Prescription Fraud

A 22 year old Ottawa man is facing fraud charges in relation after an alert local pharmacist contact police when they noticed a suspicious prescription.

Shortly after 2:00 pm yesterday,  Brockville Police were called to a north end pharmacy after they received a prescription from an Ottawa doctors office which looked suspicious. Some background checks revealed the prescription to be fraudulent. When the man returned to pick up his prescription last evening at approximately 8:30 pm police were contacted and located the man and placed him under arrest in relation to the incident.

Attempted Vehicle Purchase

A 25 year old Kitchener area woman has been identified as the person responsible for attempting to purchase a new vehicle from a local dealership Wednesday evening.

Officers had attended and arrested the woman Wednesday after an alert employee at the dealership became suspicious about the woman’s identification and contacted police. Officers attended and arrested the woman who had several pieces of identification on her in different names. She was conveyed to the Brockville Police headquarters, where detectives and forensic identifications officer were positively able to identify the woman.

The woman is now facing charges of 2 counts each of possessing another persons personal information. personation with intent, and uttering a forged document. She is also facing an additional charge of fraud over $5000.

 

Charges in Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

A 17 year old youth is facing two charges of failing to yield under the Highway Traffic Act in relation to the fatal motor vehicle collision last month at the intersection of King Street West and Clarissa Street.

Officers were called to the intersection at approximately 11:30 am October 10th after Brockville Police had received several 911 calls of a serious motor vehicle collision. After an extensive investigation involving the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators, and the Brockville Police Services detectives, forensic identification, and patrol officers charges were laid yesterday.

 

 

November 11 – 12, 2020 News Release

False Identification leads to arrest

An alert staff member at a local car dealership contacted police when they noticed issues with a female’s identification as she attempted to purchase a new vehicle at the dealership.

At approximately 7:20 pm last evening officers responded to a local car dealership where staff at the dealership had almost completed the necessary paperwork for the purchase of a new vehicle for a female customer. While preparing the necessary documents, problems were noticed with the identification provided by the customer, and police were notified and attended. The woman was arrested for Fraud and found to be in possession of identification of several persons.

Detectives are continuing their investigation this morning.   

 

 

November 10 – 11, 2020 News Release

Warrants

A 20 year old Brockville area man was arrested by Leeds OPP for an outstanding warrant and turned over to Brockville Police yesterday afternoon. A warrant had been issued for his arrest in early August when the man failed to comply with his release conditions by contacting his bail supervision program.

He is now facing additional charges for failing to comply with his release order.

 

Calls regarding homeless persons

Officers responded to three calls for service regarding homeless persons overnight Tuesday and Wednesday

On Tuesday morning just prior to 7am Brockville Police responded to the Dog Park on Broadway Avenue when a caller reported a male and female were found sleeping inside the shed at the park. Officers attended and located the individuals inside the shed, and made several calls on their behalf before the pair left the dog park. There was minor damage to the shed.

At 2:30pm Tuesday police were contacted about a female in the Front Ave area walking up to people and houses in the area asking for money. The woman was described as having long brown hair, believed to be in her late 20’s and carrying bags with her. Officers attended to the area but were unable to locate the woman.

Later Tuesday evening at approximately 10:30pm  officers were contacted and asked to check on a female who the caller believed had spent several nights on a park bench in the Jefferson Drive area. The woman had a cart with her belongings with her was located by officers, in good physical health and did not wish any further assistance from the police.

 

November 9 – 10, 2020 News Release

Home owner assaulted

An 18 year old Brockville man is facing charges of unlawfully in a dwelling house and assault after incident at a residence in the area of Victoria Park last evening.

Officers were called to the Brockville General Hospital where the victim was being treated for minor injuries he had suffered during the attack. The victim reported he was inside his residence at approximately 8:00pm when he heard a knock at the door. When he answered the door he was greeted by two persons and a confrontation took place in the doorway resulting in the injuries.

Several hours later, Brockville Police were able to locate the 18 year old man and place him under arrest in relation to this incident.

Breach of Bail Conditions

A 49 year old Brockville man will appear for a bail hearing today facing charges of breaching his release orders.

While on patrol in the downtown corridor at 4:20 am this morning, officers spotted the man known to them to be on release conditions and confirmed he was subject to a curfew that he shall remain inside his residence between the hours of 9pm to 6am.

As a result he was placed under arrest for breaching his conditions and held in custody for a bail hearing.  

November 6 – 9, 2020 News Release

Riding without bike light leads to arrest

A 46 year old Brockville man will appear in court for a bail hearing later today after being spotted by police at 10:30 Friday without a bicycle light. As officers tried to stop the cyclist in the area of Central Avenue and Ormond Streets, the man continued to ride his bike in an attempt to evade police. He was eventually stopped a short distance later.

The male who was known to the officers had outstanding warrants and he was in breach of his release order. The man was arrested for those warrants after being stopped and a search also found him to be in possession of a quantity of drugs. He is now facing additional charges of breaching his release order and possession of a substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Legion break-in

Early Saturday morning Brockville Police responded to an alarm at the Royal Canadian Legion on Park St and learned entry had been gained to the building. At approximately 2:30 am officers responded to an activated alarm in the building and found the building had been entered and minor damage caused to the interior of the building.

