Between March, 18 and March 20, 2024, the Brockville Police Service received 117 calls for service.

During this time, we laid nine Criminal Code charges and nine traffic related charges, while making five arrests and one mental health apprehension. 

In one of these incidents on March 18, 2024, at about 10:30pm. Officers received a call to a residence on King St. W., in relation to an intimate partner dispute. Investigation revealed that a 21-year-old, male and his female partner were in an argument. During that argument, the female attempted to take the subjects phone and in response he struck her in the face. Injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The male was arrested and charged with assault and held for a bail hearing. 

Weekend Overview

It was another busy weekend for the Brockville Police Service with as we received 112 calls for service. This resulted in eight arrests, three apprehensions, 16 Criminal Code charges and seven traffic charges. Below are just a few of the details.

Dispute Leads to Assault

On March 17, 2024, at about 2:45am, police received a call regarding a disturbance at a residence on Perth St. Investigation revealed that there was an altercation that had taken place a short time previous at The Bar, on King St. W. At that time, the altercation was mainly between two females, however, it dissolved and all involved individuals left the area. Shortly after, the 31-year-old, female, involved in the original confrontation attended the residence of the second female. While there, another dispute took place that escalated and the 31-year-old, female assaulted the other at her residence. She was placed under arrest for assault and held in custody until sober. She was released on conditions with a future court date.

Impaired Driving

On March 17, 2024, at about 4:00pm, a 38-year-old, male was operating his vehicle in the area of Ormond St. The officer recognized this male and was aware that his driver’s licence was currently under suspension. The officer stopped the vehicle and noticed that the subject had been drinking. A roadside breath sample was taken and the test resulted in a fail. He was arrested and taken for further testing that confirmed he was operating over the legal limit. This is the third arrest for impaired driving since November 2023. As a result, he was charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg and drive while under suspension. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Repeated Behaviour Leads to Harassment   

On March 17, 2024, at about 3:30pm, police received a report of a 49-year-old, male who has been harassing a female. Investigation revealed a long history of similar type behaviour from the male subject. On the reported date, the male had observed the female in Brockville and began to follow and watch her. He continually passed by and made his presence known at her location. This behaviour, along with other history determined that the male would be charged. Later that day he was arrested and held for a bail hearing for the offence of criminal harassment.   

Panhandling and Disturbing Customers Leads to Arrest

On March 16, 2024, at about 12:30pm, police received a call regarding a 30-year-old, male who was harassing customers at Giant Tiger on Park St., by confronting them and asking for money.   Staff requested the male leave the property, however, he refused. Officers arrived and investigation revealed that the male was in Brockville visiting family form Maryland, U.S. He was then asked by the officers to leave the property but he continued to refuse. He was then advised he was being placed under arrest and he began to resist. A struggle ensued which resulted in one officer getting kicked by the subject in the back. The male was taken into custody and controlled. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. The male was held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of resist peace officer, assault peace officer and failing to leave a premise when directed under the Trespass to Property Act. 

Arrest Warrants Executed

Below is a list of bail violation arrests and arrest warrants executed over the past several days:

• On March 12, 2024, at about 6:00pm, a 50-year-old, female was arrested as she failed to comply with her release order conditions by failing to attend her bail supervision program. She was charged and held for a bail hearing.
• On March 13, 2024, at about 8:00pm, a 37-year-old, male was arrested for fail to comply with his release order as he was not residing with his surety. This led to the discovery that he was failing to comply with his probation conditions. In total, he was charged with failing to comply with release order and three counts of failing to comply with probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
• On March 13, 2024, at about 11:45am, a 30-year-old, female was arrested an outstanding arrest warrant for multiple counts of fail to attend court, fail to attend for fingerprinting and fail to comply with probation. She was released on paperwork with a new court date.
• On March 14, 2024, at about 11:30am, a 28-year-old, male was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to attend court in relation to charges of robbery, disguise with intent and uttering threats. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Fire Displaces a Resident on King Street West

On March 13, 2024, at about 9:25pm, police received a call to assist the Brockville Fire Department with controlling access to the area of a fire scene. Officers attended the scene of 196 King St. W. where it was reported that large amounts of smoke was coming out the window of unit three of a multi-unit dwelling. A solo female occupant was cooking dinner when a fire was initiated in the kitchen. Luckily, the firefighters responded quickly and were able to prevent any spread and extinguished the fire. The female resident was displaced from the property due to safety concerns and was provided lodging. Other services were notified to follow-up with assistance for the female, until the residence can be deemed safe. No one was injured and nothing appears suspicious as this is believed to be an unfortunate mishap.

