September 21 – 22, 2022 News Release

Shoplifting Leads to Arrest

On September 21, 2022, the Brockville Police Service was investigating multiple shoplifting complaints. One complaint came in from the Dollarama at Parkedale Ave. and Kent Blvd. and a second from the Canadian Tire on Parkedale Ave. A 27-year-old male, was identified to be responsible for the thefts. The male had attended the Dollarama where a minor theft had occurred and the items were quickly recovered. The male was warned for this offence at about 1:00PM and released from police custody. A short time later, at about 3:15PM, officers investigated the second theft complaint by the same male suspect at Canadian Tire. Officers arrested the male for theft under $5,000.00 after he attempted to steal tools and batteries. He was released from custody after being charged with the theft and issued a court date.    

 

Bail Violations

On September 21, 2022 at about 11:30AM, the Brockville Police Service attended a residence in the area of King St. E. regarding a disturbance. Once on scene, officers found a male and female who had been involved in a dispute. Investigation revealed that the 40-year-old female, was on release order bail conditions to reside at an address in Gananoque. It was learned that she had changed her address and moved to Brockville without seeking approval or notifying the courts, approximately two months ago. She was arrested for the offence of fail to comply with release order and held in custody for a bail hearing.   

 

Disturbance Involving Weapons

On September 22, 2022 at about 10:00AM, the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a disturbance involving multiple people in an altercation with a knife on Laurier Blvd. Officers quickly arrived on scene and arrested three males involved in the altercation. Investigation revealed that the three males were in a heated dispute. Another male in the area attempted to get involved to deescalate the situation. Once that happened, a 33-year-old male from the group brandished a knife and threatened the male attempting to assist. After further investigation, the other two males involved in the altercation were released at the scene without charges. The 33-year-old male was taken into custody. He was later charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and uttering threats. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Domestic Dispute

On September 22, 2022 at about 1:45PM, the Brockville Police Service received reports of a male and female involved in a physical altercation on Perth St. Officers attended the scene and located a female and 44-year-old male, who were involved in the dispute. Investigation revealed that the couple were in a relationship. It was learned that during the physical altercation the male had struck the female in the head and threatened to continue to assault her. It is to be noted that this male is on probation. The male was arrested and held in custody for a bail hearing for the offences of assault, utter threats and fail to comply with probation.

 

September 17 – 20, 2022 News Release

Package Thefts Leads to Arrest

On September 19, 2022 at about 11:45AM, the Brockville Police Service received a report of a theft of Amazon packages, from the step of a residence in the area of Daniel St. Two males were observed walking together and in possession of the package. Officers did locate the males and they were both arrested for the theft of the package. Further investigation revealed that one of the males was identified to be responsible for the theft. The individual responsible was a 20-year-old male and was charged with theft under $5,000.00 and fail to comply with recognizance. The second male present was released unconditionally. 

Additionally the Brockville Police Service would like to remind members of the community to make all attempts to keep their property safe. Packages and deliveries left on the front step of a residence run a risk of being stolen if not secured or left visible. It is recommended to give the delivery workers option to secure your package with some type of lockbox or securing device.

 

Disturbing the Peace Results in Male Arrested

On Sept 17, 2022 the Brockville Police Service had received multiple complaints about a 29-year-old male, causing a disturbance and apparently on drugs, in the area of Perth St. At about 6:45PM, officers actually received another complaint about this male and located him at a residence on the South end of Perth St. There, a confrontation ensued between the male and a resident. The male assaulted the resident by biting his hand and threatened him. Officers did arrest the male for the offences of assault, utter threats and fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. 

 

Weapon Possession

On September 20, 2022 at about 8:00AM, officers from the Brockville Police Service located a 24-year-old male, who was being investigated regarding a separate theft investigation. During that investigation officers located a BB gun. This individual was on multiple firearms and weapons prohibitions. He was arrested in relations to the theft investigation and held for bail for the offences of possession of a prohibited weapon, fail to comply with release order and fail to comply with probation.

September 15 – 16, 2022 News Release

Disturbance

A 36 year old Brockville area man was arrested and later released following a disturbance near a south end intersection.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. yesterday morning officers were dispatched to a call of a male screaming and waving a knife on the street near businesses. When officers arrived they located the man and arrested him for Causing a Disturbance. After searching him upon arrest, no knife was found. Investigation revealed the man was waving a vape and not a knife as originally thought and the male was later released. There was no danger to public safety.