Disturbance leads to breach and drug charges

An early morning disturbance in downtown Brockville led to charges of breaching a release order and possession of a substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act against a 44 your old Brockville man.

Officers were called to King Street West at approximately 5:30 am Wednesday Morning on reports of the man yelling and screaming and causing a disturbance. When officers arrived they learned he was breaching his release order by being out of his residence after his curfew and he was placed under arrest. A search of the man incident to his arrest found him to be in possession of a small amount of drugs. He was conveyed to the Brockville Police Service and released sometime later with a court date on his new charges.

Theft charges

A 33 year old Brockville woman is facing theft charges after she was spotted by Brockville Police early Monday wearing clothing reported stolen November 3rd.

On the 3rd of November police responded to a theft complaint from a business in the downtown area. A description of the suspect and clothing were obtained by officers during the initial incident. Officers spotted the woman walking in the downtown area at approximatley 2:30 Monday morning wearing the clothing reported stolen. As a result she was placed under arrest for the theft and later released with a furture court date.

November 5 – 6, 2020 News Release

Vehicles entered

A number of residents in Brockville’s north end woke up yesterday morning to discover their vehicles had been entered overnight. Brockville Police received several reports from car owners who had entered their vehicles Thursday to find someone had been in their car and rummaged through its contents looking for money and valuables to take.

Brockville Police are reminding car owners to lock their vehicles while leaving them unattended and where possible to park in well lit areas. Residents are  asked to report suspicious activity around vehicles.

 

Man in wheelchair struck

A 47 year old Brockville man in a wheelchair suffered only minor injuries early yesterday afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle in the intersection of Stewart Blvd and Front Ave.

Just after 12pm Brockville Police and Leeds and Grenville EMS attended to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection. Paramedics transported the man to Brockville General Hospital for assessment where he was treated and later released. The collision is still under investigation.

November 3 – 5, 2020 News Release

Collision leads to charges of Impaired Driving

A 38 year old area woman is facing charges of impaired driving following a single motor vehicle collision early Tuesday evening.

Officers responded to a motor vehicle collision just before 6pm near the intersection of Waverly Drive and North Augusta Road where the driver failed to negotiate the turn just prior to the intersection. When they arrived officers detected alcohol on the driver’s breath and as a result she was arrested for impaired driving and conveyed to the Brockville Police Service where the breathalyzer was administered. As a result the young woman was charged with impaired driving and driving with over the legal limit of alcohol and released with a future court date.

Probation breach leads to drug charges

A 36 year old Brockville man is facing additional drug charges after being arrested early yesterday afternoon in the downtown area for an outstanding warrant for breaching his probation and failing to attend court.

Brockville Police spotted the man walking in the downtown area and placed him under arrest  on the strength of the warrant. Upon searching him incident to arrest, officers located weapons and drugs on the man. He will be appearing later today in court for a bail hearing.

Pedestrian suffers minor injuries

A Brockville woman suffered minor injuries early yesterday evening after she was struck crossing the intersection at Pearl and William Streets.

Just after 6pm officers responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision at the intersection. Leeds and Grenville EMS also attended to the scene and the woman was transported to Brockville General Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

The collision is still under investigation.

Scams Active in the Brockville area

A couple of familiar scams are again active in the Brockville area. Early yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received a call from an area resident reporting a fraudulent rental ad was placed on an online site. When the caller noticed the residence on the website for rent she attended to the address to only to learn the house had already been sold and a new family was moving in. Fortunately, the caller did not place any money down as a deposit and was not out any money.

Earlier in the week, police received several phone calls from residents in the Reynolds Drive area of door to door sales persons identifying themselves as employees of a telecommunications company. According to some callers, the sales person asked to come inside the residence to look at their telecommunications equipment. Area residents are reminded not to let sales persons into their residents, door to door sales persons in Brockville are required to notify the City of Brockville of their presence, and most legitimate sales persons will carry identification with them from the company.

Disturbance

October 27, 2020 at 1:45 – The Brockville Police Service attended the Brockville General Hospital for a 25 year old female that was causing a disturbance.  The female was refusing to leave the hospital.  When officers attended she continued to yell, scream and cause a disruption at the hospital.  She was arrested and removed from the property.  She has been charged with causing a disturbance and will appear in court at a later date.

Impaired

October 27, 2020 at 5:04 PM – A 28 year old female has been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample.  The Brockville Police Service received reports about the driver that was coming into town on Highway 401 and exiting onto Stewart Blvd.  The vehicle was stopped and officers detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage on her breath.  A demand was made for the driver to provide a sample of her breath to which she refused.   She has been charged, vehicle impounded and licence suspended.

Drugs

October 26, 2020 at 9:37 AM – A 31 year old female has been charged with being in possession of methamphetamine and cocaine after a complaint of a female sleeping in her vehicle on William Street.  Officers attended the arear to check on her well-being and located the drugs.  She was charged and released at the scene.

