Investigation

February 25 – 26, 2020 News Release

Bail Violations

On the 25th of February 2020 at 5:00 p.m. an officer on routine patrol located a 33 year old female that was wanted for a bail violation.  The female was on conditions to report to the Brockville Police Service, but had failed to do so.  When confronted by police she attempted to run, but was arrested a short distance later.  She has been further charged with resisting arrest.    

 

Arrest

On the 25th of February 2020 at 12:00 p.m. a 28 year old male was arrested for a 2018 robbery occurrence.  The incident occurred July 21st 2018 at a Cartier Court apartment building.  New information became available and the suspect was identified.  He was then arrested and charged with robbery and disguise with intent. 

 

Threats

 A 47 year old male was arrested for uttering threats to cause bodily in a domestic related incident.  The incident occurred on the 22 of February 2020, but he accused was not located until the 24th when police arrested him on Stewart Blvd.  He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

February 22 – 23, 2020 News Release

Counterfeit Warning:

A warning to area merchants that counterfeit $50 bills have been recently passed in the neighbouring area.  We have not had any reports in Brockville as of yet.  Please see the photograph for reference.

 

Shoplift:

On the 23rd of February 2020 at 12:30 p.m. police responded to a complaint of shoplifting at the Metro on King Street West.  The loss prevention officer had a 21 year old female and a 34 year old male in custody for shoplifting.  The 21 year old female had a warrant for her arrest for failing to attend court.  She was held in custody pending a bail hearing.  The male was charged and released at the scene.   

On the 23rd of February 2020 at 9:00 p.m. a 36 year old female was arrested for shoplifting at the Real Canadian Superstore on Parkedale Ave.  The loss prevention officer observed the female selecting various items; then leave the store without any attempt to pay.  She was arrested and turned over to police.  She was charged and released at the scene.

February 20 – 21, 2020 News Release

Motor vehicle collision:

On the 20th of February 2020 at 9:50 p.m. the Brockville Police Service responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision at King St. East and Park St.  The vehicle had been reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a hydro pole at the intersection.  The driver then fled on foot, but was arrested by officers a short distance later.  During a search, officer located a quantity of cocaine on his person.  He has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident and possession of a controlled substance.

February 19 – 20, 2020 News Release

Warrants:

Three people were arrested yesterday in separate incidents for their outstanding warrants.

On the 19th at 12:00 p.m. a 27 year old male turned himself in to court staff when he learned that a warrant had been issued for his arrest.  The male was on charges out of Kingston, but was failing to abide by his conditions.  His surety withdrew and a warrant was issued for his arrest. 

On the 19th at 2:30 p.m. a 50 year old male was observed by police on Wall St. The male had a warrant for his arrest for a theft that occurred on the 4th of February.  The male was identified through CCTV footage in that incident.  He was arrested without incident and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

ON the 20th at 3:00 a.m. a 30 year old female asked staff at the Circle K on King Street West to contact police.  Officers arrived at the store to find out that the female had a warrant for her arrest and wanted to turn herself in.  She was arrested without incident and held in custody for bail hearing.

February 14 – 18, 2020 News Release

Theft:

On February 15th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. the Brockville Police Service responded to a theft complaint at the Metro on King St. West.  A 45 year old male had been arrested by the loss prevention officer for shoplifting.  Officers continued the arrest and discovered that the male was on a probation order with the condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.  The male was charged with theft under $5000 and breach of probation.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

 Weapons:

On February 14th at 11:00 a.m. a 34 year old male was arrested on King St. West for being in possession of a firearm.   Officers had received information that the male was in possession of the firearm.  He was located, along with the firearm and arrested.   The accused has been charged with being in possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, tampering with a serial number and breaching a court order.  He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. 

Conditional Sentence Breach:

On the 14th of February 2020 at 10:00 p.m. police responded to a north end residence in response to complaints that a 29 year old male was intoxicated and breaching his conditional sentence order.  The male was arrested at the residence and transported to the station.  While in cells the male proceeded to urinate on the floors and throw his feces around the cell area.   He was further charged with mischief for his actions.  He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Robbery at Central Avenue Car Wash

Robbery:

The Brockville Police Service is once again asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in a violent robbery.  On the 31st of January shortly after 8:00 p.m. the 64 year old victim was at the Central Avenue Car Wash when he was struck from behind by the suspect.  The victim was knocked to the ground while the suspect continued the assault with punches and kicks.  The suspect then takes the victim’s wallet and leaves in a 4 door blue vehicle. 

The suspect is described as male white, athletic build, short brown hair, wearing a white t-shirt, light coloured blue jeans and white running shoes.

Motor Vehicle Collision Fatality – February 13, 2020

Motor Vehicle Collision Fatality:

On Thursday February 13th 2020 at 1:08 p.m. the Brockville Police Service responded to reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a motor vehicle in the parking lot of the Brockville General Hospital.  The pedestrian, Jeanette Runciman, was struck by a vehicle in the parking lot as it backed out of a space.  Senator Bob Runciman, the spouse of Jeanette, was at the hospital with his wife at the time of the collision.  Witnesses, staff from Brockville General Hospital and paramedics performed immediate first aid on the victim.  She was rushed into the emergency department, but later succumbed to her injuries.  The investigation is ongoing, but it is not considered a criminal investigation.

February 10 – 11, 2020 News Release

Impaired:

On the 10th of February 2020 shortly before 10:00 pm the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a possible impaired driver on Central Ave.  The vehicle was located by officers and stopped.  The driver of the vehicle, a 36 year old male, was arrested for impaired operation by drug.  He was transported to the station where he was evaluated by a drug recognition expert.  Upon failing that test his licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 7 days.  He was released from custody with a future court date for impaired operation of a vehicle. 

There was a 37 year old female passenger in the vehicle.  That female was wanted by our service in relation to an assault from January 5th.  In that incident the female is accused of kicking another female.  She was arrested in relation to that warrant and searched incident to arrest.  Police located a small amount of fentanyl, methamphetamine and pills believed to be ecstasy.  She was further charged with being in possession of a controlled substance. 

February 8 – 10, 2020 News Release

Warrants:

On the afternoon of the 8th of February 2020 a 53 year old male was arrested by Canada Border Services Agency officers when he returned to Canada at Pearson International Airport.  The male had a warrant for his arrest for failing to comply with a court ordered condition.  The male was returned to Brockville and held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Stolen vehicle recovered:

On the 8th of February 2020 at 11:00 a.m. a stolen transport truck was recovered at the Home Depot parking lot on Parkedale Ave.  The vehicle had been reported stolen in Quebec was located abandoned at the store.