September 14 – 15, 2022 News Release

Traffic Stop leads to arrests and drug charges

At approximately 2:45 p.m. yesterday after a Brockville Police officer noticed an RV operating in the downtown area with extensive damage to the windshield, such that the vehicle would be unsafe to operate. The RV was stopped a short distance later in a parking lot.

While speaking with the driver of the RV a female exited the RV on the passenger side. Officers recognized the 18 year old woman and a check revealed she had outstanding warrants with the OPP and Gananoque Police Service. As a result she was arrested for the outstanding warrants and taken in to custody.

While dealing with the driver and young woman, officers also recognized two other females inside the RV. One of the women, a 31 year old Brockville resident had an outstanding warrant and was on a release order with a condition to abstain from communication with the other woman a 27 year old Brockville resident.  She was subsequently arrested on the strength of the warrant and for failing to comply with her release order and taken into custody.

A search after the arrest located a quantity of hydromorphone pills, and crystal methamphetamine in the possession of the three women passengers. Also in their possession was a can of pepper spray. In addition to being arrested on the outstanding warrants they are facing drug and weapons charges.

The 54 year old man driving the RV is facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act for operating an unsafe Motor Vehicle and had the RV towed and impounded.

 

 

Domestic Charges

A 31 year old Brockville man is facing domestic charges of assault, forcible confinement and mischief after police were called to a disturbance at a north end apartment complex Wednesday night.

Just before 11:00 p.m. Brockville Police received calls from residents in the north end of a man and woman arguing in the parking lot. While on the phone with police communicators, the caller watched the man and woman leave in separate vehicles.  While officers were speaking with the caller at the scene, police communicators received a second call from a frantic female who was one of the participants in the disturbance at the apartment building. She advised communications staff she and the couple’s one year old child who was also in the car, were being followed by her common-law husband and child’s father whom she was arguing with. Communicators kept her on the phone line until she was able to drive herself safely to the police station where she was interviewed by police.

During the interview she disclosed to police an earlier incident which took place inside the apartment where she was assaulted, property damaged and prevented from leaving.  As a result her partner was located a short time later and arrested without incident and will be appearing in Brockville court for a bail hearing.

The 25 year old female victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the incident. The one year old child did not appear to suffer any injuries.

September 13 – 14, 2022 News Release

Suspicious Male in Driveway

At approximately 10:30 p.m. Brockville Police received a call from a south end Brockville resident who reported seeing an adult male whom she did not recognize in her driveway and acting strangely. She remained inside her residence and was able to see the individual via a security camera she had outside her residence.

When officers arrived, they located a 60 year old Brockville area man, who is known to police and fit the description given by the resident. As a result he was taken into custody and is now facing charges of Trespass by Night, Indecent Act, and Failing to Comply with his Probation Order.

 

Wrong house leads to Public Intoxication Charges

A 41 year old Brockville area man is facing charges of Public Intoxication after a north end family was awakened to a stranger trying to gain entry into their home at 3:30 a.m. this morning.

Residents of the north end home called police after hearing the male attempting to gain entry to their home and remained on the line with communications staff until police arrived. On arrival at the residence, police located the man obviously under the influence of alcohol. They learned he thought he was at a friend’s house and was attempting to gain entry to the residence using a set of keys he had. He was arrested for Public Intoxication and conveyed to the Brockville Police Service, where family members were contacted to come and pick up the man. He was released from custody with a Provincial Offences notice and charged with Public Intoxication.

September 12 – 13, 2022 News Release

It was a busy September Monday for the Brockville Police with 50 calls for service over the 24 hour period which included four arrests under the Criminal Code and one apprehension under the Mental Health Act.

 

Domestic Charges

At approximately 10 a.m. Monday morning Brockville Police were contacted to attend a north end residence for a domestic disturbance complaint. While at the residence, investigating officers spoke with the victim who disclosed other domestic related incidents which had occurred earlier this year between the couple.

As a result of the disclosure, attending officers arrested a 39 year old Brockville area man for domestic assault and mischief in relation to those previous occurrences.

