Theft

Property recovered after man arrested for theft. A 53 year old Brocvkille man was arrested and charged for theft of merchandise from a north end retail store. The man was cooperative when police located him after he had left the area and did return the stolen property. Police issued the culprit a future court date for the offence of theft under 5000 dollars contrary to the Criminal Code.

Liquor Licence Act

Man arrested after he calls police. A local 48 year old man was arrested to prevent any further breach of the peace following his call to advise police that everything was ok in his residence. Police attended the south end location and noted the man was intoxicated and if left in the residence could possibly result in further problems. The man had no other places to go for the night and was lodeged in cells to prevent any further breach of the peace. The man was released in the morning, unconditionally when sober.

Domestic Dispute

28 year old Brockville man arrested and held in custody for domestic assault and Mischief. On the 17th of December, 2016 at approximately 2 a.m. police repsonded to a south end residence for reports of a man and woman yelling and the sound of things being smashed. After the incident was investigated and all spoken to the man was arrested for assault and mischief. The man was held in custody and will appear in court on Monday the 19th of December, 2016. There were no serious injuries noted in this matter with no medical treatment required. Mischief reported was limited to throwing and breaking the victim’s IPAD rendering it useless.

Liquor Licence Act

Man arrested crawling down the street. A local 52 year old man was observed by police crawling on his hands and knees in the snow on John Street at approximatley 3 a.m. The man was intoxicated and not capable of properly caring for himself at that time. The man was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and to ensure his safety he was lodged in cells at the police station. The man was released, when sober, in the morning.

Stolen Vehicle

On December 14th at 5:03 am., Brockville Police received a report of a street lamp struck by a vehicle on a north end street.  Shortly afterwards, police received a complaint of a stolen vehicle from a north end resident. Keys had been left in a nearby vehicle for the purposes of moving the vehicle so they could remain in the driveway and avoid parking on the street.  Due to debris left behind at the accident scene, police were able to determine the same vehicle was involved.  Just before 7:00 am., Brockville Police received a call from a member of the community who observed the vehicle parked behind a north end public school.  Officers noted extensive damage to the 2007, Chevrolet Impala.  The investigation continues into suspects who had already fled the scene.

We remind people not to leave keys within their vehicles. Although it may present more work to move vehicles around, removing opportunity for criminals is very important.

Breach of Probation

Hiding in his girlfriend’s closet resulted in probation breaches for local, 23 year old man.  A member of the Children’s Aid Society was checking on a local, 27 year old woman, at her south end residence and discovered the man in the house.  The incident took place on December 13th around 3:30 pm., and was then reported to police for follow-up.  One of the probation conditions involved the man having no contact with the woman and not to be at her residence.

On the 15th, in the early afternoon, the accused turned himself into police.  He was arrested and charged with two counts of breaching his probation and released shortly afterwards with a future fingerprint and court date along with conditions to follow.

Break and Enter / Stolen Vehicle

A stolen vehicle and its occupants struck a north end residence just after midnight today.  Brockville Police responded to the scene and noted heavy damage to the vehicle and the garage of the home.  The black, Honda Accord, had been stolen minutes before from a north end home.  The owners of the vehicle had gone for a late night walk and returned to find officers waiting for them.  Police noted their door had been kicked in and some items had been removed from the residence. The culprits then fled the area using the couple’s vehicle.  The owner of the damaged home contacted police and ambulance, believing the occupants would require medical attention.  The suspects however, walked away from the scene. The driver is being described as a taller, thin, male with long dark hair and a green, army style coat.  Police also contacted natural gas employees to deal with a damaged meter on the residence.

Brockville Police are encouraging the Community to assist us in preventing or solving these types of crimes.  Officers canvassed residents in the involved areas today and learned there were many witnesses to the erratic driving.  Police however, did not receive phone calls about these actions.  If the members of the Community note persons out of place or vehicles being driven in a dangerous manner, please call us.

Theft From Residence 

A north end resident had a package removed from his front porch.  The parcel had been dropped off on the 12th between 8 and 8:45 pm., on a well lit front step.  The items included electronics and jewelry.  Brockville Police officers are still investigating the incident.

Mischief to School

An unknown (culprit) decided to deface a play ground slide and bus signs at a central/east school.  Using what appears to be a black marker, the suspect wrote words and drew inappropriate pictures.  Brockville Police received the complaint on the 13th around noon hour.  The writing was removed and no permanent damage sustained.

