August 23 – 24, 2016 Incidents

Intoxicated Female

On August 22nd at 5:15 pm, Brockville Police Officers stopped a woman struggling to make her way while walking on a south end street.

The local 30 year old was found to be intoxicated. She was arrested for her own protection and brought to the Police station. She was released with a fine when sober.

 

Theft From Vehicles

On August 23rd at 1:37 pm, Brockville Police responded to a theft in progress on a north end street.

A witness indicated a young female was observed entering their neighbour’s vehicle while parked in the driveway.  Officers located the local 17 year old nearby and found property from the vehicle on her person. Police also located items from a previous theft from vehicle incident.

She was arrested and charged for possession of stolen property. Later in the afternoon, she was released with a future court date.

 

Probation Breach

On August 23rd at 9:42 pm, Brockville Police attended a south end residence to look into a breach of probation.

A local 48 year old woman was placed on probation earlier in the day for harassing her previous neighbour. She managed to breach the order before the day was over by approaching the person named in the order that she was to have no contact with. She was arrested and charged with breaching her probation and released with on conditions with a future court date.

 

Domestic Assault

On August 24th at 1:23 am, Brockville Police attended a south end intersection for a domestic assault investigation.

The 41 year old female victim had left her residence after being assaulted by her 41 year old partner. The accused man had pushed her into a wall and then down a flight of stairs. She suffered injuries that included a broken nose.

The man was no longer at the residence and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.  He faces charges of assault causing bodily harm and breaching an existing probation order.

The victim received medical attention for her injuries.

 

Arson

On August 24th at 10:28 am, Brockville Police attended a working fire in an apartment building on Park Street.

Police have arrested a 51 year old man, who is a tenant of the building. The investigation is ongoing but charges of arson and assault Police have been laid and he will appear in bail court tomorrow afternoon.

When taken to the Police station, the accused spit in an Officer’s face while being asked questions. There is extensive damage to the building as a result but no injuries have been reported. At this point it appears the fire started in the apartment of the accused man.

Victim Services of Leeds Grenville and the Red Cross attended the site to assist other tenants.

Internet Purchase Exchange

The Brockville Police are happy to announce they have designated a space in their parking lot for the exchange of items purchased on-line. “People may take comfort in the fact they are meeting at a location that has video surveillance and 24 hour staffing in order to make an exchange.” – Chief Fraser

It is estimated that thousands of transactions take place each day in our community as people shop on-line. We are also aware that some people may feel uncomfortable or afraid to meet a stranger and conduct an internet transaction.

August 19 – 20, 2016 Incidents

Dogs Left in Vehicles

On August 19th at 11:44 am and 8:22 pm, Brockville Police Officers responded to complaints of dogs being left in vehicles for extended periods of time.

One dog was removed from a vehicle on Blockhouse Island while the owner was on a cruise.   The second vehicle contained three dogs and was parked in the King Street West area. Both owners were residents of Quebec and both issued fines under the city by-law for inhumane treatment of an animal. Officers seized the animals and took them to a local shelter until the owners were tracked down or attended the Police station.

These types of complaints have been far too frequent this summer. Five minutes is a long time to leave a pet locked in a parked vehicle. Police recommend leaving your pet at home on hot days. A partially open window(s) is not sufficient to protect the animal.

 

Intoxicated Male

On August 19th at 8:54 pm, Brockville Police attended the Brockville General Hospital to deal with an intoxicated man outside one of the entrances.

The local 39 year old was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was taken to the station but after a short stay, it was decided that he should be monitored medically for his own well being. When sober, he was released from the hospital and issued a fine.

 

Probation Breach

On August 20th at 4:17 am, Brockville Police checked on a vehicle with two occupants, parked at the Mac Johnson Conservation area.

Officers spoke with a local 18 year old male and a 15 year old female. The male was found to be on a probation order with one of the conditions involving no contact with a female under the age of 16 years. He had been convicted of child luring originally.

