Arrest in Domestic Incident

A 35 year old Brockville man is scheduled to appear in bail court today after police were notified of a domestic dispute which had taken place earlier in the day at a residence in central Brockville.

While interviewing the female victim, investigators also learned of a previous domestic assault which had occurred on Monday at the couple’s residence. At the time of both incidents the male was currently serving a Community Sentence Order for previous offences.

Shortly after 4:30 pm the 35 year old man was located and placed under arrest in relation to the domestic incidents. He is now facing charges of 2 counts of assault, forcible confinement and breach of his conditional sentence order. The victim is in good physical condition and did not require medical attention.

Stolen Bicycle

The Brockville Police are seeking the public’s assistance with regards to a break and enter investigation reported yesterday.

Officers attended to a residence in the area of Toniata School where a shed was broken into and a number of items taken including a racing bicycle.

Found Husky

The Brockville Police are trying to locate the owner of a black and white husky found early last evening in the John and Brock Street area.

Shortly after 7pm last evening from an area resident reporting they had found the dog in the area. The husky had no tags, and was wearing a leather collar. Officers canvassed the neighbourhood knocking on doors but were unable to locate the dog’s owner.

The dog was taken to Meowtown for its safety and kept there. They may be contacted at 613-342-7816

November 30 – December 1, 2020 News Release

Man facing Assault Charges

A 31 year old Brockville area man is facing several charges after officers in the area on an unrelated matter,  witnessed a disturbance yesterday afternoon at a north end building.

At approximately 2pm yesterday afternoon two Brockville Police detectives were just returning to their vehicle when they witnessed a victim being chased by the 31 year old man and being knocked to the ground. With the victim on the ground the assault continued briefly until officers were able to intervene and make the arrest.

Upon searching the man, police also found a wooden club concealed in his clothing. He was taken into custody and will be appearing in bail court today facing charges of assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, using a disguise, and break and enter with intent to commit an offence.

 

 

November 27 – 29, 2020 News Release

Over the weekend the Brockville Police Service responded to 97 calls for service which included several calls to assist with traffic as a result of the popularity of the Christmas parade.

Mental Health Apprehensions

From Friday morning until late Saturday afternoon officers conveyed 4 individuals to the Brockville General Hospital after apprehending them in crisis under the Mental Health Act.

The calls continue a recent trend of increase calls for service to the police of persons suffering from mental health and addictions issues in our community.

The Brockville Police would like to remind area residents they can call Brockville General Hospital Mental Health Crisis Line at 613-345-4600 or 1-866-281-2911 at any time (24 hours/7days a week) if in crisis. They may also contact Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health at 613-342-2262 during regular business hours Monday to Friday for assistance. 

November 27, 2020 News Release

Assault with a Weapon

At 3:00 AM on November 27th, 2020 Brockville Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the city’s north end.  The investigation led the arrest of a 29 year old female for assault with a weapon and uttering threats.  The 29 year old female stabbed her common law partner after a heated dispute.  The injury was to his arm and is non-life threatening.  She has been held in custody for a bail hearing.

The Brockville Police Service has charged a 22 year old male with sexual assault after an interaction with a female resident he met while using online social media dating applications.

The Brockville Police Service encourages the public to exercise caution when meeting in person with people first connected with through social media applications.

November 25 – 26, 2020 News Release

Weapons

On November 25th, 2020at 3:30 PM the Brockville Police Service received a report of a 25 year old male that had brandished a knife and made threats towards the complainant after a dispute.  The male fled the area after the call and was later located at his residence.  The male continued the threatening behaviour towards police and threatened self-harm.  The male was contained in his residence and through successful negotiations surrendered to officers at the scene.  The male has been charged with various weapon offences and uttering threats.  He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Disturbance

On November 25th, 2020 at 12:12 PM Brockville Police responded to a disturbance at a William Street residence.  A 35 year old female was arrested for failing to comply with a release order and possession of fentanyl.  She was breaching a condition of release by communicating with a male that she was on conditions not to communicate with.  She will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Missing Person Located

Bryan Lewis who was reported missing on November 12th has been located safe in another province.  Thank you for all the assistance provided in this missing person’s incident. 

