November 19 – 20, 2015 Incidents

Motor Vehicle Collision

On November 19th at 8:45 am., Brockville Police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Park Street involving a pedestrian.

The driver, a local 77 year old female, struck a 70 year old male who was crossing the street with the right of way.  The female was charged with failing to yield for a pedestrian.

The male was taken to hospital for treatment, Police have no update on the extent of his injuries.

 

Domestic Dispute

On November 19th at 8:32 am., Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute at one of our high schools.

Police arrested a 17 year old male for assaulting his 17 year old girlfriend.  The young lady did not require medical attention, suffering no injuries.

The male teen was charged with assault and released with a future court date.

 

Theft

On November 19th at 12:29 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a theft complaint.

The female suspect had fled the store prior to Police arriving on the scene.  Police began searching the area and found the female waiting on a cab.  She was arrested for theft as well as breaching a recognizance she had been placed on for many similar type offences.

Due to the numerous charges against her and the fact that she had already been released in the past to no avail, she was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Theft

On November 19th at 3:43 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a theft complaint.

A local, 47 year old male, well known to Police, had stolen merchandise.  The subject was arrested for the theft and was also found to be on conditions of another release document for unrelated offences. He was charged with breaching his conditions as well as a current probation order.

He was later released from custody on conditions with a future court date.

 

Robbery

On November 19th at 8:42 pm., Brockville Police responded to a robbery complaint in Victoria Park.

A local, 43 year old male, told Police he had been jumped by two males who pushed him to the ground and took his back pack.  Clothing, a wallet with various cards and a small amount of cash was taken.  The victim did not suffer any injuries.

One of the suspects is described as six feet tall with curly hair in a pony tail, wearing a burgandy coloured jacket.  The second male was about the same height with short black hair, wearing a grey jacket with black trim.  Both parties were last observed running north bound on Park Street.

Public Intoxication

On November 20th at 12:49 am., a cab driver showed up at the station with a male party passed out in his vehicle.

The male was heavily intoxicated and incoherent.  The local 29 year old was arrested for public intoxication and placed in cells for his own protection.

He was released with a fine when sober.

 

 

November 16, 2015

Warrant

On November 16th at 3:40 pm., Brockville Police attended offices at 100 Strowger Blvd. to check on a male party that tenants had concerns about.

Police located and spoke to a 58 year old male, originally from the Kingston area but recently staying at a local motel.

The male was wanted on warrants for arson related charges out of Kingston.  That Police Service was contacted and attended Brockville to return him to their area.

 

 

November 10 – 13, 2015 Incidents

Suspicious Male

On November 10th at 7:15 pm., Brockville Police took a complaint of a strange male near Butterfield Park.

Children playing in the park reported a man in an older grey sedan with tinted windows, yelling at them, asking if they were alone.  The male drove off after making the comments and no description was given.

 

Bail Violation 

On November 10th at 8:46 pm., Brockville Police attended a residence in the south end of the city for a bail violation complaint.

The mother of a 13 year old female was reporting to Police that her daughter was breaching a court ordered curfew.  Police attended an address she was known to frequent and located her. She was arrested and charged with breaching her bail conditions and held in custody to attend bail court the following day.

 

Warrant

On November 11th at 1:28 am., Brockville Police observed a 39 year old male who was wanted on a warrant from another Police agency.

Officers arrested the male on Pearl Street West and he was later released to the service holding the warrant.

 

Family Dispute

On November 13th at 11:30 am., Brockville Police responded to a family dispute at a south end residence.

A local, 19 year old male, was having a dispute with his mother. He started yelling at her, throwing things around inside and outside the house. As a result, her vehicle was damaged.  Police located the male nearby and he was arrested and charged for the mischief.

The main concern was his mental well being and for that reason, he was taken to hospital to be seen my medical staff.

 

Theft

On November 13th at 1:28 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a theft complaint.