The young man was charged with breaching his probation and issued a future court date.

 

Theft of Liquor

On August 19th at 10:28 am, Brockville Police took a theft complaint from the LCBO on King Street West.

The previous day, an unknown male removed a bottle of rye from the store. Officers identified the suspect as a local 47 year old, known to them, after seeing video footage.

On the day of the theft, prior to attending the liquor store, the accused man had an appointment at the Brockville Police station to have his fingerprints taken for other criminal offences. Officers noted that the suspect was wearing the same shirt for both the prints and the theft. The accused was also on conditions of probation and an undertaking for other charges. He has yet to be located but faces charges of theft, breaching his probation order and his undertaking.

 

Wanted Man

On August 20th at 2:28 pm, Brockville Police stopped a vehicle on Broad Street.

A local 51 year old male was an occupant of the vehicle and wanted on a warrant held by our Service. The man was arrested and charged with three counts of breaching his probation order. The warrant stemmed from an incident earlier in August when the man approached another male he was to have no contact with.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing later today.

 

Public Intoxication X Four

On August 20th at 6:18 pm, 7:35 pm, 9:35 pm, and then on August 21st at 7:56 am, four local males were arrested for public intoxication. The first three took place on south end streets and the fourth was near the 401 overpass on North Augusta Road. All four males are known to the Brockville Police. They were released with fines when sober.

Their ages in order of arrest were, 42, 50, 31 and 64 years.

 

Stolen Vehicle

On August 20th at 8:04 pm, Brockville Police took a report of a stolen vehicle. Sometime between 8:00 pm., on the 19th and 8:00 pm., on the 20th, a 2006 Dodge Durango was removed from a residence in the central/west area of the city. The vehicle is grey in colour and the keys had been left inside.

 

Domestic Assault

On August 21st at 9:15 am, Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a south end residence.

A local 48 year old male attended the residence to pick up his child at his ex-wife’s home. A verbal confrontation began between the female resident and a female passenger in the vehicle who was the current partner of the man. The 45 year old woman approached the vehicle and threw a glass of coke through the window. When the male tried to intervene, she slapped him across the face resulting in a small cut.

Officers arrested and charged the woman for assault. She was released later with a future court date and placed on conditions.

 

Break/Enter and Theft

On August 21st at 12:00 pm, Brockville Police responded to a break and enter to a north end apartment building.

The lone, elderly male, resident was recently admitted to a local hospital. Officers discovered his door insecure and began investigating. Several items had been removed from the residence, including a Toronto Police Service watch and a folding leather wallet badge.

Shoplifting

On August 21st at 5:11 pm, Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a theft complaint.

A local 46 year old female stole various items from the store making no attempt to purchase them. She was approached by loss prevention employees and returned to the store. Officers discovered she was in possession of a small quantity of marijuana as well. The woman was arrested and charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance.

She was released with a future court date and placed on conditions.

The Live Streaming of The Tragically Hip

The Brockville Police Service is so grateful to have been part of the live streaming of The Tragically Hip event with our community!

The City of Brockville, the business community, community organizations, and countless individuals pulled together to be able to host a momentous event in less than two weeks!

We had thousands in attendance celebrating this event and were able to raise funds for Brockville Police Service Community Safety Programs!

Thank you to the community for coming out to this celebration and setting an example of how we can have a big party while being safe and having fun at the same time!

August 18 – 19, 2016 Incidents

Fight Results in Injuries

On August 18th at 9:54 pm, Brockville Police attended Hardy Park in regards to a physical fight between two youths.

The local 12 year olds agreed to fight one another. One of the boys however, possibly suffered a broken bone in his upper torso and was being checked out at hospital.  Due to the time of the call, the investigation is ongoing.

 

Breach of Probation

On August 19th at 2:00 am, Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a residence in the center/east portion of the city.  A local 27 year old female wished for her 34 year old boyfriend to be removed from the residence due to his alcohol consumption.

