Crime Prevention Week November 1-7 2015: Community Safety and Well-Being – A Shared Commitment in Ontario

The Brockville Police Service is proud to have a strong partnership with the business community in keeping Brockville a Safe Community.

On October 27th at 2:00pm at the Brockville Police Service the Regional Manager Paul Babcock from Petro Canada will be donating a Childs Battery Ride On Police GMC Yukon SUV and various games. The goal is to assist the Brockville Police Service in engaging youth so they have more opportunities to deliver safety messages to them. The Petro Canada is proud to be a supporter of keeping Brockville a safe community!

Brockville Police Service has partnered with Riverside Ford in Brockville to purchase the new interactive distracted driving simulator. The simulator will be taken to various high schools and events to display the dangers of Distracted driving. Let’s continue to be proactive and protect our youth. A full presentation of the simulator by the Brockville Police Service will be held at Riverside Ford November the 4th at 11:30 Hrs . Special thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. October 22, 2015 Incidents

Warrant

At approximately 1:00 pm. on October 22, 2015, the Emergency Response Team (ERT) of the Brockville Police Service executed a search warrant at an apartment located on Fairknowe Drive in Brockville. The warrant was the result of an investigation led by Detective Mike Grant of the BPS Drug Unit with assistance of both the uniform and detective officers.

As a result of the warrant Police seized:

  • 8 grams of crack cocaine
  • 106 grams of THC, including bud, lose marijuana and hash tar
  • 2 marijuana pills
  • Clonazepam pills

The following stolen property was also seized as a result of the warrant:

  • Red Specialized Mountain bike with disc brakes
  • Milwaukee cordless drill set
  • $200.00 cash

The street value of the drugs seized is in the area of $1700.00 to 2000.00 dollars.

A 42 year old, Brockville woman was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of Stolen Property Obtained by Crime. She will appear in Brockville court on a later date.

 

Police Assistance

On October 22nd at 3:41 pm., Brockville Police responded to the Lanark Leeds Grenville Mental Health building on Front Avenue.

A 45 year old, local male, attended to the site and made comments about harming himself.  Police located the man nearby and took him to hospital for an assessment of his well being.  The male was admitted for further help.

October 19 – 20, 2015 Incidents

Breaching Conditions

On the 19th and 20th of October, a 25 year old male from the Gananoque area made phone calls and sent text messages to his ex girlfriend in the city of Brockville.

The male was already on release conditions for previous charges against the same woman.  One of those conditions was to have no contact with her in a direct or indirect manner.  Brockville Police began investigating the incident when contacted by the woman.  The male became aware of Police looking to speak with him and turned himself in to the Gananoque Police Service. He was then escorted to Brockville.

A bail hearing will take place later today to determine whether he is released from custody.

 

Shoplifting

On the 20th of October, Brockville Police attended a box store on Parkedale Ave. in regards to a theft complaint.

A local, 26 year old male, was observed stealing electronic type devices from the store and was apprehended.  Police charged the man under the Trespass to Property Act and he was released at the scene. A local, 30 year old female companion of the male, was warned for her involvement.

 

October 19th, 2015 Incidents

Fire

On the 19th of October, at 7:00 am., Brockville Police responded to a business on Parkedale Ave. West.

A fire had been set in the mailbox of the business causing damage in the process.  Police have had similar type complaints recently regarding this type of behavior.  The only information so far is that a car with a loud muffler is possibly involved and was reported as dark in colour.

 

Missing Youth – Austin Bennett

On October 19th in the afternoon, our missing youth was discovered hitch hiking by the Leeds OPP.  He was returned to our facility and is obviously no longer being sought out.

 

Family Dispute

On October 19th at 6:00 pm., Brockville Police attended a family dispute at a residence in the center of the city.

A local, 19 year old male, shoved another 49 year old male and also damaged property within the residence.  The young man was arrested and charged with assault and mischief. He was released when calmed down with a future court date.

 

October 16 – 19, 2015 Incidents

Theft
On the 16th of October at 2:43 pm., Brockville Police attended one of the box stores on Parkedale Ave. for a theft complaint.

A 58 year old female, from the Brampton area, had been apprehended by store security for shoplifting.

Police charged the female with theft and released her with a future court date.

 

Breaching Conditions

On October 17th at 1:21 in the morning, Brockville Police received a call about a male party possibly in need of assistance on a south end street.

Police attended the area and located a local, 19 year old, who was very intoxicated and staggering onto the roadway at times. The young man was also found to be on conditions for outstanding criminal charges. These conditions included a curfew and no drinking alcohol. He was arrested and charged with not following his conditions. Once he was in his jail cell for the night, he decided to smash his head against the cell bars. As a result, he was taken to hospital for medical attention.

Now, all fixed up, he will appear in court later this afternoon to determine whether or not his release is granted.

 

Breaching Conditions

On October 17th at 3:10 in the afternoon, Brockville Police officers stopped a vehicle on Stewart Blvd.