A local, 46 year old male, had attempted to steal various items. He was also on Probation at the time.  Police arrested the male for theft and breaching his probation order. He was released at the scene with a future court date.

 

November 1 – 6, 2015 Incidents

Drug Offences

On November 1st, Brockville Police, in their media release, spoke of a 51 year old male from the Montreal area, who was charged with having cocaine on his person and in his vehicle.

With this information, the Brockville Police Intelligence Office and Grenville OPP Drug Enforcement Unit, executed a search warrant on the subject’s motel room in Johnstown on November 3rd.

As a result, a larger quantity of cocaine, crack cocaine and illegal cigarettes were seized. The street value of the drugs is estimated at over $6000.00

The 51 year old is in custody and appeared in bail court on Tuesday.

 

Dispute

On November 3rd, at 9:22 am., Brockville Police responded to the King Street West area to deal with an argument between two males. One of the males would not listen to reason and continued to cause a scene.

The local, 27 year old, was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace. Police had mental health workers attend the station to check on his well being prior to be released from custody.

 

Theft

On November 3rd, at 1:45 pm., Brockville Police responded to a north end box store for a theft complaint.

The male and female responsible for the theft had fled the area. Police located the Napanee couple and they were arrested for theft. The female was already facing charges for theft, breaching her probation and conditions of her court issued release document.

The 43 year old male and the 45 year old female were arrested and charged with the theft and issued a future court date.

The Kingston Police Service attended Brockville later and took custody of the two as they had warrants for them in their area as well.

 

Domestic Dispute

On November 3rd at 9:26 pm., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute on King Street East.

A local, 21 year old male, attended his ex-girlfriend’s residence and forced his way into her apartment. The male assaulted and choked her during the confrontation. He had fled on foot prior to Police arrival.

The 24 year old female suffered minor injuries but did not receive medical attention.

Later, Police located, arrested and charged the male with assault, choking and breaching his probation. He was held for a bail hearing.

 

Domestic Dispute

On November 4th at 3:34 pm., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in the center of the city.

A 33 year old male, from the Gananoque area attended his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and broke in. Once inside, he assaulted the 22 year old female, held her against her will and would not leave.

The accused finally left on foot and was located by Police in the area. He was arrested and charged with break and enter, assault and forcible confinement as well as breaching his probation order.

The victim suffered minor injuries.

During the evening, while in Police custody, the male was observed trying to tie clothing around his neck. Officers attended the cells to remove the items and the male became extremely confrontational. Police deployed their conductive energy weapon (taser), and the male was placed under physical control.

An Ambulance was called to the Police station to check on his well being but the male required no medical attention.

He was held for a bail hearing the following day.

 

Theft from Vehicles

On the evening of November 4th and early morning hours of the 5th, Brockville Police received several dozen calls of vehicles being broken into overnight.

All the incidents took place in the south/west end of the city. A large array of items were stolen. Some of these items have been recovered by Police.

Around noon on the 5th, Police received a call from a local business where they felt a credit card purchase was possibly fraudulent. The female they were dealing with in the store fled on foot.

Police recognized the card holder name belonging to one of the victims of the vehicle thefts. Officers flooded the area and located the local, 29 year old, hiding behind an apartment building near the area.

She was arrested and charged with nine counts of fraud, attempt fraud, four counts of possession of stolen property and possibly more as the investigation continues. Police encourage other victims to contact Police.

The female was held for a bail hearing later today and other possible suspects are being sought.

Police have begun the process of returning property to rightful owners.

 

Theft

On November 5th at 6:00 pm., Brockville Police attended one of the box stores on Parkedale Avenue for a theft complaint.

A local 30 year old female was arrested and charged with shoplifting from the store. The dollar value of the items taken was over $1000.00

She was also awaiting court for similar behaviour and was on release conditions which she was violating. The party will appear in bail court later.

 

Public Intoxication

On November 6th at 3:21 am., Brockville Police located a female walking down the middle of the street in the center of town.