Theft of Fuel

A transport truck suffered a large fuel theft while parked in a lot off Jefferson Drive on the 13th.  Brockville Police attended to speak with the victim around 6:00 pm.  Unknown suspects managed to syphon hundreds of litres of fuel from the parked rig.

The investigation continues into the theft.

The Brockville Police Service is reminding motorists and passengers to, “Lock it OR Lose it” , when it comes to their vehicles and valuables as part of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police’s (OACP) annual Lock it OR Lose it campaign.

Ontario police services are launching this year’s Lock it OR Lose it campaign during the holiday season because its easy to be distracted and leave vehicles unlocked or valuables in plain sight during the holiday hustle-and-bustle. Our service will use Lock it OR Lose it notices throughout the year as part of our on-going crime prevention efforts.

During the Lock it OR Lose it campaign, police officers, community volunteers and crime prevention personnel examine parked vehicles to confirm they are locked and that no valuables have been left in plain view. They place a small notice on vehicles checked indicating what safety precautions were neglected and offer simple prevention tips for drivers to protect their vehicles against theft. The notices also congratulate drivers who have secured their vehicle.

This year, police are particularly concerned that auto theft rates are up for the second consecutive year. According to the Insurance Bureau of Canada, there were nearly 79,000 incidents of motor vehicle theft reported by police in 2015, resulting in a rate of 220 per 100,000 population. Between 2014 and 2015, the rate of motor vehicle theft in Canada increased 6%. This was the second consecutive increase in the rate following ten years of declines. 

Motorists and passengers are also urged not to keep personal documents such as vehicle ownership, liability pink slips, credit card invoices, or other documents containing personal information in their vehicles. Identity thieves are looking for such documents so they can assume identities, secure credit card accounts, lease vehicles for export, and even take out a mortgage against victims’ properties without their knowledge.

Our Community will begin to see Our volunteers and students placing these cards on vehicles this week.

Probation Breach

A local, 19 year old man, was charged with breaching his probation yesterday morning.  Brockville Police took a complaint involving the male inside a south end residence, which actually belonged to another absent family member.  Officers located him there which was breaching a condition of his probation order.  He was arrested and charged with breaching the order and released later on conditions with a future court date.

Mental Health

Unfounded aggression towards a family pet resulted in a mental health apprehension.  Brockville Police received a request yesterday around noon to attend a south end residence to speak to a local, 23 year old man.  He was reported to be yelling at a cat in the residence and acting out of character.  Officers escorted him to hospital for appropriate care.

Shoplifting and Uncooperative

Stealing from a north end boxstore and then resisting arrest, resulted in criminal charges for a Kingston area duo.  A 34 year old female and her 14 year old, male accomplice stole a large sum of items and began loading them into a waiting vehicle.  Around 5:00 yesterday afternoon, Brockville Police located the twosome near the intersection of Parkedale Avenue and North Augusta Road.  They had taken off from store security and tried to run from officers as well.  Both parties have been arrested and charged with theft and resisting arrest.  They face a future court date after being released from custody.

Threats

Lending money became an issue for two area young people.  A 24 year old, local female, borrowed money from a local male and then had difficulty paying him back.  Growing impatient, the man telephoned her and threatened to hurt her with a knife.  A second call threatened the well-being of her father.  Brockville Police were contacted shortly after nine last night and the incident was reported.  Officers spoke to the accused who turned himself over to police at headquarters.  He was arrested and charged with uttering a threat and released on conditions with a future court date.

Domestic Disturbance

Local male arrested for assaulting his girlfriend. On the 10th of December, 2016 at approximately 3:30a.m., the Brockville Police Service received a report of a fire alarm sounding in a building in the downtown area of the city. Officers attended to investigate and found that the alarm was actually activated by a 19 year old female. She activated the alarm in attempts to prevent further being assaulted by her 26 year old boyfriend. The assault is described as being minor; however, the male was arrested and released with a court date for the assault.

Missing Person Located Successfully

A local elderly female was located within moments of receiving severe injury due to elements. On the 10th of December, 2016 at approximately 6:30a.m., the Brockville Police Service received a report of an 80 year old female suffering from dementia, missing from her residence in the North end of the city. The female was noticed missing by her husband from sometime throughout the night. Officers quickly attended the area and began to canvas for the female. It was believed that she would be confused and not dressed for the elements causing significant concern for her wellbeing in the subzero temperatures. Shortly after 7 a.m., officers patrolling the area luckily found the female laying on the front step of a residence not far from her own. She was not dressed for the elements and in medical distress. Thankfully, the home owners where the female was located were gracious enough to provide assistance that greatly helped the female in recovery. Paramedics responded quickly and transported the female to the Brockville General Hospital. Police are unaware of the current medical status of the female.

