April 7 – 8, 2016 Incidents

Break and Enter

On April 7th at 8:04 am, Brockville Police responded to a break and enter at the Recorder on Parkedale Avenue.

Sometime overnight, unknown culprits broke into the building removing items and entered a safe within the business. Staff notified Police when reporting for work in the morning. The building was absent of alarms or video footage so the exact time of the crime is unknown at this point in the investigation.

Brockville Police Identification Unit attended for possible fingerprints or any evidence left behind and the investigation is ongoing.

 

Mischief

On April 7th at 12:40 pm., Brockville Police attended one of our high schools for a mischief complaint.

A 16 year old, male student, damaged a wall in the vice principal’s office. The young man was charged with mischief and released on conditions with a future court date.

 

Arrest

On April 7th at 1:21 pm., Brockville Police arrested a 20 year old, Smiths Falls man, in relation to the home invasion reported on March 21st.

The man attended the Police station at the request of the investigating Officer. Charges including, assault causing bodily harm, forcible entry, assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous to the public, were laid against him. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Impaired Driving

On April 7th at 2:31 pm., Brockville Police received a complaint from staff at the LCBO on Parkedale Avenue.

They were concerned about a female customer and her ability to drive. Police had obtained a plate number and learned the owner of the vehicle lived east of the city. Officers headed out the second concession and located the vehicle and driver on route home.

A local, 56 year old female, was arrested and charged with impaired driving. At the station, a second charge of driving while over the legal limit was laid after breath samples were obtained. The breath readings were roughly three times the legal limit.

She was released later with a future court date. Her licence was automatically suspended for ninety days and her vehicle impounded for seven days.

 

Community Service

On April 7th at 7:28 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end street to check on the wellbeing of a man.

People reported him staggering in the street and Officers noted he was under the influence of an unknown drug and unable to look after himself. The out of Province subject was taken to local hospital and admitted for proper treatment. Police learned he had been involved in a motor vehicle accident earlier in the day on the 401. That incident was being investigated by Provincial Police.

At the time of his apprehension, the 57 year old, had a quantity of narcotics and cash on his person.

 

Community Service

On April 7th at 10:18 pm., Brockville Police attended one of our group homes in the city to assist mental health staff.

A local, 27 year old female, was not following conditions of her treatment. Officers escorted the woman to hospital for appropriate follow up

 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle

On April 8th at 12:26 am, Brockville Police Officers checked on a parked vehicle in the conservation area on Centennial Road.

The vehicle was reported stolen from Quebec and the ignition had been tampered with. The original agency was notified and the vehicle was towed. There was no one in the area of the vehicle at the time.

 

Suspicious Person

On April 8th at 2:08 am, Brockville Police attended the Hydro-One lot on Front Avenue for a possible theft.

Their alarm company reported seeing a man inside the lot near the perimeter fencing. Officers entered the lot with an employee but could not locate anyone or anything out of place. Police will wait until Hydro investigates further to see if any offence actually took place.

 

Fraud

On April 8th at 2:42 am, Brockville Police took a fraud complaint from a cab driver.

The complainant had picked up a fare in the Kingston area. The local, 39 year old female, failed to pay her bill when arriving in Brockville. She was charged with transportation fraud and released at the scene with a future court date.

 

Warrant

Early in the morning of April 8th, members of the Brockville Police Service attended Belleville to arrest a man native to the city until a couple years ago.

Belleville Police dealt with the male in one of their bars. The 32 year old, had warrants from here related to drug offences, domestic incidents and failing to attend different court imposed dates. He was brought back to Brockville and will appear in bail court.

 

April 4 – 5, 2016 Incidents

Weapons Offences

On April 4th at 5:57 pm, Brockville Police took a complaint of a confrontation on a south end street involving a knife.

A local, 50 year old male, stopped his truck and got out to confront three youths walking on the roadway. Two of the youths walked away from the man but the third teen pulled a knife from his waist area and pointed it at the older male before leaving the scene.