 

Breach of Release Conditions

Brockville Police were called to the gazebo at Hardy Park at approximately 10:30 yesterday morning to assist EMS on a report of a male passed and unresponsive. When officers arrived, they learned EMS attended and was no longer required and the 22 year old man walking away from the park with a female whom he is on a release order not  to communicate with. As a result he was arrested for breach of his release order and brought into custody pending a bail hearing later today.

 

Traffic Stop leads to Suspended Driver charges

At 3:20 a.m. this morning Brockville Police stopped a black Mercedes travelling at a high rate of speed through central Brockville for speeding. The driver identified himself as a 39 year old Brockville area man and it was learned he was a suspended driver.

As a result, he was charged with speeding as well as driving while under suspension. In addition the vehicle he was operating was towed from the scene and impounded for 45 days.

September 9 – 12, 2022 News Release

Officers had a busy weekend responding to 123 calls for services, resulting in eight Criminal Code Arrests, two arrest warrants executed, and three apprehensions under the Mental Health Act.

 

Male facing Drug Charges

A 21 year old Brockville man is facing drug charges after police discovered a large quantity of drugs in a duffle bag while investigating an incident at a north end apartment.

Early Friday morning, Brockville Police were called to an apartment in the city’s north end on another matter. During the course of their investigation, a duffle bag was located and turned over to the police belonging to the 21 year old man who was no longer at the apartment. Located inside the duffle bag were large quantities of Xanax and Methamphetamine (Speed) tablets, 19 grams of MDMA (ecstasy), LSD stamps, and illicit Cannabis.

As a result the man is now facing 4 charges of Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking and is being held in custody on these and other offences pending a bail hearing.

 

Suspicious Person Complaint leads to Drug Charges

At approximately 7:30 a.m. Friday morning Brockville Police were called to a Community Park in the City’s west end on a report of some adult males causing damage to a fence in the park and yelling and screaming.

On arrival, officers located a 50 year old Brockville man in the park who was wanted on outstanding warrants for Breach of Probation and Arson in relation to a July incident. While searching the male upon arrest officers located a quantity of Crystal Meth and as a result he also facing additional drug charges.

 

Theft from unlocked vehicle

A 38 year old Brockville man is facing theft charges after he was caught returning to the same vehicle he had stolen from earlier in the morning.

At 3:10 a.m. Saturday morning, Brockville Police responded to a theft from a vehicle complaint in the downtown corridor where the victim reported his wallet and identification were taken from the unlocked vehicle.  Officers attended to the area and were searching the downtown, when at 6:30 a.m. they received a call the same male had returned to the vehicle in a different location in the south end of Brockville. This time the man was located and arrested for theft.

 

Knife located after Shoplifting Arrest

Yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received a call from a north end store of a male shoplifter who had fled the store with a full shopping cart full of merchandise and was refusing to stop. When officers arrived they located the 24 year old Brockville man a short distance away, and he still refused to stop and comply with the responding officers requests.

As a result the male was taken to the ground, and placed in handcuffs and searched as part of the arrest. A knife was located in the man’s  front pocket and seized.

The male is now facing charges of theft, breaching his probation and a breach of his release order.

September 6 – 8, 2022 News Release

Arson Investigation – Follow-up

The Brockville Police Service has continued the arson investigation into the multiple dumpster fires from September 3, 2022. We are now reporting that a 30-year-old, local male, has been identified and arrested in relation to this incident. He has been released with a future court date for seven counts of arson. We would also like to thank those from the community who became involved and assisted in this incident. Without your involvement and willingness to work together, these crimes would not have been solved.

 

Impaired Operation

On September 6, 2022 at about 8:00AM, the Brockville Police Service received a call for service in the area of Kent Blvd., regarding an apparent unconscious female in the driver seat of a running vehicle. Officers arrived and located a 59-year-old female as described. Investigation revealed that the female had consumed multiple pills and was under the influence of drugs. She was placed under arrest for impaired operation. She was then required to perform testing by a Drug Recognition Expert and it was confirmed that she was impaired by drugs. Her licence was suspended, vehicle towed and charged with operation while impaired by drugs. She was issued a future court date.    