Arrest Made Regarding Transportation Fraud

On March 14, 2024, at about 12:45pm, police received a call regarding a male who had fled a local taxicab, without paying his fare. Police attended the area and spoke to all involved parties as the taxicab driver had located the subject. Investigation revealed that a 45-year-old, male, had taken a ride from a taxicab that resulted in a cab fare of about $40.00. When the subject exited the taxicab, he had no way to pay the fare and initially fled. The taxicab driver did make contact with the subject along with police. As a result, the male subject was charged with transportation fraud and issued paperwork with a future court date.

Weekend Review

Last weekend the Brockville Police Service received 110 calls for service. As a result of those calls, police made three mental health apprehensions, executed two arrest warrants, laid 22 Highway Traffic Act charges and 12 Criminal Code charges. Some investigations have not come to conclusion yet and will be reported on at that time.

Male Arrested After a Robbery Investigation

On March 11, 2024, at about 5:30pm, police received a 911 call regarding a robbery in the area of the Metro on King St. W. Investigation revealed that a male had attended the grocery store with his dog. He tied his pet up outside the store while he went into the store quickly to grab a few items. Witnesses observed a 42-year-old, male, approach the dog and appeared to be attempting to steal it. The owner happened to come out during this and confronted the male subject taking his dog. Then, the subject brandished a knife and swung toward the dog owner. The victim luckily was able to knock the knife away from the subject and the subject fled the area. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Police began searching for the subject and located him a short distance away in the area of Pearl St. W. When he was arrested and searched, it was found that he was in possession of a second knife. The 42-year-old, male was held in custody for a bail hearing after being charged with robbery with a weapon, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose. 

Female Arrested in Intimate Partner Dispute

On March 5, 2024, at about 11:45am, police received a call from a male advising his 38-year-old, girlfriend, were in a dispute where an assault had taken place in the area of James St. Investigation revealed that the female had thrown a cup of liquid on the male and also had caused unrepairable damage to his guitar. The female was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.00. She was released with a future court date and conditions to abstain from communicating with the male.

Later that day at about 5:00pm, police received information from the male victim that the 38-year-old, female subject, had contacted him. There were comments made that also caused officers to have concern for her well-being. She was located and assessed, as well as arrested for the offence of fail to comply with undertaking regarding breaching the non-communication condition. She was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Early Morning Break and Enter

On March 6, 2024, at about 6:15am, police received a report of an alarm at the Telus Store at 2447 Parkedale Ave. Officers arrived and investigation revealed that a window on the front of the store had been smashed and the store entered by the suspect. It was determined through video evidence that a lone individual had entered the store at about 6:09am, and stole various merchandise in the approximate range of four to five thousand dollars. The suspect then fled the scene in a dark coloured minivan, a couple of minutes later. Officers continue to work on identifying the suspect, however, we encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 

Male Arrested after Intimate Partner Dispute

On March 6, 2024, at about 9:00pm, police received a call regarding an intimate partner dispute at a residence on Bridlewood Dr. Officers responded and investigation revealed that a couple at the residence had recently been in a dispute regarding a financial situation. The argument had escalated to the point that the 46-year-old, male, had punched two holes in the wall and thrown several items around the house, causing damage. Other family members were present in the household. The male was arrested and charged with mischief under $5,000.00. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

Intimate Partner Dispute Leads to Arrest Multiple Offences

On March 8, 2024, at about 12:15am, police received a call regarding an injured female during a dispute in the area of Cartier Court. Investigation revealed that a female was involved in a dispute with her 50-year-old, female, partner. The couple were in a dispute over cigarettes when the victim was attacked by her partner, receiving several strikes to the face and being choked. The victim got free from the area and sought help from someone nearby. Police were then notified. Paramedics attended and checked on the victim’s injuries, which can be described as non-life-threatening. The female assailant was arrested an held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault cause bodily harm, overcome resistance (choking) and uttering threats to cause harm.

Subject Fled Scene of a Traffic Stop and Later Arrested

On March 3, 2024, at about 1:00am, officers had conducted a vehicle on George St., for traffic related infractions. It was found that there was a 38-year-old, male driver, alone with a female sleeping in the back seat, not wearing a seatbelt. The male driver appeared to be very nervous and it was determined that he provided a fake name to police. He was unable to provide required documents and answer basic questions. The inside of the vehicle was in disarray with drug paraphernalia visible. Officers’ then developed the belief that the driver was under the influence of substances and a roadside breath demand was made. He refused to cooperate with the roadside demand and then then sped off from the officers, fleeing the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle again as there was concern for the female in the rear seat, but the pursuit did not continue due to public safety concerns. Further investigation revealed the identity of the male and female. It was discovered that the male driver was on conditions to abstain from communicating with the female in the vehicle. These conditions were in relation to a previous incident with concerns for her safety.