Officers arrested and charged the local, 17 year old, after investigation revealed his identity. He is now charged with assault with a weapon and weapons dangerous to the public. The youth was released on conditions and issued a future court date.

 

Warrant

On April 5th at 1:28 pm, Brockville Police attended the town of Gananoque to pick up a prisoner. Our Service held a warrant for the arrest of the local, 33 year old male. Officers in Gananoque observed the male while he was a passenger in a cab and were aware of the warrant.

In early November of 2015, Brockville Police investigated a domestic assault complaint in which the man was wanted for assault, forcible confinement and breach of probation. The accused was charged at that time but his surety had removed themselves at court as the male was not abiding by his release conditions. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Thefts

On April 5th at 1:58 pm, Brockville Police attended a north end department store for a theft complaint.

A local, 45 year old male, was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.00. He was released at the scene with a future court date.

At 3:40 pm., Brockville Police attended another north end store for a theft complaint.

A local, 19 year old male, was arrested for the theft. However, he was also on a probation order as well as court conditions for outstanding charges yet to be dealt with. The young man now faces charges of theft, breach of probation and breach of the conditions of his undertaking. He was released on further conditions with a future court date.

 

Community Service

On April 5th at 3:42 pm., Brockville Police attended a north end apartment complex to apprehend a local man.

The 64 year old, had a medical order issued for his attendance to local hospital. People close to the man were concerned about his mental health and sought the order so he could receive appropriate care. Officers escorted the man to hospital without incident and left him in the care of medical staff.

April 4, 2016 Incidents

Trespass to Property

On April 4th at 9:25 am, Brockville Police attended one of our high schools for a trespass complaint.

A local, 17 year old youth, was observed on the property which is in contravention of a trespass letter that was served on him in the past. The young man was also on two different probation orders with conditions to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. When located, he faces charges of breach of probation and trespass to property.

The investigation is ongoing.

 

Well Being Check

On April 4th at 10:28 am., Brockville Police received a request to check on the wellbeing of a local female.

The 33 year old, left a message with a friend indicating self harm. Officers located the woman and she was taken to hospital. Medical staff decided to admit her for her own safety.

 

Theft

On April 4th at 1:34 pm., Brockville Police took a theft complaint in the McDonald’s parking lot on Parkedale Avenue.

A local female had her vehicle entered while in the restaurant and some personal items were stolen from her unlocked vehicle. Police received a similar complaint at 3:11 pm., in the Walmart parking lot. In that incident, a car seat was removed from the vehicle and some items from the glovebox. It is believed the incidents are related.

The investigation of both incidents is ongoing.

 

Arrest

On April 5th at 12:18 am., Brockville Police were contacted by the Ottawa Police after a man turned himself in at their station. The local, 25 year old, was wanted by our Service for a domestic assault, reported in late February.

In that investigation, a local female reported several assaults, mischiefs and a choking incident while she was involved in a relationship with the man. Brockville Police subsequently had issued a warrant for his arrest. The accused was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

April 1 – 2, 2016 Incidents

Traffic Complaint

On April 1st at 4:57 pm., Brockville Police were travelling eastbound on Parkedale Avenue when another eastbound vehicle cut them off almost causing an accident.

Officers spoke with the local, 70 year old, female driver, and felt she was in need of attention in regards to her mental health. She was taken to hospital where after an evaluation by medical staff, she was admitted for appropriate care.

Police did not lay charges in the incident.

 

Shoplifting

On April 1st at 8:38 pm., Brockville Police attended a box store on Parkedale Avenue for a theft complaint.

A local, 29 year old female, had been caught stealing several hundred dollars worth of items. The woman was also serving a sentence in the community for prior theft convictions from late last year. She was arrested and charged with theft and breaching her conditional sentence.

She was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Unlawfully at Large

On April 1st at 9:31 pm., Brockville Police attended the Brockville Jail in regards to a young man who failed to show for his weekend sentence.

The 21 year old, from the Joyceville area, was to report every Friday night to serve weekends until his sentence was completed. There is now a warrant for his arrest for being unlawfully at large.