Suspicious vehicle

October 26, 2020 at 10:24 PM – A 32 year old female has been charged with careless storage of ammunition, possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis and having an open container of liquor.  The vehicle was stopped in the area of Millwood Avenue where officers observed the open container of alcohol, ammunition and cannabis.  She was arrested, charged for the offences and will appear in court at a later date.

Chemical Spill

October 28, 2020 – The Brockville Fire Department is currently on Scene at 3M 1175 California Avenue for a chemical spill.  California Avenue remains closed at this time while Brockville Fire is dealing with the spill.  Employees have been evacuated and the spill has been contained to one room.  A hazmat team from Ottawa Fire is on scene to deal with the spill.

Please avoid the area while crews attend to this emergency.

October 23, 2020 at 5:06 PM – A 23 year old female was arrested by the OPP in Prescott for a probation warrant that our service held.  She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Motor vehicle collision/sudden death investigation

October 23, 2020 at 4:55 PM – On Friday evening the Brockville Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on the east bound on ramp for Highway 401 at Stewart Blvd.  An elderly female was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The incident is not considered suspicious, but remains under investigation.  The vehicle drove over the embankment at the rear of Food Basics onto the highway.  The name of the deceased will not be released.

Theft

October 24, 2020 at 1:25 AM – K-9 makes his arrest.  Early Saturday morning the Brockville Police service was contacted in regards to a theft in progress.  The caller stated that a male was going through vehicles in the area of Pearl St. West and Maple Street.  K-9 Diesel tracked the suspect to a backyard on Pearl St. where the 21 year old male was located and arrested.  Officers located a large knife at the scene of the arrest.  The male was charged with theft, weapons offences and trespass by night.  He will appear in court at a later date.

Domestic/warrants

October 25, 2020 at 12:08 AM – Officers responded to a domestic dispute in the city’s north end on Sunday morning.  When officer arrived at the residence they located a 38 year old male who was in the residence with his spouse.  The male was arrested on warrants for mischief that originated in 2019 at the Bull’s Eye restaurant.  The male had broken a window and was charged with mischief at that time.  When the male failed to show up for subsequent court appearances a warrant was issued.  He will appear in court at later date to answer to the charges.

Impaired/motor vehicle collision

October 25, 2020 at 1:40 AM – A 48 year old female was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance after she crashed her vehicle travelling west bound on Brock St. She mounted the north sidewalk and struck a van parked in a driveway launching it into the neighbour’s yard. This impact deflected her back across the roadway to the south side of brock where she again left the roadway and severed the hydro pole at its base before coming to rest on the lawn of a residence on Brock Street.  She has been charged with impaired operation and will appear in court at a later date.

Impaired/motor vehicle collision

October 25, 2020 at 5:18 AM – A 30 year old female has been arrested and charged with impaired operation and drive with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol after being involved in an accident on Sunday morning.  Officers responded to a report of an accident on Schofield Avenue as the vehicle she was operating struck a parked vehicle causing the air bags to deploy.  She will appear in court at a later date.

Bail violations

October 25, 2020 at 1:10 PM – officers were called to a residence in the center of the city in response to a domestic incident.  A 49 year old male was arrested at the scene for breaching a bail condition for being at the residence.  The male was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Officer injury

October 25, 2020 at 10:13 PM – officers attended a residence at the Balmoral apartments to serve documents on a subject.  As the officers arrived they began speaking with a 40 year old resident of the apartment when his dog exited and latched on to an officer.  The officer was treated at the Brockville General Hospital and later released.

Domestic Assault

October 22, 2020 at 1:37 PM – The Brockville Police Service responded to a call for service in the city’s south end in relation to a domestic occurrence.  A 20 year old female was arrested for assaulting her 24 year old male common law spouse with her cell phone.  She was arrested without incident and will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Drugs/warrants

October 22, 2020 at 9:22 PM – Officers on routine patrol located a 44 year old male on George Street.  The male had a warrant for his arrest stemming from an incident on October 15th where he had breached his bail conditions.  He was arrested for the warrant and officers located a small quantity of methamphetamine on his person.  He is now facing an additional charge of being in possession of a controlled substance.  He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Mischief

October 23, 2020 at 1:30 AM – An officer on general patrol spotted a 36 year old male that was wanted in relation to a mischief complaint that occurred on the 21st of October at 2:20 PM.  The male had been observed on video damaging a washing machine at a Laundromat.  When he was arrested on the 23rd officers located a small quantity of methamphetamine as well as stolen credit cards and identity documents belonging to another person.  He will appear in court at a later date charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen credit cards, possession of identity documents as well as mischief.

Domestic Assault

October 21, 2020 at 12:50 AM – The Brockville Police responded to a domestic incident in the city’s south end on Wednesday.  Officers received a report from a 45 year old female that she had been assaulted by her 54 year old male partner.  Officers attended the address and arrested the male for assault.  The male also had a warrant for his arrest for a previous incident of breaching a bail condition.  The injuries were minor in nature and the male was held in custody for a bail hearing.