When Officers arrived, the male had left the area on foot. Several minutes later he was located nearby.  The boyfriend was on probation with a condition prohibiting him from consuming alcohol while in the prescence of the female.  He was arrested and charged with breaching his probation order.  When sober, he was released on conditions and issued a future court date.

August 16 – 17, 2016 Incidents

Bail Violation

On August 16th at 3:00 pm, Brockville Police responded to family dispute at an apartment complex in the center of the city.  A 41 year old female reported her son became upset and took off from the residence.  The 16 year old was under conditions as a result of outstanding criminal charges still before the courts.  One of the conditions was to remain within the household.

When Officers caught up to him, he spoke about harming himself.  As a result, he was taken to hospital to check on his mental wellbeing and no charges laid.

On August 17th at 3:20 pm., Brockville Police received information from Youth Probation that the teen had been violating his release conditions on a constant basis and was also breaching conditions of a current probation order.  Officers arrested and charged the subject with breaching both his recognizance and his probation order.  He was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Mischief at Court

On August 16th in the early afternoon, a prisoner at the Brockville Court House began causing problems while in his cell.  The local 28 year old was awaiting his attendance in bail court when he decided to flood the cell block area by clogging a toilet.  He then kicked a phone jack outlet on the wall, rendering it inoperable.

The male was facing two counts of robbery and the mischief charge was added to the list.

 

Public Intoxication

On August 17th at 4:22 pm, Brockville Police attended the 1000 Islands Mall to deal with a man passed out near one of the entrances.

Officers dealt with a local 55 year old who was extremely intoxicated.  For his own safety, he was placed under arrest for public intoxication and taken into custody.  When sober, he was released with a fine.

August 15, 2016 Incidents

Mac’s Milk Robbery

In the afternoon of August 15, an off duty member of the Brockville Police Service recognized our possible robbery suspect in the north end of town.

The local 28 year old has been arrested and charged with the robberies and will appear in bail court later today.

No further details will be released at this point due to the ongoing investigation.

 

Camping under Overpass

On August 15th at 1:33 pm, Brockville Police Officers noticed a man setting up camp under the 401 overpass on North Augusta Road.

Officers spoke to the 50 year old, Ottawa native, and discovered there was a warrant for his arrest out of his home town.  When contacted, their Service had no desire to come and return the man.  This resulted in his release.

A while later, Police learned the man was also on court conditions which he was breaching. One of the conditions included not to leave Ottawa city limits.  Now facing new charges, Officers returned to the campsite but the individual had packed up and left.

A warrant is now being sought for his arrest.

 

Mac’s Milk Robberies

The Brockville Police Service are investigating two weekend robberies at the Mac’s Milk store located at #250 King Street West in Brockville.

On Saturday morning at approximately 3:30 am, a lone male wearing a light coloured long sleeved shirt pulled up over his face and a pair of sunglasses, entered the store brandishing a knife and demanded cash from the store employee.

The suspect then fled the store, last seen headed eastbound on King Street with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police were again called to the store at 11:56 pm, on Sunday night, where again, a lone male with a shirt pulled up over his face, brandished a knife and demanded cash from the employee. He fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

August 11 – 14, 2016 Incidents

Arrest on Warrant

On Aug 11th at 4:00 pm, Brockville Police Special Constables arrested and charged a local 37 year old female for breaching her probation order.

A warrant had been in effect for her arrest and she was aware Officers were trying to locate her. She turned herself into Police at the Courthouse building on Courthouse Square. A new court date was issued and she was released from custody.

 

Probation Charges

On August 11th at 4:54 pm, Brockville Police began investigating a possible breach of probation.

A local 15 year old female was hanging around a local male that she got into trouble with in the recent past. A term of her probation was not to have any communication with him. Her mother reported seeing the two of them together.

