August 12 – 18, 2022 Statistics

Over the last week from August 12 – August 18, the Brockville Police Service received 315 calls for service. While responding to those calls, there were a total of 17 arrests and two mental health apprehensions. As a result of investigations there were 39 Criminal Charges laid. Officers continue to monitor traffic within the City and as a result, 15 traffic related charges were issued. Some of these statistics do not reflect everything an officer accomplishes in shift. It is simply a quick look at what the Brockville Police Service is doing to ensure safety and security.  

August 13 – 17, 2022 News Release

Voyeurism

On August 13, 2022 at about 8:30PM, the Brockville Police Service engaged into an investigation concerning voyeurism. The investigation revealed that a 47-year-old male, who was the Step-father of the home, had concealed a video recording device in the family home. With that device, multiple recordings of various people in compromising positions were captured. The device was seized and the victims have been identified and spoken to by police. On August 14, 2022 at about 3:30PM, the accused 47-year-old male was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with voyeurism and held in custody for a bail hearing.  

 

Shoplifting

On August 15, 2022 at about 11:00AM, the Brockville Police Service received a complaint regarding a theft from the LCBO on King St. W. Investigation revealed that a 40-year-old male was identified to have entered the store, selected two bottles of alcohol valued at approximately $140 in total and left making no attempts to pay for the items. The male was located shortly after the incident occurred and he was placed under arrest. The male was released from custody after being charged with theft under $5,000.00 and two counts of failing to comply with probation.

 

Warrants

On August 16, 2022 at about 2:30AM, officers from the Brockville Police Service were proactively walking through St. Lawrence Park. While in the park, officers located a 44-year-old male who was known to be wanted. He had a warrant out for his arrest stemming from an investigation into a domestic disturbance on August 7, 2022. The charges from that investigation were uttering threats and forcible confinement. The male was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing.  

 

 

August 12 – 13, 2022 News Release

Disturbance

On August 12, 2022 at about 11:00AM, the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a 29-year-old male causing a disturbance in the area of Perth St. and Church St. Officers attended and located the male. He had been asked to leave a nearby residence and was refusing to leave the area. He was found to be intoxicated and also in possession of a knife. The knife was not being used in a threatening manner. The male was arrested due to his intoxication levels and the disturbance being caused. Upon his arrest he was searched and officers located a small amount of crystal meth. He was later released once sober and charged with two counts of breaching his probation and possession of crystal meth.

 

Impaired Driving

On August 13, 2022 at about 6:00PM, the Brockville Police Service received a call of a motor vehicle collision in the parking lot near the Stewart Blvd and 401. Officers arrived on scene and located all parties involved. Investigation revealed that a 35-year-old male was operating a motor vehicle in the parking lot and caused the collision. Officers also noticed that he was under the influence of alcohol. The male driver failed the roadside screening device test and was arrested for driving over 80mgs. He was taken to the Brockville Police Service for further testing where it was confirmed that he was operating over the legal limit of alcohol. He was later released after being charged with operation while impaired and operation while impaired by alcohol blood concentration over 80mgs. His driver’s licence was also suspended and vehicle impounded.

 

Warrant

On August 12, 2022 at about 7:00PM, officers from the Brockville Police Service located and arrested a 46-year-old male, who was known to have a bench warrant for his arrest for failing to attend court. The male was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

August 11 – 12, 2022 Media Release

Minor Fire at Hardy Park

At approximately 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Brockville Police were called to assist the Brockville Fire Department at Hardy Park in relation to a minor fire that they had extinguished earlier.

Firefighters attended to the Park and found articles of clothing had been lit on fire. Witnesses at the scene told police and fire an unidentified male was observed lighting the clothes on fire and then left the area. The male is described as wearing a blue shirt, approximately 5’8” -5’9” tall and slender to medium build.

Theft from Downtown Clothing Store

Brockville Police are investigating the theft of several articles of clothing from a clothes rack out in front of a downtown clothing store.

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m. offices were called to the store after a report of an unidentified female removing a number of shirts from the clothing rack into a bag she was carrying and flee east bound on King Street on her bicycle.

The female suspect is described as wearing white jeans, a purple shirt and having her hair up in a ponytail.

Scammers active in area

Brockville residents seem to be the target of fraudsters in the area again.

On Thursday evening Brockville Police received a call from a Brockville area woman who went to check on her elderly father who resides in the city. When she arrived at her father’s residence she observed her father had a large amount of gift cards sitting on his kitchen table. After speaking with her dad, she learned that he had been the victim of a scam whereby her father was encouraged to purchase gift cards to pay a bill.

Common versions of this scam operating in the area will be to coerce the victim into paying for a loved one’s medical bill who has been in an accident, or a tax bill of some sort such as duty to get a package into the country.

