RIDE Check leads to multiple arrests

A Brockville Police Service RIDE Program conducted late Saturday night resulted in the arrest of four people.

A 56 year old Texas man found himself in custody after officers believed he was under the influence of alcohol while operating his motor vehicle. After speaking to police, the man failed to comply with the officer’s roadside demand was arrested for Refusing a Breath Sample. He was held in custody to ensure his appearance in Court.

In an unrelated vehicle check, a 28 year old man, a 22 year old man and a 22 year old woman were charged with possession of a controlled substance. After speaking with officers at the check, a strong odor of marihuana was detected coming from within the vehicle. All three vehicle occupants were subsequently placed under arrest, and the marihuana was seized.

The 22 year old man was also found to be on court ordered conditions, which included a curfew. He is further charged with Breach of Recognizance. He was held in custody pending a bail hearing. The other two vehicle occupants were released with a future court date.

 

Intoxicated male arrested

Excess consumption of alcohol left a 24 year old Ottawa man in police custody early Sunday morning. Police were called to a North end hotel after the man had passed out in the hotel lobby. Police were unsuccessful in obtaining enough information from the man to locate any friends or family and as a result he was arrested for being intoxicated in a common area.

He was released when sober and issued a ticket under the Liquor Licence Act.

 

Man arrested with stolen property

A 25 year old Ottawa man was arrested early Sunday morning after being found in possession of a stolen kayak.

Police were called to a South end residence shortly before 6am after the homeowner had located a male in her garage. The man had fled prior to police arrival but a kayak was noted to be missing. A short time later, while checking the area, police observed a male with the stolen kayak. After a short foot pursuit officers were successful in taking the man into custody for Possession of Stolen Property.

The 25 year old man was also found to be on court ordered conditions, which included a curfew. He was further charged with Breach of Recognizance and was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
