December 25 – 28, 2020 News Release

Indecent Act

On December 28, 2020 at 3:25 PM a 56 year old male from Niagara Falls was arrested and charged with 1) Indecent Act 2) Mischief 3) Breach of Probation.  The accused had been inside the vestibule of Scotia Bank located at 7 King St W, Brockville, ON where he accosted the complainant asking questions about sexual orientation, asking for money, the accused then began fondling himself in front of the complainant committing an indecent act. This was reported to the police and the accused was arrested after police received a second call about the male blocking access to another ATM. The accused was held in custody for a show cause hearing.

Police Chaplain Makes Arrest

Our police Chaplain (who is also employed here as a special constable) was on a ride along with one of our members on the December 28th at 11:08 AM.  This is when the chaplain recognized a 19 year old male that was wanted for bail violations stemming from previous charges of obstructing police.  The male fled when police approached, but was captured by the rugby player turned chaplain.  The accused was also charged with being in possession of methamphetamine that was found on his person at the time of the arrest.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Robbery

On December 18th, 2020 at 1:44 PM the Brockville Police Service responded to a disturbance on Perth Street.  The witness observed a male smash out a window to a residence and contacted police.  That 28 year old male is located and charged with mischief.  Further information is received that this mischief incident is a result of this male being assaulted and robbed for a cell phone.  As a result a 35 year old male suspect is identified for the robbery.  That male is located on the 24th of December at 8:31 AM and attempts to flee police.  After a short foot pursuit the male is arrested and charged for the robbery.  Both parties were released from custody with future court dates.

Theft

The Brockville Police Service received a theft call on 25th December from the Shawarma Garden located on King Street West.  The incident had transpired at approximately 3:18 PM that day and involved the theft of a Cash Register Tablet/Monitor.  We are looking for the public’s assistance.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Brockville Police at 613-342-0127 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Dealership Break In

A 47 year old Nova Scotia man has been arrested and charged in relation to a break and enter to Brockville Hyundai on Stewart Blvd and will appear in court today for a bail hearing. 

Police were contacted on December 14, 2020 about a break in to the dealership. Items stolen from the business  included specialized diagnostic electronics and mechanics’ tools. 

Police investigation determined the same man was also responsible for a commercial theft at a vehicle service Centre in Cardinal.

The Brockville Police Service would like to thank the involved community partners for their diligent work and assistance in this matter. With their cooperation the accused person was identified and arrested in the Peel region on December 17, 2020.

December 20 – 21, 2020 News Release

Break and Enter

On December 21st, 2020 at 9:42 AM the Brockville Police Service responded to an unwanted person at a George Street residence.  A 44 year old male was arrested and charged with being unlawfully in a dwelling a failing to comply with a release order.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Domestic

On December 21st, 2020 at 12:41 PM the Brockville Police Service responded to a domestic dispute in the city’s south end.  A 24 year old female and a 30 year old female were arrested for breaching release orders.  Both were held in custody for bail hearings.

Domestic

On December 20th, 2020 at 11:50 AM the Brockville Police Service responded to a call for a domestic dispute in the center of the city. Officers located a 29 year old male who had minor injuries to his face.  As a result of the investigation a 29 year old female was arrested and charged with assault.  She was released from custody with a future court date.

Unlawfully in a dwelling

On December 20th, 2020 at 2:48 PM the Brockville Police Service responded to a complaint of a male trespassing at a Delhi St. residence.  The male had previously been removed from the residence, but returned.  He was arrested by officers for being unlawfully in a dwelling and released with a future court date.

Mischief

We are seeking the public’s assistance, on December 21st, 2020 at 1:50 am an unknown suspect threw a hammer the window of a residence on Stanley Crescent. If you have any information, please contact Cst. Dustin Lafontaine at 613-342-0127 ext. 6098 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

 

Presentation by MP Michael Barrett

Sergeant Borgford, A/Sgt. Eric Ruigrok, Cst. Ross McCullough, Cst. Dustin Gamble and Cst. Geoff Fearon were recognized today by Member of Parliament Michael Barrett for their life saving efforts.  Mr. Barrett presented the officers with a scroll at the Brockville Police Service.