Residential Thefts

Christmas décor is being stolen from various residences throughout the city. On the 10th of December, 2016 at approximately 8:15 a.m., the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of the laser projector type Christmas lights being stolen from a North end residence. In fact, the Police Service has received many complaints since the end of November in regards to similar types of incidents. These lights have an approximate value ranging up to $300. We would like to make the public aware so attempts can be made to better secure these items. We strongly encourage the public to report any information to police in relation to these incidents.

Shoplifting

There were 4 other individuals, who were arrested for theft yesterday the 9th of December, 2016. These thefts occurred at 2 different department stores in the North end of the city. They are separate from the one reported in the 9th of December media release. One incident involved 3 youths acting together in a minor theft and the second was a lone adult male at a different location. All individuals arrested are local. The adult was charged and issued a court date. The three youths were dealt with by way of an extrajudicial measure in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Mental Health Apprehension

36 year old local male apprehended for a mental health assessment. On the 8th of December, 2016 at approximately 17:45 hours, the Brockville Police Service received a report in regards to the above described male. The complainant indicated concerns over comments being made and messages sent by the male to cause harm to himself. The male was located and transported to the Brockville General Hospital for evaluation by psychiatric staff.

Cause Disturbance and Mischief

Male arrested and charged for a disturbance outside a local licensed establishment. On the 9th of December, 2016 at approximately 2:15 a.m., a 21 year old male was arrested for causing a disturbance out front of a downtown licensed establishment. The arrested male was intoxicated which added to the cause of the problem. He was transported to the Brockville Police Service and held in cells until sober. While there, damage was caused in the cell block area which resulted in a charge of mischief.

Attempt Entry to a Residence

Male arrested for attempting to enter a residence while intoxicated. On the 9th of December, 2016 at approximately 5:30a.m., an intoxicated 23 year old male attempted to enter a residence in the South end of the city. The owner of the residence did not know the male suspect and found that minor damage was caused. The suspect was located and arrested. It was also learned he was on bail conditions of a curfew and to abstain from alcohol consumption. The male was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Shoplifting

3 males, 18 years of age, arrested and charged for theft. On the 9th of December 2016, at approximately 12:45 p.m., a loss prevention officer at a local department store arrested 3 young males. The males were all involved together in a minor theft. Each male was released at the scene with a court date for the theft.

Middle of the Road

Man transported to hopsital after a short foot pursuit. On the 7th of December, 2016 at approximatley 8:19 a.m. members of the Brockville Police attended to the area of Buell Street and Pearl Street for reports of a male walking in the middle of the road forcing cars to move and avoid striking him. Officers located and spoke to the 35 year old Brockville resident however during the conversation the man ran for an unknown reason. The man was subsequently re-located and ambulance contacted. The man was then transported to the Brocville General Hospital for necessary evaluation.

Disqualified Driving Charge

On the 7th of December, 2016 at approximately 3:45 p.m. a local 54 year old man was stopped for driving with an expired validation sticker. Brockville Police then learned that the man was a disqualified driver for a criminal code conviction and should not be operating a motor vehicle. The man was consequently issued a future court date for driving while disqaulified.

Theft

A 47 year old Brockville man is wanted by police after attending a North end business where he attempted to leave the store with a shopping cart full of unpaid toys. The value is unknown at this time and police are attempting to locate the subject.

Assault

A Brockville resident, 21 years of age, was arrested and charged with one count of assault after slapping her ex boyfriend in front of police. Police were present to resolve an issue over child custody when the assault took place.

Mental Health Apprehension

On the 5th of December, 2016 at approximately 5:50 pm, the Brockville Police Service received a report from a local North end business of a 24 year old man attempting to fight employees. The man was not a customer or employed by the business. On arrival, officers assessed the males behaviour and apprehended him under the authority of the Mental Health Act. The male was transported to the Brockville General Hospital for necessary evaluation by medical and psychiatric staff. There were no assaults or injuries in this matter. The male was of no fixed address at the time of this occurrence.

Reminder not to drink and drive

With the holiday season upon us, the Brockville Police Service would like to remind people to drink responsibly. Officers will be conducting scheduled R.I.D.E. programs throughout the City. If you drink, don’t drive….Please take a cab or desigante someone as the sober driver.