 

Domestic Disturbance

On September 7, 2022 at about 1:30AM, the Brockville Police Service received information of a domestic disturbance in the area of Church St. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to the individuals involved. While officers were investigating it was learned that the 37-year-old male in the relationship had struck his girlfriend twice during their dispute. The female’s injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The male was placed under arrest for the offence of assault. He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

 

Domestic Disturbance

On September 7, 2022 at about 7:00PM, the Brockville Police Service received information about a domestic disturbance that took place on Kensington Pkwy the day previous. Investigation revealed that on September 6, 2022, a 21-year-old male was engaged in a dispute with his female partner. It was determined that during the dispute the male had assaulted the female by striking her, striking her with a object, shoving her into a wall, threatening her life, throwing her to the ground and choking her and forcibly confining her as he would not allow her to leave. He had attempted to lock her in the residence. The male also began threatening to kill family members of the female if she made any attempts to leave the residence. The female was not seriously injured in the incident however, there is a significant safety concern for the victim and her family.  Once the evidence was gathered, officers did locate the 21-year-old male. He was placed under arrest for the offences of two counts of forcible confinement, two counts of assault, two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of uttering threats and fail to comply with probation. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Further;

On September 8, 2022 at about 5:30PM, the Brockville Police Service learned that the 21-year-old male above, had breached his release order bail conditions. He did so after being released from custody once completing his bail hearing. He was on a condition to abstain from being within 50 meters of the victim’s residence. It was discovered that he failed to comply with that condition. It was also found that he had made his way into the residence of a neighbour in the area and threatened them as well. The male was arrested and held for another bail hearing for the offences of fail to comply with release order, uttering threats and unlawfully in a dwelling.

 

 

September 2 – 9, 2022 Statistics

Weeks Statistics

Over the last week from September 2 – September 9, the Brockville Police Service received 306 calls for service. While responding to those calls, there were a total of 14 arrests and three mental health apprehensions. As a result of investigations there were 39 Criminal Charges laid. There has been a high amount of criminal charges laid in the past approximate two weeks. To do these properly, it is very time consuming. These demands take away from other tasks that could be accomplished to better our community. Brockville Police Service is doing all we can to work with our community to ensure safety and security.

September 2 – 4, 2022 News Release

Male with a Knife Leads to Various Charges

On September 2, 2022 at about 12:30PM, the Brockville Police Service received a call of a 34-year-old male, in the area of Laurier Blvd. and Windsor Dr., in possession of a knife. It was described that the male was exhibiting bizarre and dangerous behaviour as he was shouting at people, stabbing trees, kicking and swinging the knife at vehicles on the roadway as they passed by. Officers began arriving on scene. The male approached the officer and struck the cruiser with his fist holding the knife before running into his residence in the area. Officers quickly set up containment on the property. When a safe opportunity presented itself, the male was arrested at the rear of the residence. Luckily, he was taken into custody without anyone being injured. He was held for a bail hearing for the offences of assault with a weapon, assault a peace officer with a weapon, uttering threats, possess weapons for a dangerous purpose and two counts of mischief under $5,000.00. I cannot express how well the responding officers performed in this high risk situation. Their actions and focus on mitigating the risk for everyone involved should be recognized. This was one dangerous situation that ended up with the most positive outcome possible.

 

Bail Condition Violation

On September 4, 2022 at about 1:00AM, officers from the Brockville Police Service were on patrol in the area of Water St. and Henry St. While there, they observed a 60-year-old male. It was found that the male was on a release order with a bail condition of a curfew. His curfew stipulated that he was to be within his residence between the hours of 10:00PM and 6:00AM. At that time, the male was placed under arrest. He was searched and officers also located a quantity of methamphetamine. He was held for a bail hearing for the offences of fail to comply with release order and possession of methamphetamine.

 

Suspicious Incident

On September 4, 2022 at about 8:00PM, the Brockville Police Service received information of a concerning incident that took place in the area of Laurier Blvd. and Kensington Pkwy. Information came in via a witness that said two teens were seen chasing another teen in that area. The two teens were in possession of a conducted energy weapon, often referred to as a taser or stun gun. The teen who was being chased was yelling in an attempt to draw attention and have the police notified. Once this happened, the two suspects discontinued the pursuit and fled. The suspects are described as wearing face coverings or masks, hoody’s (one black and one red in colour). The victim was wearing a white sweater and no other descriptors were provided.