When speaking with her, she was found to be in a heavily intoxicated state. The local, 20 year old, was arrested and charged for public intoxication as Police were concerned for her safety. She faces a fine when sober and ready to go home.

Phone Scam

The Brockville Police Service continues to receive complaints from citizens in regards to threatening phone calls from the Canada Revenue Agency. The phone calls threaten time in jail if monies owed are not paid back.

Recently, some of the numbers appearing on people’s phones are showing as a local call.  This scam has been taking place for a while now in our city.  We encourage people not to act on these requests for money. Contact the Canada Revenue Agency directly, speak to a relative or family friend to seek advice but do not forward funds.

October 30 – November 1, 2015 Incidents

Robbery

On October 30th at 3:39 pm., Brockville Police responded to a robbery on Fairknowe Drive.

A local, 61 year old female, was in the process of collecting rent for a nearby apartment building. An unknown male approached, ripped her purse from her shoulder and fled the area. The female was not injured during the incident.

Brockville Police K-9 Unit attended the scene with other officers searching the area. The suspect could not be located although articles of clothing he was wearing were found discarded.

The incident is still under investigation.

 

Mischief

On October 30th at 9:57 pm., unknown parties attended the Brockville Police Service and threw a rock at one of the front windows, breaking it in the process. They then broke flower pots at the front of the building and fled.

Officers were on general patrol at the time and none inside the facility. A track involving K-9 turned up no suspects.

The incident is still under investigation. Dispatchers within the building were unharmed.

 

Domestic Dispute

On October 31st at 12:12 am., Brockville Police attended a south end residence for a domestic dispute.

Officers had attended the residence earlier in the evening and dealt with an intoxicated male who agreed to leave for the evening. He returned. Police arrested the local, 47 year old male, to prevent a further breach of the peace.

He was released unconditionally when sober.

 

Mischief

On October 31st at 1:52 am., Brockville Police attended the Brockville Yacht Club to check on three males located around the boats.

Damage was done to two boats and the men were in possession of stolen items from same. The three local males, 18, 18 and 19 years of age, face charges of mischief and possession of stolen property.

They were released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Unwanted Person

On October 31st at 2:36 am., Brockville Police attended a south end residence for an unwanted person.

Police located a local, intoxicated, 51 year old male, who was trying to enter a residence that was not his.

He was arrested and charged with public intoxication. A fine was issued when sober and he was released.

 

Trespass to Property

On October 31st at 5:00 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment complex to assist paramedics with an unresponsive male.

The local, 52 year old, was awake on Officer’s arrival but was intoxicated and refusing to leave the area when directed.

He was arrested under the Trespass to Property Act, fined and later released.

 

Drug Offences

On October 31st at 8:38 pm., Brockville Police stopped a vehicle for speeding on a north end street.

The 51 year old, male driver, was found to be in possession of a large quantity of crack cocaine and hash. Cash and digital scales were also confiscated.

The Quebec resident was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in a narcotic.

The investigation is ongoing and the subject will make an appearance in bail court.

 

Breaching Conditions

On October 31st at 8:45 pm., Brockville Police came across a male party acting strange on Court House Avenue.

The local, 28 year old, was spoken to by Police and an odour of alcohol was noted on his breath.

The man was on release conditions that included no alcohol and was also found to be breaching two probation orders. He initially ran from Police but fell down, was helped to his feet and arrested for the offences. When sober, he was released with a future court date.

 

Breach of the Peace

On November 1st at 1:36 am., Brockville Police attended the King Street East area to check out a male that was interfering with folks trying to get into cabs.

The local, 20 year old, would not listen to reason and was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace. Bar patrons were then able to get home and the male was given his own ride by Police to the station.

He was released later the same day with no charges.

 

Possession of a Dangerous Weapon

On November 1st at 1:13 pm., Brockville Police responded to a complaint of an upset male in the King Street West area, possibly in possession of a knife.