This morning, Officers attended the roof of the Wall Street United Church to check on unwanted youths. Police located the same two parties camped out on the top of the building.   The young female was arrested and charged with two counts of breach in regards to her probation order. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

Probation Breach

On August 11th at 5:03 pm, Brockville Police attended St. Lawrence Park for a complaint of three people drinking at the beach area.

Officers spoke to a woman and two men from Quebec. One of the males, 35 year of age, was on probation conditions as a result of domestic assault related charges. One of the conditions of his probation was to have no contact with the female party that was with him in the park. The subject was arrested and charged with breaching his probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing on August 12th.

 

 

Neighbour Dispute

On August 11th at 6:45 pm, Brockville Police attended a neighbour dispute between two women in the center/east portion of the city.

One of the women was picking up dog feces in her yard and throwing it in the yard of her neighbour who’s pet she felt was responsible. The neighbour exited her residence and began throwing handfuls back at her. The dispute went from verbal to physical as both parties grabbed hold of one another. Officers offered advice to both subjects and suggested they stay away from one another.

 

Break and Enter

On August 12th at 5:12 am, Brockville Police attended a break and enter after an alarm was tripped at “All You Need Music” on California Avenue.

Unknown culprit(s) broke into the premises and removed a quantity of merchandise. Police recovered evidence at the scene that will be used to try and learn the identity of those involved.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

Theft of Bicycle

On August 12th at 11:39 am, Brockville Police took a complaint of a stolen bicycle from a south end residence. The victim had a suspect in mind.

Officers attended the suspects residence and located the bike in the driveway. The local 21 year old male was arrested and charged with theft. He was released shortly afterwards with a future court date.

 

 

Breaching Release Conditions

On August 12th at 9:11 pm, Brockville Police responded to an unwanted person call at a north end apartment complex.

A local 22 year old female was spending time with her 31 year old boyfriend at his apartment. The problem was, he is charged with offences against her and can’t have any communication with the young woman. His mother returned home and told the female she had to leave. Things got loud enough that Police were called. Officers arrested and charged the local male with breaching his recognizance. He was remanded into custody and held for a bail hearing.

 

Theft of Vehicle

On August 13th between midnight and 6:00 am, unknown person(s) stole a Jeep Wrangler from a parking lot for an apartment complex in the south/east end of the city.

It was found around 7:00 pm, the same day in a parking lot on Oxford Avenue. The glove box had been forced open but no other damage noted. The vehicle was then reunited with the owner

 

Theft from Purse

On August 13th at 11:45 am, Brockville Police attended the Tall Ships restaurant for a theft complaint.

A Quebec woman left her purse behind and returned very shortly afterwards to retrieve it. The purse had been turned over minus $900 – $1000.

Police are continuing the investigation.

 

Drawing Attention

On August 13th at 8:48 pm, Brockville Police attended the north end Quickie Store to deal with an unwanted male.

A local 28 year old was intoxicated and causing issues for staff in the store. For his own well-being as well as store staff, the young man was arrested and charged with public intoxication. He was released with a fine when sober.

 

Don’t Lie to the Police

On August 14th at 3:21 am, Brockville Police Officers dealt with a local man outside a downtown bar. The 24 year old was bothering others in the area and was spoken to and asked to head home for the evening. He provided Police with a name and date of birth at that time.

Almost an hour later, Officers were asked to attend a south end residence for a disturbance between a young couple.

Officers attended and the same male was the center of the issue. However, Police learned he had given a false name earlier and was actually wanted on warrants by the local OPP detachment. The young man was arrested and charged with obstruct Police and removed from the home to prevent any further problems. Brockville Police finished court documents for the accused and then handed him over to OPP Officers for their warrant.

 

Disturbance in Victoria Park

The Brockville Police Service is looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed a disturbance in the area of Victoria Park on August 12th, 2016 between the hours of 9:00 – 10:00 p.m. involving a newer white vehicle. This vehicle was last observed southbound on Park Street.

This vehicle may have been involved in a near collision in the area of Park Street just south of Pearl Street
