February 5 – 9, 2016 Incidents

Impaired Driving

On February 5th at 5:12 pm., Brockville Police stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic offence on Stewart Blvd.

While dealing with the male driver, Officers determined the subject was driving the motor vehicle while impaired by a drug.  The local, 31 year old, was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving.  He was released later the same day with a future court date.

Penalties for driving while impaired are the same, whether by a drug or alcohol.

 

Motor Vehicle Accident

On February 5th at 8:17 pm., Brockville Police started an investigation involving a motor vehicle that collided with four other vehicles while fleeing from scene to scene leaving a string of damage in it’s wake.

A local, 24 year old male, was travelling southbound on Stewart Blvd. when he rear ended another vehicle.  The man then turned right onto Central Ave. to continue westbound, the problem was, he had entered the eastbound lanes of traffic. As a result, he collided with another vehicle and left the area but not before smashing into the retaining wall on the south side of the intersection.  The accused then travelled southbound on Perth Street before turning left onto Front Avenue. His own vehicle was rendered inoperable when he then crashed into two more vehicles.

Police arrested the young man for failing to remain at the scene of the first two accidents. It was then noted, the male was impaired by alcohol.  Breath samples were obtained and registered alcohol levels two and a half times the legal limit.  Police found it hard to believe that no one was injured during the rampage.  Heavy damage was sustained by most of the vehicles and the entire front end of the suspect’s vehcile was destroyed.  When sober, the local male, was released with a future court date.

 

Domestic Dispute

On February 5th at 11:06 pm., Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute at a south end residence.

A local, 38 year old male, was involved in a dispute with his spouse.  The man then decided to punch a hole in a wall of the house.  Police arrested and charged the subject with mischief.  He was released the following day with a future court date.

 

Community Service

On February 5th at 11:08 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment complex to check on the wellbeing of a male resident.  The local, 59 year old, had made comments about wanting to harm himself.  Police took the male to hospital for appropriate care.

 

Noise Complaint

On February 6th at 3:37 am., Brockville Police attended an apartment complex in the center of the city for a noise complaint.

Other residents in the building told Police that the responsible female turns her stereo down when Police attend.  The complaintaints had actually recorded the violation as evidence for Officers.  A local, 39 year old, was charged under the city’s noise by-law and issued a $300.00 fine.

 

Community Service

On February 6th at 4:08 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end residence to check on a male party.  The man was overheard talking about wanting to harm himself.  Police took the subject to hospital where it was determined he was not a risk to himself and had him returned home.

 

Public Intoxication

On February 6th at 9:17 pm., Brockville Police attended the Brockville General Hospital to deal with an unwanted person.

A local, 33 year old female, arrived at the facility drunk and loud. She was causing a disturbance and would not settle down on request of staff.  Police arrested the woman to prevent a further breach of the peace.  She was released unconditionally the next day when sober.

 

Community Service

On February 9th at 3:25 am., Brockville Police attended an apartment building in the center of the city to check on a female and her mental state.  Police located the local, 21 year old and noted she had been consuming alcohol and talking about harming herself.  Officers took her to hospital for appropriate treatment.

 

Shoplifting

On February 9th at 2:17 pm., Brockville Police attended a business in the north end to deal with a shoplifter.

Officers spoke to a local, 48 year old female, who was caught taking items and making no attempt to purchase them.  The woman was charged under the Trespass to Property Act and given a fine at the scene.

The merchandise was retained by the store.

 

Wanted Person

On February 9th at 3:39 pm., a local, 26 year old male, turned himself into Police.  The man realized he had missed court on the Friday prior for an offence of mischief.  Officers decided his excuse was palatable and released the subject with a future court date and some advice.

February 2 – 4, 2016 incidents

Community Service

On February 2nd at 4:14 pm., Brockville Police attended an apartment complex in the center of the city for a mental health call.

A local, 21 year old female, had expressed a desire to harm herself.  Officers located the young woman and escorted her to hospital for appropriate care.