 

Public Intoxication

On April 1st at 7:36 pm., Brockville Police received a complaint of a young man, intoxicated, being refused service at a downtown retail store. He fled the area before Officers arrived.

Police received another call about the male at 8:45 pm., and he was finally located in the Tim Horton’s on William Street at 9:32 pm. The man was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and observation.

On April 2nd at 9:54 am., hospital staff contacted Police as he was now being discharged. Officers arrested the local, 25 year old, on an outstanding warrant. He was released soon after on conditions and given a future court date.

 

Assault

On April 1st at 10:13 pm., Brockville Police attended a downtown bar for an assault complaint.

Two local females were assaulted by two men after a verbal dispute turned physical. The two victims received minor injuries and did not require medical treatment. The two men had insulted staff within the business and the female victims had intervened on their behalf.

The two males, aged 57 and 53 years of age reside in the Prescott area. Both were arrested and charged with assault. They are now both on conditions of release with a future court date.

 

Assisting EMS

On April 2nd at 1:56 pm., Brockville Police responded to St. Vincent hospital on Garden Street to assist ambulance staff.

A local, 54 year old male, was exhibiting violent behaviour and staff wanted Police help in transporting the patient to the Brockville General Hospital. Officers completed the escort as requested.

 

Public Intoxication

On April 2nd at 10:30 pm., Brockville Police received a complaint of a young man running down the street in the area of Perth and George Street.

Police located the local, 21 year old, who had obviously consumed lots of alcohol. For his own safety, he was arrested for public intoxication. He was released with a fine when sober.

Missing Person Update

Update –  Jodi-Leigh Lloyd has been located at her residence.  She is of good health.

 

 

The Brockville Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating Jodi-Leigh Lloyd who was last seen by friends on Monday. She is described as 5’7″-5’8″ tall, approximately 145lbs, medium build, with bleach blonde hair. At this time we have no description of clothing she may have been wearing when she left.

March 31, 2016 News

Domestic Dispute

On March 31st at 5:00 pm., Brockville Police attended a domestic dispute at a south end apartment building.

A local, 17 year old male, was upset after a break up with his girlfriend.  Police noted the young man had been drinking and were concerned for his safety.  He was arrested to prevent a further breach of the peace and released unconditionally at a later time.

 

Suspicious Vehicle

On March 31st at 9:45 pm., Brockville Police received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the area of Central Avenue and Park Street.

The male driver of a white van was speaking to a child in that area. The child returned home.

March 30 – 31, 2016 News

Home Invasion Arrest

On March 30th in the morning hours, Brockville Police arrested a man in relation to the home invasion on March 21st.

The 22 year old, Smiths Falls resident, has been charged with assault with a weapon, forcible entry, assault causing bodily harm, criminal harassment, uttering threats, possession of a weapon and failing to comply with a recognizance. He was held in custody and will appear in bail court.

 

Public Intoxication

On March 31st at 12:32 am, Brockville Police responded to a south end intersection after a report of a man falling down.

The local, 46 year old, fell as a result of being intoxicated. He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries then spent the remainder of the evening in a cell at the Police station. He was released with a fine when sober.

 

Shoplifting

On March 30th at 11:28 am, Brockville Police responded to a north end box store for an attempt theft complaint.

An unknown male was confronted trying to leave the store with several thousand dollars worth of video games. He left the merchandise behind and fled the area. The investigation is ongoing into establishing his identity.

March 24 – 28, 2016 News

Theft

On March 24th at 9:14 am, Brockville Police attended a north end box store for a theft complaint.

A 45 year old female from the Ottawa area, had stolen over a thousand dollars in merchandise. She had fled the store prior to Police arrival. The accused was already on probation for similar offences and is currently charged with theft as well. Her release conditions included not to attend the same store she had stolen from.

Police are now looking to arrest the woman for charges of theft, breach of probation and breach of her outstanding release conditions.

 

Community Service

On March 24th at 2:10 pm., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment building to check on the health of a local, 33 year old female.