On October 17th Eric Ruigrok, Ross McCullough, Dustin Gamble and Geoff Fearon responded to a call on the William Street overpass for a suicidal subject.  The officers arrived on scene and observed the 23 year old female sitting on the railing of the over pass with her legs hanging over the edge.  The officers began a dialogue with the female.  Dustin Gamble took over the negotiations as he had developed a rapport with her from previous encounters.  She was convinced to bring one leg back over the railing to safety and the rest of the officers moved in pulling her to safety.

On November 18th Shawn Borgford, Ross McCullough, Dustin Gamble and Geoff Fearon responded to another call for a suicidal male on the William Street overpass.  The police service had received several calls about a male straddling the railing on the overpass threatening suicide.  Ross McCullough was the first officer to arrive on scene and observed the 51 year old male straddling the railing.  An unknown citizen was trying to defuse the situation with the male, but left when police arrived.  McCullough began a conversation with the male and waited for the rest of the shift to arrive to assist.  The responding officers developed a plan.  When the officers were able to safely approach the male without risking any injury to him, they pulled him to safety.

Both subjects were transported to the Brockville General Hospital.  The officers would like to thank the unknown citizen who attempted to intervene in the second incident.  They would also like to thank their dispatchers who played a pivotal role in the incidents: Kendra Adair, Jeff Hepburn, Sophie Turner, Alicia Benson and Cst. Darlene Reilly.

December 14 – 15, 2020 News Release

Mental Health Act

On December 15th 8:32 AM officers responded to a downtown address for a female that was yelling, shouting and naked from the waist down.  When officers arrived the female charged at them, continuing to yell and scream.  She was apprehended under the mental health act and transported to the Brockville General Hospital for treatment.

Thefts

On December 15th at 4:56 PM a 60 year old female was stopped by staff at Canadian Tire for shoplifting.  The Brockville Police Service was contacted, attended and charged the female for theft.  She was released at the scene with a future court date.  The value of the merchandise was approximately $120.

On December 15th at 7:00 PM a 38 year old male was also stopped by staff at Canadian Tire for shoplifting $15 worth of merchandise.  Officers attended a second time and charged this male under the “Trespass to Property Act” and issued him a $55 fine.

Warrants/attempted disarming

On December 14th at 7:10 PM officers from the Brockville Police Service responded to a downtown residence for an unrelated medical call.  While at the call officers located a 42 year old female that had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for breaching a release order.  She was arrested at the scene and held in custody for a bail hearing.

After her bail hearing on December 15th, the female was to be transported to custody by prisoner transport.  While attempting to facilitate the escort officers were assaulted by the female.  She attempted to disarm one of the officers by grabbing his firearm.  She was secured and will be charged with disarming a peace officer.

Break and Enter

The Brockville Police Service is currently investigating a “break and enter” to a north end dealership.  Suspect(s) entered the Hyundai dealership between the hours of 10:00 – 11:00 PM on December 12th 2020 and removed a large quantity of tools.  The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information in regards to this occurrence is asked to contact Det. December 10 – 14, 2020 News Release

Break and Enter

On December 13th, 2020 at 10:11 AM officers responded to a Beley St. residence as the complainant was reporting that they discovered a male in their garage.  A 25 year old male was located in the area and arrested.  He has been charged with “break and enter” then released from custody with a future court date.

Theft

On the 10th of December 2020 at 10:25 PM officers located and arrested a 33 year old male for theft.  The male was identified as a suspect in two thefts at local convenience stores where he entered and removed a quantity of lottery tickets.  He will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.  

Mental Health Apprehensions

Ove the weekend period officers dealt with 7 different apprehensions under the mental health act.