 

Breach of Conditions

On February 3rd at 8:30 pm., Brockville Police received a report of a man staggering on King St. West near the Kingston bridge. The caller indicated the male had left the sidewalk area several times, travelling onto the roadway. Police searched the area but could not locate him.

At 10:23 pm., Officers located a man on King Street that matched the description given in the earlier call.  The local, 54 year old, was spoken to and investigation revealed he was on probation as well as release conditions for outstanding charges.  The subject was no longer residing at the address given when he was released. One of his conditions was to report any change of his residence.  He was arrested and charged with breaching the conditions of both his probation order and his undertaking.  A new court date was given and the male was released from custody shortly after his arrest.

 

Warrant Arrest

On December 10th, 2015, a local. 47 year old man, was scheduled to attend the Brockville Police Service for fingerprints. Attending for fingerprints was a requirement placed on him weeks earlier when released from custody for criminal charges.

A warrant for his arrest was then obtained.

On February 4th at 1:29 am., Smiths Falls Police came into contact with the man and arrested him as a resut of the warrant.  Brockville Police Officers took custody of the man and he was releassed with a future court date. A charge of failing to attend for fingerprints was laid and added to his outstanding offences.

 

January 29 – 31, 2016 Incidents

Unlawfully at Large

On December 25th, 2015, Brockville Police took a report from the Brockville Jail cocerning a local man who did not show up for his weekend sentence.

On January 29th at 10:41 am., Brockville Police took custody of the 50 year old and took him to court later the same day for a bail hearing.  The man had been located by the OPP and arrested on the strength of the warrant issued for being unlawfully at large.

 

Family Dispute

On January 30th at 3:07 am., Brockville Police responded to a family dispute at a south end residence.

A local, 21 year old male, was upset after a verbal dispute with family members. He proceeded to damage items in the house.  The young man was also on probation with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behavior.  Officers arrested and charged the man with mischief and breaching his probation.  He was released later the same day on conditions and given a future court date.

 

Community Service

On January 30th at 11:00 am., Brockville Police attended a downtown business to deal with a man people had concerns with.

The local, 60 year old, had attended the store wearing womens clothing and nothing on his feet.  Police apprehended the troubled male and took him to hospital for appropriate medical attention.

 

Public Intoxication

On January 30th at 6:31 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment complex.

Officers came across an intoxicated woman who was found to be on probation with conditions that included no consumption of alcohol.  The local, 37 year old, was arrested and charged with breaching her probation order.  She was released when sober with a future court date.

On January 30th at 11:59 pm., Brockville Police responded out front of a downtown bar to deal with a man causing problems with other people in the area.  The local, 34 year old could not be reasoned with. He was arrested and charged with public intoxication.  The man was released the next day when sober and issued a fine.

 

Family Dispute

On January 31st at 7:56 pm., Brockville Police responded to a family dispute at a south end residence.

Investigation led to the apprehension of a local, 46 year old male for mental health purposes.  He was escorted to hospital for appropriate care.

 

January 26, 2016 Incident

Breach of Conditions

On January 26th at 4:12 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end apartment complex to investigate a breach of release conditions.

Last week, Police charged a 26 year old, local male, with mischief. He had damaged an interior door at the residence of his ex spouse during a verbal dispute.  At that time he was charged and released on conditions which included no communication with his 34 year old ex partner.

Investigation revealed three separate incidents, since he was released, where he contacted the female.  Police arrested and charged the male with three counts of breaching his release conditions.  He was released with a future court date.

 

 

January 25, 2016 Incident

Domestic Dispute

On January 25th at 3:11 pm., Brockville Police responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in the center area of the city.

A local, 32 year old female, reported her husband had slapped her across the face. She then left the residence and called Police from a neighbour’s phone.  Investigation led to the arrest of her 36 year old spouse.  The accused man was charged with assault and released on conditions with a future court date.

 

January 22 – 23, 2016 Incidents

Domestic Dispute

On January 22nd at 11:35 am., Brockville Police began investigating a domestic dispute that took place in a north end apartment complex.