The Brockville Police enjoy a community partnership with Lanark Leeds and Grenville Addictions and Mental Health (LLGAMH). Our Community Services Officer along with members of the organization attend homes to check on clients of the agency.

On this date, the female was having difficulties and was taken to hospital for appropriate care.

 

Assist Ambulance

On March 24th at 8:10 pm., Brockville Police attended a downtown apartment building to assist ambulance staff with identifying a male party.

It appeared the male had fallen down a flight of stairs and was now unresponsive. Police identified the man as a local, 58 year old. The male was taken to local hospital and eventually to Kingston General. At the time of this release, Police are unaware of his current condition.

 

Unwanted Person

On March 26th at 12:12 am, Brockville Police responded to an unwanted person complaint at a south end residence.

A 39 year old male, from the Smiths Falls area, attended his ex-brother in law’s residence and entered through a side door to use the bathroom. He was escorted from the residence before Police arrived and was headed back to his residence.

Police asked another agency to check on his mental health and learned the male had been involved in a single motor vehicle accident north of Brockville. He was being treated for minor injuries and there was no criminal charges stemming from our incident.

 

Neighbour Dispute

On March 26th at 8:27 am., Brockville Police attended a south end apartment complex for a neighbour dispute.

Residents of two apartments began banging on walls connecting the units and yelling back and forth. The neighbours have ongoing issues regarding noise levels. One of the residents, a 26 year old male, attended to the other apartment and kicked in the front door then left the area. Officers charged the man with mischief for damage to the door. He was released at the scene and issued a future court date.

 

Community Service

On March 26th at 5:56 pm., Brockville Police began searching for a local, 27 year old man after he informed family members of his intention to harm himself.

After searching several locations, Officers located the young man. He was apprehended and taken to hospital for appropriate care.

 

Impaired Driving

On March 26th at 10:18 pm., Brockville Police received a complaint of a male party acting strangely in a gas station parking lot in the north end of the city.

Witnesses reported he was video recording others and noticed his speech was slurred when he was asked about his actions. The man left the area but was stopped by Officers nearby in his vehicle.

The local, 26 year old, failed a roadside alcotest after providing a breath sample. He was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while over the legal limit. The man was checked out by medical staff at hospital prior to his release after complaining of anxiety issues. His vehicle was impounded and he now has a future court date.

 

Community Service

On March 26th at 11:07 pm., Brockville Police received a request from an outside agency to check on the health of a local female.

The 33 year old, had reported to a family member that she had taken pills and was looking to harm herself. Police attended her residence in the south end of the city and spoke to her. It was determined that she was in need of medical attention and Officers apprehended her and she was taken to hospital for appropriate care.

 

Sexual Assault

On March 27th at 12:09 pm., Brockville Police attended the Tim Hortons on William Street in regards to a sexual assault.

Police received two complaints of a male pinching their buttocks while standing in line within the restaurant. Both victims are female.

Officers arrested a local 66 year old male on March 29th.   He has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

Bail Violation

On March 28th at 10:29 am, Brockville Police received a complaint regarding a bail violation.

A local, 18 year old man, was released on conditions for outstanding charges. One of the conditions involved residing with another family member and abiding by a curfew. The family member reported the accused did not come home at all on Sunday night.

Police are now seeking the individual for breaching his recognizance, probation order and community supervision order. He will face a bail hearing when located.

House Fire

House Fire

On March 22nd at 4:42 pm., Brockville Police responded to a residential fire on Pearl Street East.

Officers on general patrol were flagged down by residents who indicated a grease fire had started in the kitchen of the home.  Officers put out the fire and one of them suffered a flash burn in the process.  Paramedics treated the Officer at the scene for minor injuries.  No one else was injured in the fire and the damage was limited to the kitchen area.

March 21, 2016 Incident

Mischief

On March 21st at 8:30 am., Brockville Police attended a north end residence for a mischief complaint.

Overnight, unknown culprit(s) smashed the window out of the vicitm’s vehicle while parked in the driveway.  Police took a similar complaint at 11:12 am., at another north end residence.  These incidents took place in the Beley Street and Colonel Douglas areas.
