Police Week – May 15 – 21, 2016

May 15 to 21 has been designated as Police Week in Ontario. Police Week started in 1970 and it is observed every year in May to coincide with Peace Officers Memorial Day, which is recognized internationally on May 15.

This year’s theme, Discover Policing for Safer Communities, provides an opportunity for communities to discover the many ways police are working to keep their community safe. All citizens are asked to take an active role in helping create a safer community.

Safe communities are not achieved by police doing their jobs alone. We believe in community policing. It’s what we do. For community policing to have a positive impact on our communities, we need individuals, families, businesses, and community groups to work together.