A local, 34 year old female, reported her ex-boyfriend showing up all the time at her apartment and causing problems for her.  On this date, he showed up and was following her from room to room in the residence. When she attempted to close a bedroom door, the male kicked it back open, damaging the door in the process.  Police located the local, 26 year old, staying in a nearby building. He was arrested and charged with mischief and taken into custody.  Later the same day, the male was released on conditions and given a future court date.

 

Disturbance

On January 22nd at 5:38 pm., Brockville Police responded to a disturbance in a north end apartment building hallway.

A local, 25 year old male, attended one of the units in the building and got into a disagreement with one of the residents over personal property.  As the male was leaving the premises, he discharged an aresol irritant into the hallway area. Most likely a bear repellant or something similar.  Residents and officers on scene experienced burning sensations in their throats and eyes. The Brockville Fire Department was asked to attend to assist with airing out the building.  The accused also threatened the tenant’s safety both verbally and through facebook.

Police were unable to locate the accused at the time of the incident. A warrant is being sought for his arrest for the offences of mischief and uttering threats.

 

Domestic Dispute

On January 22nd at 7:57 pm., Brockville Police started an investigation into a domestic dispute that started while parties were travelling in a vehicle on Parkedale Ave.

The local couple had been out for dinner when a verbal dispute turned physical while driving home.  The local, 35 year old female, struck her spouse in the face, causing a bloody nose. She then kicked the front window area, knocking the mirror off and cracking the glass.  Her spouse, a local, 51 year old male, managed to remove her from the vehicle and left her in the area.

Police stopped the vehicle a short distance away and found the male had been consuming alcohol. He was given a roadside breath test, registered a warn and was issued a three suspension of his licence.  The female was charged with assault on her spouse and mischief to the vehicle.  She was released on conditions with a future court date.  The man suffered minor injuries as a result. He did not require medical attention.

 

‘Operation Doorknock’

On January 23rd at 9:00 pm., Brockville Police Officers enforced “Operation Doorknock”, checking on charged persons to ensure compliance with bail conditions and house arrest.

No infractions were discovered after checking numerous subjects.

 

January 19, 2016 Incidents

Unwanted Person

On January 19th at 5:12 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end business to deal with an unwanted female customer.

The woman had received services at the location and was refusing to pay her bill.  Police spoke to the local, 49 year old, who was in a very intoxicated state.  She was arrested and charged for public intoxication and taken into custody.  When sober, the woman was released with a fine.

 

Domestic Dispute

On January 19th at 7:35 pm., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at an apartment building in the south end of town.

The couple began arguing over the female’s alcohol consumption. The 34 year old woman then assaulted her 41 year old, male partner. She then proceeded to cause some damage to property within the apartment. She left the area on foot.  After speaking with the vicitm, Police located the female nearby and she was arrested and charged with assault and mischief. She was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

The vicitm sustained minor injuries in the assault and did not require medical attention.

 

Breach of Conditions

On January 18th at 5:09 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end residence to investigate a violation of a youth’s release conditions.

A local, 14 year old male, was arrested and charged for property offences in October of 2015. One of his conditions involved following the rules of his father’s residence.  The father reported this was not happening and the youth had not been seen for a couple days.  Police have started an investigation into the breaches of the young teens conditions and he is currently wanted for not abiding by house rules.

 

New Phone Scam

Callers are claiming to be VISA representatives, asking about recent transactions from cardholders to seek verification. In the process your VISA card number is verified because you want to be helpful.

Please do not give your information out. When people have began asking questions of these callers, they hang up very quickly.

 

January 18, 2016 Incidents

Well Being Check

On January 18th at 6:17 pm., Brockville Police received a request from another Poilce agency, requesting a check on the wellbeing of a local female.

Police attended a south end residence and located the 25 year old.  Based on their interaction with her, Police decided she was in need of mental health care. She was taken to hospital for appropriate help.  Originally, other family members had contacted Police after she made comments about wanting to harm them.

 

Compliance Checks

On January 18th starting around 9:00 pm., Brockville Police Officers attended several homes in the city performing compliance checks.

People on house arrest or court imposed curfews, attend their doors at the request of Police to ensure they are abiding by conditions of release.  Everyone was abiding by their conditions on this evening.