Update to Shoplifting Arrest December 7th

A 50 year old London woman and a 14 year old female were arrested for theft at the Shopper’s Drug Mart on Parkedale Ave. on Monday December 7th at 12:40 PM.  Store employees recognized the 50 year old from previous theft complaints and contacted police.  The previous incidents resulted in the theft of more than $2000 worth of perfume. Both were arrested in the store. 

Both accused have been charged with theft and will appear in court at a later date.

“Police executed a search warrant on the seized vehicle used in Monday’s shoplifting occurrence and recovered approximately $13, 000 worth of suspected stolen merchandise. The recovered products range from electronics to cosmetics and health products.”

It is believed that the pair from London has been targeting communities along the 401 corridor.  The investigation is continuing…

December 8 – 9, 2020 News Release

Theft

On December 8th at 4:01 PM officers responded to Giant Tiger on Park Street for a theft complaint.  A 33 year old female was observed leaving the store with property not making any attempt to pay.  She was approached by staff asking her if she was going to pay for the item.  She refused and fled the area.  The accused was located by police and arrested for theft under $5000.  She was also charged with breaching a probation condition.  She will appear in court at a later date.

Domestic

On December 8th at 10:14 PM officers responded to a domestic dispute in the city’s north end.  As a result of attending a 29 year old female was arrested for breaching a release order.  She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Theft

Firearm Charges

A 29 year old Brockville resident has been charged with 1) careless storage of a firearm 2) unauthorized possession of a firearm 3) unauthorized possession of a weapon and 4) failing to comply with an undertaking. The Brockville police service began the investigation in November and the accused was arrested today.   A 12 gauge shotgun was seized from a vehicle in the downtown core.  The accused will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.

December 4 – 6, 2020 News Release

Officers were kept busy responding to 77 calls for service including 6 mental health apprehensions over the weekend.

Theft

On December 6th at 11:10 AM officers responded to a theft complaint from “The Score” on King Street West.  Staff reported that a male had stolen a coat and left in an unknown direction.  A 41 year old Quebec resident was later located with the coat on and arrested.  He was charged with theft and will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.

Bail Violations

On December 5th at 9:00 AM officers began a suspicious person’s investigation on Wall Street.  The complainant reported that a male had been hanging around his residence the previous night and had left some property in the area.  The male was identified by the complainant and police.  The male was on court ordered release conditions not to be near the residence.  The 39 year old male is now facing charges of failing to comply with a release order.  He has not been located at this time.

Mischief

On December 5th at 9:27 PM officers arrested a 49 year old male and arrested him for failing to comply with a release order for being out past his curfew.  The male was also wanted for breaking into mail boxes at a King Street apartment building.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

Domestic

On December 4th at 7:51 AM officers responded to a domestic dispute in the center of the city.  A 32 year old female was charged with assault with a weapon and a 40 year old male was charged with breaching a release order.  The two parties were in a heated argument that lead to the female striking the male with a stick and threatening him with a knife.  The male was arrested for violating his release order by not residing at his proper address.  She was released from custody with a future court date and he was held in for a bail hearing.

December 2 – 3, 2020 News Release

Collision leads to Impaired Driving Charges

A 32 year old Brockville area woman is facing impaired driving charges in relation to a motor vehicle collision early last evening on Ormond Street near the intersection of Bramshot Avenue.

Brockville Police, Fire and Leeds Grenville EMS were called to the intersection at approximately 6:30 pm last evening after receiving several calls. It was learned that one of the vehicles travelling southbound on Ormond Street had crossed over into the northbound lanes and struck the northbound vehicle head-on.

Several young passengers in the woman’s vehicle were checked and were uninjured. The male driver of the other vehicle however was taken to Brockville General Hospital by ambulance and treated for injuries suffered in the collision.

Officers at the scene found the woman to be under the influence of alcohol and as a result, placed her under arrest for impaired driving. She was conveyed to Brockville Police Headquarters and provided breath samples over the legal limit. She was released from custody with a court date and served with an automatic 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS).