Later, on March 4, 2024, the male was located in an unrelated matter by the OPP. The male was arrested, turned over to the Brockville Police Service and held for a bail hearing. He was charged with the offences of fail to comply with release order, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, flight from police, obstruct police, refusal to comply with breath demand, and multiple Highway Traffic Act offences.      

Over this past weekend alone, the Brockville Police Service responded to 117 calls for service. While investigating these calls for service, eight arrests were made along with 19 Criminal Code and 13 Highway Traffic Act charges laid. Below are a few of those details. 

Impaired Driving

On March 2, 2024, at about 2:15am, officers were on patrol when they observed a vehicle in the area of Stewart Blvd and the Highway 401. The vehicle was stopped and there were several individuals inside. Officers believed that the 19-year-old, male driver had been consuming alcohol. A roadside breath sample was taken and it resulted in a fail. The male was arrested and taken to the Brockville Police Service for additional testing. There, it was confirmed that the male was driving while impaired. The vehicle was impounded, drivers licence suspended and he was charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired – blood alcohol over 80mg. He was released with a future court date.

Domestic Dispute Leads to Charges

On March 3, 2024, at about 6:30pm, police received a 911 call at a residence on Georgina St. in regards to screaming at the residence. Officers arrived and investigation revealed that a 56-year-old, female and her male partner were in a verbal dispute over the need to repair damages to their vehicle. During the argument, the female punched a television multiple times and then struck it with a hammer. She was placed under arrest and charged with mischief under $5,000.00. She was released on conditions and a future court date.

Female Charged with Theft and Mischief

On March 2, 2024, at about 10:00am, police received a call to the Days Inn hotel on Stewart Blvd. regarding a theft and property damage. Investigation revealed that a 26-year-old, female was at the hotel visiting a male who had rented a room. During the time she was there, she stole the males debit card, phone and $500.00 cash. She also cut up the debit card and damaged his cell phone beyond repair. Shortly after, she stole approximately $200.00 worth of groceries from the hotel kitchen. She was placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing for the offences of two counts of theft, three counts of fail to comply with probation and mischief under $5,000.00.

Multiple Warrant Executions Over the Weekend

On March 1, 2024, at about 10:15pm – 28-year-old, male arrested on three outstanding warrants for failing to attend court and two counts of fail to comply with probation.

On March 3, 2024, at about 6:00am – 26-year-old, male arrested on three outstanding warrants with charges consisting of three counts of fail to comply with probation, fail to attend for fingerprinting and fail to attend court.

Both males were held in custody for a bail hearing.

Arrest Made After Domestic Disturbance

On February 28, 2024, at about 5:30pm, police received a 911 call with information regarding a domestic assault that took place in the area of Reynold’s Dr. Officers attended the location and investigation revealed that the female had been assaulted by being pushed down and forcibly confined in the residence. The 38-year-old, male subject, had left the residence just prior to police arrival. Further to this, there was evidence that the victim had been assaulted and choked a short time previous. Injuries are non-life-threatening. Officers searched for the male subject and located him a short time later. He was placed under arrest and held for a bail hearing for the offences of two counts of assault, unauthorized possession of a weapon (knife), unlawfully in a dwelling, overcome resistance by choking, forcible confinement and fail to comply with probation.

Male Arrested After Threats with a Weapon  

On February 25, 2024, at about 8:00pm, police received a call regarding a male threatening multiple others with a knife. Investigation revealed that a 28-year-old, male attended a residence on Kensington Pkwy. There were multiple people in the residence and a verbal dispute ensued. During the dispute the male subject made threats to slit two individuals throats while in possession of a knife. The male was arrested for two counts of uttering threats and fail to comply with probation as he had a condition to abstain from the possession of weapons, including knives. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Weapon Used in Aggravated Assault

This morning, February 17, 2024, shortly after 7:00am, the Brockville Police Service received a report of a stabbing that had taken place at a residence in the cities south end. Investigation revealed that four male suspects had attended to the residence and a male was stabbed by an edged weapon. He was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, it is not believed there is any further risk to public safety. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Group Altercation

On February 17, 2024, at about 12:30am, police received multiple calls regarding a fight in the area of King St. W. It was described as involving a group in the range of 15-20 people.  The fight was instigated by two males who were originally in a verbal altercation. The altercation started out in a verbal dispute that escalated, where one male began striking the other male multiple times. Then, others in the area became involved and the disturbance became physical for many. Injuries received by anyone involved are considered non-life-threatening.  The incident is still under investigation and police have already identified many involved. Calls for Service

Since February 12, 2024, the Brockville Police Service has received 192 calls for service. Among those calls’ officers have executed six arrest warrants, four mental health apprehensions and laid 41 charges consisting of 17 traffic charges and 24 criminal charges. Officers during this period averaged almost 40 calls for service each day. Multiple investigations are significant and will be investigated in depth by our Criminal Investigations Branch.
