of this year the man and his 23 year old female accomplice were arrested for shoplifting at the Real Canadian Superstore on Parkedale Avenue. At the time of this arrest he was on a probation order for assault, theft and fraud under $5000 for Ottawa area related incidents and as a result was charged for theft under $5000 and breaching his probation and given a fingerprint date of August 3rd in which he failed to show and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

He is now facing additional charges of failing to appear for his fingerprints and was released from custody with several conditions and given a future court date.

More Counterfeit $100 Canadian Bills

Yesterday afternoon a local bank reported to the Brockville Police that one of their business customers had brought in two counterfeit $100 bills they had received as payment.

The fake bills have no serial numbers on the currency and oriental language like symbols on the bills. These counterfeit bills appear to be circulating area businesses along the 401 corridor.

Before accepting $100 bills for payment, businesses are urged to examine the currency first for these symbols and lack of a serial number. If unsure, consider other forms of payment.

Weapons offences

Just before 11 pm last evening Brockville Police received a 911 call of a man swinging an axe on King Street striking signs, fire hydrants and light posts along the way.

Responding officers located a 47 year old Brockville man, who is known to police in the area of Mac’s Milk on King Street with a roofing hammer in his possession which he told police he needed for protection from another male.

The man was placed under arrest for Possessing a Weapon Dangerous to the Public Peace and conveyed to the Brockville Police Service where he held and later released with several conditions and given a future court date.

Public Intoxication

A 37 year old Brockville man was arrested for Public Intoxication early yesterday afternoon when Brockville Police received a call about him in difficulty in the area of Park and Pine Streets.

A caller contacted Brockville Police at 1:20 pm yesterday afternoon to report a man wearing a baseball cap, jeans, a t-shirt and carrying a plastic bag near the intersection of Park and Pine. The man appeared to have difficulty walking and his clothing was in disarray. When officers arrived they located the man nearby and noted he had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath and showed usual signs of being intoxicated.

He was conveyed to the Brockville Police headquarters where he was held until he was sober and given a Provincial Offences Notice for being intoxicated in a public place and released.

Break and Enter on Hastings Drive

A Hastings Drive resident returned home yesterday afternoon to find her gate tampered with and entry gained to her garage and power tools missing.

Officers attended to the residence at 4:40 pm to meet the resident and learned sometime while she was away during the day unknown person(s) had entered her garage and stole power drills and loose change from her garage. Scenes of Crimes officers of the Brockville Police Service attended to the residence and photographed the scene and damage and processed the garage for fingerprints and forensic evidence.

Breach of Probation

A 16 year old female youth was arrested early this morning for breaching her probation order by being out past her curfew without her mother or approved adult.

The young woman was spotted by officers walking alone on Parkedale Avenue shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning and placed under arrest for breaching her probation order. She was escorted to her parent’s residence and released from custody with a future court date and her parents notified.

Mischief Charges from Domestic Dispute

Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute early this morning at a North Augusta Road residence resulting in Mischief charges to the 31 year old female resident.

At 2:45 this morning officers responded to the residence of the female and her 39 year old husband who were drinking and having an argument. During the argument the woman broke the victim’s guitar and tore up one his books.

As a result she was arrested for Mischief Under $5000 and conveyed to the Brockville Police Station where she was held until sober and eventually released on an Officer in Charge Undertaking with several conditions and given a future court date.

Quiet Labour Day

It was a quiet Labour Day for the Brockville Police Service responding to 15 calls for service over the 24 hour period. During the day officers removed two unwanted persons from area residence and responded to one minor disturbance which broke up quickly on officer’s arrival.

Back To School

Now that children in all area School Boards are back to school, the Brockville Police Service will be again monitoring the school safety zones for traffic related offences.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind as students return to school:

• Leave yourself a little extra time to get wherever you are going. Don’t be in a rush and risk the safety of others
• When a bus has its arm extended and flashing lights you must stop. Do not proceed until the lights have been turned off as there still may be children coming or attempting to cross the street.
• Slowdown in school zones and be alert in residential neighbourhoods where children are present.
• Always obey the crossing guards and teach our children to do likewise
• If you drive your children to school, drive carefully in the school zone and never let you child out of the car where they could walk into traffic

The Brockville Police Service would like to wish parents and children a safe and successful school year in 2017-18.

Release Conditions Breached

On the morning of the 2nd of September shortly after midnight officers responded to a noise complaint in the south west end of the city. Upon arrival it was discovered that a 19 year old female and a 23 year old male that were at the residence each had outstanding charges pending against them where they had previously been released on an undertaking to not have any communication with the other. Both persons were arrested for breaching the conditions of their previous release and were held for a show cause this morning. They have been remanded into custody pending bail review for Tuesday.

Weapons Possession

On the 27th August 2017, the Brockville Police Service received a complaint in regards to a female in the area of a South end restaurant brandishing a knife. It was reported that the female was approaching cars and customers appearing to be in an emotional and agitated state. She left the area and officers located her within short proximity of the restaurant. The suspect was identified as a local, 22 year old female. She was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The female was later released with a future court date.