The 52 year old, female driver, from Brockville, had a male passenger that she was not allowed to have contact with as she was accused of assaulting him. She also had a condition not to consume alcohol. Police noted she had been drinking and registered a “warn” on a roadside device which resulted in a three day licence suspension. There was also no insurance on the vehicle, which was towed.

She was arrested and charged with breaching her release conditions. Her release took place later and a new court date was issued.

 

Domestic Dispute

On Friday, October 16th around midnight, a 22 year old, Seeley’s Bay man, attended his ex-partner’s residence in the south end of the city.

A verbal exchange took place when the male was refused entry into the home. He then proceeded to punch his ex in the nose and the side of the head. The 26 year old, female victim, suffered non life threatening injuries. The accused returned to the residence the next day and stole a phone from the victim and assaulted her again. He fled the area in his vehicle. On the 18th of October at 2:30 in the afternoon, the accused was located and arrested.

He will appear in bail court today and faces charges including, two counts of assault, theft and failing to comply with his probation order. The probation order was as a result of past convictions for assault against the same victim.

 

Unlawfully at Large

On October 9th, 2015, staff of the Brockville Jail contacted the Brockville Police in regards to a male who had failed to show for his weekend sentence. On October 19th, the local, 31 year old, was arrested and charged for being unlawfully at large. He will appear in bail court today.

October 16th Incident

Medical Call

On October 16th at 2:08 in the morning, Brockville Police attended an apartment complex in the south end of the city for a medical related call.

A 19 year old, local female, had given birth, ten weeks prior to her due date.

Police assisted with the new born and mother until medical attention arrived and took over, taking both to hospital. Police have no information in regards to the health of either individual.

Rescue

Rescue

On October 15th at 11:06 in the evening, Brockville Police attended the water front at the end of Home Street for a submerged vehicle.

Officers noticed the vehicle was almost completely under water however, there was a female within the vehicle still, near the back window area. She was drawing breaths in a bubble that still existed within the car.

Sgt. Andrew Harvie, jumped in the river and using his Police issued baton, broke out the back window.

At this point, only her nose and eyes remained above water. She was then pulled from the vehicle and helped to shore where first aid was administered.

The local, 71 year old, was taken to hospital for assessment. Driver error was determined to be the cause of the close call.

October 15th Incidents

Domestic Dispute

On October 15th at approximately 12:30 am, Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute outside an apartment complex in the south end of the city.

A local, 21 year old female, was the instigator in a fight with a local, 25 year old male. The male was an ex-boyfriend of the female’s current partner. She was fined under the city fighting bylaw.

Police encouraged the male to find other accommodations for the evening. However, once out of sight, he returned to the apartment building and was found hiding in the bedroom of the apartment where the problem started. He ended up being arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace. No charges were laid against the male and he was released later the same day.

 

Liquor Offence

On October 15th at approximately 12:50 am, a local, 39 year old male, attended the Brockville Police station looking for a place to stay.

The intoxicated man was on release conditions for outstanding charges with one of those conditions being not to consume any alcohol.

He was arrested and charged with breaching his undertaking and released when sober with a future court date.

 

Drug Offence

On October 15th at 1:15 in the afternoon, Brockville Police attended the Brockville Jail to begin a drug investigation.

A local, 38 year old male, attended the Jail to begin serving an intermittent sentence. When Jail staff began searching the male they discovered drugs hidden on his body. Police seized the drug, believing it to be “crystal meth”. The male was kept in custody to serve his time but now faces a new charge for possession of the controlled substance.

 

Shoplifting

On October 15th at 3:25 in the afternoon, Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a shoplifting complaint. Two males had stolen electronic items and fled the store.

Police located the two males a few blocks from the store. A local, 14 year old male, was arrested and charged with theft. He was released on conditions with a future court date.

His local, 19 year old accomplice, was arrested and charged with theft, possession of stolen property and breach of an outstanding probation order. He was also in possession of a pocket knife and indicated to Police that it was for personal protection. This resulted in a further charge of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The older male was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

October 13th, 2015 Incident

Well Being Check

On October 13th, Brockville Police attended a King Street address to assist CAS while they checked on the well being of some children.

The mother of the children began causing a disturbance outside the residence and had to be arrested for the safety of those at the scene. The local, 23 year old, threatened the well-being of the Children’s Aid Society worker and her own mother who was nearby. On the way to the Police station, she spit on Police officers.

A bail court appearance will take place for her to address charges of utter threats, causing a disturbance and assault Police.

“OPERATION IMPACT”

The Brockville Police are pleased to report no significant accidents related to the long weekend.

One driver was issued a 72 hour licence suspension, one was charged with distracted driving and eight speeders were ticketed. Thirteen other traffic offences were met with fines which fell under aggressive driving. Police laid ten charges for criminal offences.

On Friday, October 9th, members operated a RIDE program in the city. Contact was made with several hundred drivers but happily, no impaired drivers were discovered.