 

November 21 – 22, 2020 News Release

Theft

On November 22, 2020 at 9:34 AM the Brockville Police responded to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in regards to a male that was witnessed taking envelopes from the church’s collection plate.  Officers located and arrested a 24 year old male for theft.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

Theft

On November 16, 2020 10:27 PM the Brockville Police received a complaint about a male that had entered a convenience store on William St.  The male asked for a quantity of lottery tickets. When the clerk produced the tickets the male fled without paying for them.  He was identified through the use of security footage.  On November 22nd at 10:00 AM the 31 year old male was located by officers on Abbott St. and arrested without incident.  He will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charge.

Impaired

On November 21st at 2:45 AM the Brockville Police Service responded to MacDonald’s Restaurant on Parkedale Avenue as a driver had driven her vehicle onto the flower beds and was now stuck.  The 51 year old female driver was arrested at the scene for operation while impaired and operate a conveyance with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol.  She will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.  Her vehicle was impounded for 7 days and her driver’s licence was automatically suspended for 90 days.

Missing Diver

On November 21st 2020 at 2:32 PM police received a call of a missing diver from Centeen Park. A 61 year old male did not return from his dive excursion as planned and the complainant called 911.  The Ottawa resident was an experienced diver and had been to Brockville several times to dive in the past.  

The missing male was located on the 22nd of November in the area of Ogdensburg New York.  The victim was turned over to Canadian authorities for post mortem examination.  At the request of the family the name of the deceased is being withheld.

November 18 – 20, 2020 News Release

Mental Health Act

On November 18th, 2020 at 4:33 PM officers from C-platoon pulled a suicidal male to safety from the William Street overpass.  The 51 year old male place a call to the complainant stating that they would be the last person to ever hear from him and he was walking to the nearest bridge to end his life.  The male was located on the overpass with half his body hanging over the railing.  While he was distracted by the first two responding officers, two other officers approached from behind and pulled him to safety.  The male was then brought to the Brockville General Hospital for an assessment.  It was through Cst. Gamble, Cst. Fearon, Cst. McCullough and Sgt. Borgford’s actions that prevented this incident from ending tragically. 

Several of these officers were involved in dealing with a suicidal female at the same location approximately one month ago.

Over the 48 hour period from November 18-20, officers dealt with 4 mental health apprehensions.

November 17 – 18, 2020 News Release

Warrants

On November 17th at 9:45 AM, an officer on routine patrol spotted 28 year old male in the downtown core that was wanted on a warrant for failing to attend court.  The male was arrested without incident and provided with a new court date.

On November 17th at 12:30 PM officers located a 40 year old male that was wanted on several warrants for his arrest.  The male was located on James Street West and arrested without incident.  The male had been previously charged with uttering threats and bail violations.  A warrant was issued for his arrest when the male failed to attend to attend for his court date.  He was held in custody for his bail hearing that will occur on the 18th of November.

Search Warrant/Drugs

A joint forces operation between the Ontario Provincial Police and the Brockville Police resulted in the arrest of a 21 year old male and a 19 year old female for being in possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine for the purposes of trafficking.  Shortly before 6 PM on November 17th members of Brockville Police Service’s Emergency Response Team executed the search warrant under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act at a Pearl Street West residence.  The ensuing search led to the discovery of a quantity of nearly $8000 in street value of illicit drugs. 

Anthony Mellon of Brockville was held in custody and has been charged with two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, two counts of breaching a probation order and one count of violating his weapons prohibition.

The 19 year old female will appear in court at a later date to answer to her two charges of being in possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

November 12 – 14, 2020 News Release

Suspicious Vehicle

November 12th, at 8:30 AM

The Brockville Police Service is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying a suspicious vehicle and driver.  On Friday morning between 8:30 – 8:50 AM on Pearl Street near Hamilton Street a 10 year old boy was approached by a suspicious male in a vehicle.  The driver began a conversation with the youth stating that he had been asked to pick him up.  The youth then ran to his school and did not have any further contact with the suspect.  The incident was reported to police the following day.

The vehicle is described as a black sedan with a scratch on the right front wheel well and a “Monster” energy drink decal on the front windshield. 

The driver is described as a white male 20-30 years of age, wearing a white toque, brown coat, black hoodie, blue jeans and had a moustache.

Assault

November 14, 2020 at 3:00 PM officers responded to a residence in the center of the city in response to an assault complaint.  A 20 year old male as arrested for assault as a result of the investigation.  The assault was on another family member.  He was released from custody with a future court date.

Impaired

On November 14th at 5:50 PM officers conducted a traffic stop on Stewart Blvd.  The 49 year old driver was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a conveyance and operate a conveyance with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol.  His vehicle was impounded for 7 days and his licence was automatically suspended for 90 days.
