Youth arrested on outstanding warrant
A 16 year old Brockville youth was arrested yesterday afternoon after he turned himself in at Brockville Police headquarters for an outstanding warrant he had for charges of Uttering Threats and Breaching his Probation.
At approximately 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon officers with the Brockville Police Service and the Youth Probation office contacted the youth over the phone about the outstanding warrant and convinced him to come to the Brockville Police Service to turn himself in. He then attended to the front desk area and surrendered himself without incident.
As a result of the incident he was taken into custody and held at a youth facility and will appear in Brockville court to face the charges on a future date.
Mental Health and Well Being checks
Brockville Police were kept busy checking on the well-being of several residents yesterday as a result of calls from concerned family and friends.
Yesterday morning shortly after 10 a.m. the mother of a 26 year old Brockville man attended to the Brockville Police Service with concerns for the well-being of her son. She had earlier been to the court and obtained an order for her son to be examined by a doctor because of his health. As a result officers accompanied the mother to the residence and apprehended the young man and conveyed him to the Brockville General Hospital without incident for examination.
The Upper Canada School Board contacted police yesterday morning shortly after 11 a.m. when a young elementary school student had not shown up for class yesterday morning and the school had not heard from the parents. The school had tried several times to reach the parents by phone but were unsuccessful. Officers were able to locate the student and his mother in good health in Brockville and report back to the school.
At 11:30 a.m. yesterday morning, dispatchers with the Brockville Police spoke with a British Columbia man who had been unable to reach his 61 year old for over a week. He was concerned because they normally spoke daily and it was unusual not to hear from her. Officers were able to locate the woman at the 1000 Islands Mall in good health and pass on the message to contact her son.
Just before noon yesterday morning, Brockville Police were called by a friend of a 31 year old Brockville man to check on his well-being after he made concerning comments to his girlfriend. Officers were able to reach him by phone and speak with him and eventually learn of his location and ensure he was safe and that he would be staying with family for the remainder of the day.
And at 9:50 p.m. last evening Brockville offices were contacted and asked to check on the condition of a young teenage girl who had posted some concerning pictures on her social media account. Officers located the young girl at her residence and through the assistance of community partners were able to provide assistance to the girl and her family.
Minor Incident at SLC Picket
Just before 11 a.m. yesterday morning officers were called to the main entrance of St. Lawrence College after receiving a call of an aggressive driver at the picket.
A driver had become frustrated at being held up at the picket on several occasions while dropping off a family member. After speaking with those involved, the matter was quickly resolved.
Officers with the Brockville Police had previously met with picketers at the site and have provided information to them on what is a lawful information picket. So far during the strike, there have been no serious incidents and all sides have been respectful throughout.
