Assistance to Victims

The Brockville Police Service has observed discussions around the Province regarding police clearance of incidents and assistance to victims. We want our community to understand that the Brockville Police Service takes assisting victims very seriously. The police service is proud to work with partners such as the Assault Response and Care Centre of Leeds and Grenville, Interval House, Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville, Victim Witness Assistance Program and Family and Children Services, to name a few.

The Brockville Police Service continually reviews its policies and procedures relating to the investigation and clearing of all incidents. Incidents that are reported are investigated thoroughly and often with the assistance of our community partners. Reports that are submitted by officers are reviewed by a supervisor before the investigation is concluded.

We recognize the need for training and recently had officers attend training with Dr. Lori Haskell, a leading professional in trauma and sexual violence. Effective communication between investigators, community partners and victims of violence and sexual violence is paramount.

I want to thank those community members who have contacted us regarding this issue. As policing trends change we will change with them. I encourage everyone to take a moment and visit www.brockvillepolice.com and review our 2015-2017 business plan for information on our service and our work with assisting victims.

Please contact Chief Fraser if you have any questions.