Residents are asked to watch out for family and friends who make abnormally large purchases of gift cards especially for items and from stores they do not normally purchases items from.

August 9 – 10, 2022 Media Release

Motor Vehicle Collision results in minor injuries

At approximately 3:20 p.m. yesterday afternoon, Brockville Police responded to a head-on motor vehicle collision with injuries between two pick-up trucks on King Street West in the area of St. Lawrence Park.

Witnesses report seeing a westbound truck swerve into the eastbound lane and into the path of another truck travelling east into the City’s downtown core. Passengers in both vehicles suffered minor injuries were taken to Brockville General Hospital and treated for minor injuries and later released.

The 34 year old male driver of the westbound vehicle is facing charges of careless driving and failure to produce his insurance card.

 

 

Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspections

The Brockville Police partnered with the Ministry of Transportation Enforcement division conducting Commercial Motor Vehicle inspections in the city yesterday.  Of the 10 vehicles selected for inspection, 6 were placed out of service, 3 had license plates removed. In total 12 Provincial Offence notices were issued for a variety of violations as well as numerous warnings issued.

 

 

Property Recovered from Rotary Park

The Brockville Police are trying to reunite the owner of a bag containing several valuable personal items found at the Rotary Park yesterday afternoon with its owner.

The bag contained a cell phone, glasses and case, various cards, and other personal items. If someone was at the park yesterday and lost their bag, please contact the Brockville Police at 613-342-0127 and describe the contents of the bag so police can make arrangements to get the property returned.

 

August 8 – 9, 2022 Media Release

It was a fairly busy 24 hour period for officers with the Brockville Police who responded to 36 calls for service including 2 arrests, 2 apprehensions under the Mental Health Act, and another arrest of an Adult male who turned himself in at the Brockville Police Headquarters on several outstanding warrants and is being held for a bail hearing later today.

 

Theft of Catalytic Converter

A local car dealership was the target of thieves stealing a catalytic converter from a vehicle parked on their lot over the weekend.

Sometime between Saturday night at 7pm and Monday morning suspects attended to the lot of Riverside Ford and removed the catalytic converter from a 2017 F-150 pick-up truck parked on the lot.  When staff reported for work on Monday morning and noticed the damage, police were contacted and attended.

Anyone who has information or observed suspicious persons or vehicles around the Riverside Ford lot over the weekend is asked to contact the Brockville Police at 613-342-0127 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

If members of the public observe suspicious activity around car dealership lots such as crawling under vehicles, attempting door handles, suspicious vehicles in the area for extended periods of time or using electronic devices around vehicles after normal business hours is asked to contact Brockville Police immediately.

 

 

Theft from Local Convenience Store leads to additional charges

A 54 year old Brockville area man was arrested early this morning after staff at a local convenience noticed him taking items from the shelves and confronted him as left the store without paying.

At 3:50 a.m. this morning Brockville Police were called to a local convenience store after the male pushed passed the employee and fled the store on foot. Responding officers who were nearby were able to locate the intoxicated male and place him under arrest in relation to the incident.

Further investigation revealed the man was also responsible for two other reported thefts to the Brockville Police Service earlier this summer and was additionally charged for those occurrences. He is also facing several charges in relation to this morning’s incident.

August 3 – 4, 2022 Media Release

Causing a Disturbance and Breaching Probation

On August 3, 2022 at about 5:30PM, the Brockville Police Service received a complaint about a 26-year-old male on King St. W., being described as out of control. Officers arrived and learned that the male was acting in an aggressive manner and almost caused a fight with an unrelated citizen on the street. Luckily, no physical confrontation occurred. Police arrested the male and took him into custody. Later, once the male was calm, he was released after being charged with causing a disturbance and failing to comply with probation.

 

Impaired Operation of vehicle and Drug Possession

On August 3, 2022 at about 11:45PM, the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a female at the Days Inn hotel in a vehicle and apparently impaired. Officers attended the area and located the 44-year-old female suspect, now across the road at the Brockville Shopping Centre parking lot. Sobriety testing was completed indicating that the female was impaired by drugs. She was arrested and taken for examination by a Drug Recognition Expert. Further testing was completed and confirmed that she was impaired by drugs. The vehicle was searched after her arrest and officers located a small quantity of cocaine. Once the investigation was complete and it was safe to do so, the female was released after being charged with operation while impaired and possession of cocaine. Her vehicle was towed and driver’s licence suspended.

 

Warrants and Drugs     

On August 4, 2022 at 1:00AM, the Brockville Police Service learned that a 34-year-old female was at The Bar on King St. W. The female was known to have a bench warrant for her arrest for failing to attend court in relation to charges of assault and breach probation. Officers attended and arrested the female. Upon searching her, officers located a quantity of cocaine. She was additionally charged with possession of cocaine and held in custody for a bail hearing. 