Police located the male and discovered another family member had already taken the knife from the subject. The male was upset due to recent family issues that were unresolved. The knife was never used to threaten anyone in the incident. The local, intoxicated, 25 year old, was arrested and charged with weapons dangerous to the public and carrying a concealed weapon. He was released when sober and given a future court date.

 

Mischief

On November 1st at 3:47 pm., Brockville Police attended an apartment complex in the center of the city for a mischief complaint.

A local, 24 year old male, attended the apartment of his ex-girlfriend’s to remove his property from a storage unit in the building. While leaving the building with his property, a window was kicked out of the entry door. Police have charged the man with mischief and issued him a future court date.

Break and Enter

On October 29th at 9:35 pm., Brockville Police responded to a break-in at the Buell Street Bistro.

A rear window had been smashed out and unknown person(s) removed items that they could reach through the window. Several bottles of alcohol are missing.

Crime Prevention Week November 1-7 2015: Community Safety and Well-Being – A Shared Commitment in Ontario

The Brockville Police Service is proud to have a strong partnership with the business community in keeping Brockville a Safe Community.

On October 27th at 2:00pm at the Brockville Police Service the Regional Manager Paul Babcock from Petro Canada will be donating a Childs Battery Ride On Police GMC Yukon SUV and various games. The goal is to assist the Brockville Police Service in engaging youth so they have more opportunities to deliver safety messages to them. The Petro Canada is proud to be a supporter of keeping Brockville a safe community!

Brockville Police Service has partnered with Riverside Ford in Brockville to purchase the new interactive distracted driving simulator. The simulator will be taken to various high schools and events to display the dangers of Distracted driving. Let’s continue to be proactive and protect our youth. A full presentation of the simulator by the Brockville Police Service will be held at Riverside Ford November the 4th at 11:30 Hrs . Special thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. October 22, 2015 Incidents

Warrant

At approximately 1:00 pm. on October 22, 2015, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) of the Brockville Police Service executed a search warrant at an apartment located on Fairknowe Drive in Brockville. The warrant was the result of an investigation led by Detective Mike Grant of the BPS Drug Unit with assistance of both the uniform and detective officers.

As a result of the warrant Police seized:

  • 8 grams of crack cocaine
  • 106 grams of THC, including bud, lose marijuana and hash tar
  • 2 marijuana pills
  • Clonazepam pills

The following stolen property was also seized as a result of the warrant:

  • Red Specialized Mountain bike with disc brakes
  • Milwaukee cordless drill set
  • $200.00 cash

The street value of the drugs seized is in the area of $1700.00 to 2000.00 dollars.

A 42 year old, Brockville woman was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime. She will appear in Brockville court on a later date.

 

Police Assistance

On October 22nd at 3:41 pm., Brockville Police responded to the Lanark Leeds Grenville Mental Health building on Front Avenue.

A 45 year old, local male, attended to the site and made comments about harming himself.  Police located the man nearby and took him to hospital for an assessment of his well being.  The male was admitted for further help.

October 19 – 20, 2015 Incidents

Breaching Conditions

On the 19th and 20th of October, a 25 year old male from the Gananoque area made phone calls and sent text messages to his ex girlfriend in the city of Brockville.

The male was already on release conditions for previous charges against the same woman.  One of those conditions was to have no contact with her in a direct or indirect manner.  Brockville Police began investigating the incident when contacted by the woman.  The male became aware of Police looking to speak with him and turned himself in to the Gananoque Police Service. He was then escorted to Brockville.

A bail hearing will take place later today to determine whether he is released from custody.

 

Shoplifting

On the 20th of October, Brockville Police attended a box store on Parkedale Ave. in regards to a theft complaint.

A local, 26 year old male, was observed stealing electronic type devices from the store and was apprehended.  Police charged the man under the Trespass to Property Act and he was released at the scene. A local, 30 year old female companion of the male, was warned for her involvement.
