October 28 – 30, 2018 Incidents

Warrants

On Sunday October 28th at 4:00 pm, a 51 year old male was observed by an off duty officer. This male was previously charged with a domestic incident and released with a court date. He had failed to attend court as required and a warrant of arrest was issued. The officer contacted the Brockville Police Service who attended and arrested the accused.

 

Domestic

On Sunday October 28th at 4:30 pm, a 58 year old male was arrested for assault in relation to a domestic occurrence. The male was involved in a heated argument with his common law spouse that escalated to the assault. Police were contacted and the male was arrested for assault without incident. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Mischief

On Monday October 29th at 2:00 pm, a 37 year old male was arrested and charged for mischief. The male broke a window to the front entrance of a building after being evicted.

 

Domestic

On October 29th at 11:01 pm the Brockville Police Service responded to a complaint of a domestic incident at a north end apartment building. The complainant reported to police that her ex-common law spouse had broken into the apartment, assaulted her and took some property. He then left the premise and police were contacted.

On the 30th of October the 21 year old male attended the Brockville Police Service and was arrested for assault, break and enter to commit theft and theft. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

Damian Sobieraj Death Investigation

Damian Sobieraj death investigation

A 15-year old Brockville youth has been arrested this morning in relation to the September 13, 2018 death of 33-year old Damian Sobieraj at Hardy Park.

The youth, who cannot be named, will appear in Bail Court later this afternoon facing charges of Manslaughter, Criminal Negligence Causing Death, Obstruct Police, and Assault.

On the evening of Thursday, September 13, 2018, shortly after 10:30 p.m., Brockville Police received a 911 call from an unidentified male indicating he was in an altercation at Hardy Park with a group of youths. Before 911 Communicators could get the caller’s name and location, the call was dropped and communication lost. Officers responding to the scene stopped persons leaving the park, who indicated they knew nothing of the call. Officers were later able to identify the caller by obtaining subscriber information from the caller’s phone. With the assistance of Brockville Police K9 Unit the entire park was searched and no other persons were located in the park. All officers were able to locate was Sobieraj’s dog, Rosie.

The following day, with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search & Rescue Unit, the body of Damian Sobieraj was located in the river a short distance from the shoreline of Hardy Park. Since that time, four members of the Detective office of the Brockville Police Service have been working full time on the investigation, resulting in today’s arrest.

From the beginning of the investigation, Damian’s family has been in constant contact with the investigative team and updated on the progress of the investigation. At this time, the family is dealing with the tragic loss of a loved one, and police ask that their privacy be respected.

October 27 – 28, 2018 Incidents

Impaired Driving

In the morning hours of the 28th of October 2018 officers were on patrol just after midnight and observed a vehicle being driven without lights being turned on which caused officers to initiate a traffic stop. During the course of the interview an odor of alcohol was detected on his breath. As a result the driver was given a road side screening device demand which resulted in the device issuing a warning alert. The law requires a temporary suspension of driving privileges for a period of 7 days for second time alert warnings, as was the case for this 39 year old man.   The incident didn’t end there. Later on in the evening officers see the same vehicle being operated again without lights turned on and the car is stopped again. This time another male who is under the influence of alcohol is behind the wheel. During that investigation the 64 year old male demands that he will display his sobriety to officers and in the process fails. He was arrested for impaired driving and subsequently supplied samples of his breath which resulted in readings of being over the legal limit and received a future court date for the offence. The vehicle was impounded.

October 25 – 26, 2018 Incidents

Warrant

On the 25th of October 2018, a 29 year old Brockville man was attending a neighboring police service to have fingerprints and photograph taken as he was dealing with criminal allegations in that respective jurisdiction. The Brockville Police Service was advised by the officer in charge that they were dealing with the male and that we had grounds to arrest this same male for an outstanding assault investigation that had been conducted in Brockville.

He was taken into custody and officers from Brockville attended and transported him back to our jurisdiction where he has a bail hearing this afternoon.

October 22 – 23, 2018

Wanted Person

On the 22nd of October, 2018 a 20 year old female was located in relation to a breach of her conditions; by not living at an approved address as set out by the John Howard Society. She was arrested and is in custody pending a bail hearing.

 

October 20 – 22, 2018 Incidents

Wanted Person

On the 20th of October, 2018 at approximately 9:30pm off duty members of the Brockville Police Service were in the downtown area of the City. At that time they observed a 41 year old male who was known to be wanted. The suspect had multiple warrants for his arrest and has been evading police for some time. The off duty officers identified themselves and made the arrest. The male was turned over to on duty officers and held for a bail hearing.

Unlawfully At Large

On the 22nd of October, 2018 at approximately in the early morning hours, the Brockville Police located and arrested two local males who were unlawfully at large as they failed to turn themselves into the Brockville Jail to serve their intermittent sentence. One male was 22 years of age and is a resident of Smiths Falls. The second is a local male who is 37 years of age. Both were held in custody for a bail hearing.

 

October 17 – 18, 2018 Incidents

During the period of the 24 hour tour of duty on the 17/18 October 2018 at the Brockville Police Service our officers responded to 33 calls for service and made 2 arrests.

One of which was a traffic stop by officers made at 2:10 in the morning of the 18th of October on a downtown street in the cities south end.   During the traffic stop the sharp eyed officer noticed the 27 year old attempting to conceal something. During the investigation into what that was a small quantity of drugs were seized and led to an arrest of the driver. A further search of the driver and vehicle has resulted in the seizure of meth, crack and cocaine, all in small quantities. The driver was charged and released with a future court date.

October 2 – 13, 2018 Incidents

Domestic Dispute

On the 12th of October, 2018 at approximately 8:30am police received a 911 hang up call from a north end residence. Police attended and discovered that a domestic dispute had taken place where the 42 year old wife was upset and caused damage inside the residence and also assaulted her spouse. She was arrested for mischief and assault and released with a future court date.

 

Impaired Drivers

On the 12th of October, 2018 at approximately 10:45pm police responded to a north end restaurant where a 22 year female was yelling and swearing at staff, and possibly under the influence of alcohol. She was located and arrested for Impaired Driving; she was escorted to the station where she provided to samples of her breath registering double the legal limit. She was released with a court date for impaired driving and driving over 80. Her vehicle was impounded for 7 days and also received a 90 day licence suspension.

Shortly thereafter on the 13th of October, 2018 at approximately 3am police on general patrol observed a vehicle travelling a high rate of speed on Stewart Blvd with its signal light activated. The vehicle was stopped, where the 35 year old male driver was arrested for Impaired Driving. He was escorted to the station and provided samples registering 3x the legal limit. He was also released with a court date for impaired and over 80, and also vehicle impounded for 45 days and licence suspension.