 

Drug Possession

On August 4, 2022 at about 10:00PM, an officer from the Brockville Police Service conducted a motor vehicle stop on North Augusta Rd., regarding equipment related violations. During the stop, one of the occupants was identified to be a 23-year-old male, known to be on house arrest conditions of a release order. He was placed under arrest. Two other occupants in the vehicle were identified to be 20 and 21-year-old males. Further investigation revealed that the occupants were in possession of a large quantity of cocaine. The other 2 males were also arrested. The outcome was as follows; the 20-year-old male was charged with possession of cocaine and released with a future court date. The 21-year-old male was charged with possession of cocaine, drive vehicle with cannabis readily available and various traffic related charges. He was also released with a future court date. The 23-year-old male was charged with failing to comply with his release order bail conditions and possession of cocaine. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

July 29 – July 31, 2022 News Release

Disturbance Leads to Trespass and Assault

On July 29, 2022 at about 4:30PM, the Brockville Police Service received information from the Via Rail staff that there was a male on the train causing issues and they were approaching 00PM, towards the Niagara Region. As the train pulled into Brockville, officers attended and spoke to staff. They identified the 56-year-old male to be the one causing problems on the train and were asking him to be removed for the comfort and safety of the other passengers as staff. The male refused to leave when directed. During the process of police removing the male under the Trespass to Property Act, the male was assaultive towards police and threatened both police and Via Rail employees. A physical altercation took place while removing the male from the train. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The male was found to be carrying a concealed knife on him at the time of the incident. He was arrested and held for bail for the offences of two counts of uttering threats, assault peace officer, resist arrest and carrying a concealed weapon.   

 

Drugs

On July 30, 2022 at about 10:30PM, the Brockville Police Service located a 34-year-old female, sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle parked at Pizza Pizza on Parkedale Ave. There were concerns that the female was impaired while occupying the vehicle. Testing was performed that determined she was not impaired, however, she was found to be in possession of crystal meth. She was arrested and charged with possession of crystal meth and released with a future court date.

Further;

On July 31, 2022 shortly after midnight, officers from the Brockville Police Service located a 52-year-old male in the area of Henry St. It was discovered that this male was in possession of cocaine. The male had lied about his identity multiple times to officers. Once officers did properly determine the identity, the male was charged with obstruct peace officer, possession of cocaine and issued a future court date.

 

Theft

On July 30, 2022 at about 5:30PM, officers from the Brockville Police Service located a male matching the description of a suspect involved in a theft that took place on July 21, 2022. The theft as described as a bicycle being stolen from out front of The Score on King St. W. Once officers identified the suspect, he attempted to evade police. Officers did eventually locate him and placed him under arrest. Further investigation confirmed the details of the previous theft and the suspects identity to be that of an 18-year-old male. The male was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and released with a future court date. 

 

Warrants

On July 30, 2022 at about 9:00PM, the Brockville Police Service learned of a 34-year-old male who was arrested by the OPP in the Morrisburg. He was arrested on a bench warrant issued out of Brockville for failing to attend court. He was transported to the Brockville Police Service where he was processed and released with a future court date. 

Further;

On August 2, 2022 at about 9:00AM, a 35-year-old male turned himself into the Brockville Police Service as he had knowledge of an outstanding arrest warrant. The warrant was for the offence of failing to comply with his undertaking conditions, as the male had contacted an individual he was to abstain from communicating with. He was taken into custody and held for a bail hearing.

 

Deceased Female found at Waste Management July 22, 2022

On Friday July 22nd, 2022 shortly after 10am the Brockville Police were contacted by staff at the Waste Management Landfill and Recycling Facility on California Ave in Brockville after an unidentified deceased female was located within their recycling sorting facility. Officers from the Brockville Police Service including members of the Criminal Investigations office attended to the site and located the female amongst a load of cardboard which had been transferred to the Brockville site from another waste transfer site in Eastern Ontario.

Officers contained the scene and vehicles involved and requested the assistance of the East Region Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Forensic Identification Unit. With the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Unit the deceased was positively identified as a female in her thirties from the Napanee-Belleville-Trenton area. Next of kin have been located and notified and at the request of the family her identity will not be released.

Yesterday at the General Campus of the Ottawa Hospital, a forensic post mortem examination was conducted with officers from the OPP Forensic Identification Unit and the Brockville Police Service in attendance. Investigators now await the completion of further tests before the post mortem report is complete.

Investigating officers are in contact with other police agencies in an effort to determine how the young women arrived at the Brockville facility. At present, there is no information to suggest there is any risk to members of the public.
