Domestic Dispute leads to arrest and charge

On the 23rd of May, 2017 a 34 year old woman and resident of Brockville was arrested and charged with one count of assault with a weapon.  Police attended to the woman’s residence located in the south end of the city where it was learned that she and her common law partner engaged in an argument.  The situation escalated and it is alleged that the woman threw and struck the complainant / victim in the head with an aerosol can causing minor injury.  The woman was released with a future court date.

Weapons / Drug charges

On the 23rd of May, 2017 police attended the area of a south end apartment building for reports of someone discharging a BB or Pellet gun at both cars and people.  Police could initially hear the shots and eventually observed one of the responsible subjects leaning out of the window with pistol in hand.  The man was directed to drop the pistol and complied with police direction.  Police proceeded to further investigate the incident and upon entering the apartment observed, in plain view, drug paraphernalia.  As a result of the incident, 3 Brockville men (21, 24 and 28 years of age) were charged with various weapons and drug offences under the criminal code.  All were released with future court dates.

The Brockville Police Service is pleased to report that during the holiday weekend ranging from Friday evening at 07:00 pm to Tuesday morning at 07:00 am we attended 78 calls for service. 

Some of the calls we investigated included more instances of unlocked motor vehicles where the various contents were stolen, such as wallets and purses.  Please be sure to keep your vehicles locked and to refrain from leaving important things inside of it.  There are individuals who are making their slippery way around your properties in the night. 

Warrants

Early in the morning on the 20th of May a local male known to police was observed as a rear passenger of a motor vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle and arrested him on his outstanding warrants. A search of the subject revealed a small quantity of drugs on the subject for which he was also charged for. He was released with a future court date.

Suspicious Person

On Saturday morning police received several calls about a male walking on Parkedale Ave. wearing a spiderman suit with two large swords on his back. Officers quickly tracked down the suspect who was in fact “Deadpool” who was in town attending Comic Con event at the 1000 Islands Mall. Case closed.

Kaiden Sturgeon is the recipient of this year’s Cops Care for Kids award presented annually by the Brockville Police Association to assist families in the Brockville with young children suffering with a serious medical condition.

Kaiden is the 2 year old son of Kristen Sturgeon and Bradley Harper of Brockville who suffers from a condition known as Sandoff Disease which requires him to travel frequently to appointments out of town. In an effort to assist the family, The Brockville Police Association presented a cheque for $3 500 to the purchase of 2013 GMC Terrain from St. Lawrence Automobiles on Highway 29 Brockville. Owner Darryl Amoroso also assisted by donating to the family toward the purchase of the vehicle.

The Cops Care for Kids program has now been running for six years local. The fund raising campaign is designed to assist young families of children under the age of 16 years who have a serious medical condition or affliction and reside locally. When this year’s fund raising campaign was taking place, Kaiden was an extremely popular nominee from members of the public who wrote in to support him.

Domestic Disturbance

Brockville Police continue to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance which occurred in the early morning hours Friday on Park Street near Centeen Park.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. the Brockville Police Service Communications Centre received several 9-1-1 calls of a girl fighting with her boyfriend near a vehicle by the park. The female victim reportedly left the vehicle walking away and was knocked to the ground by her boyfriend after he exited the car to chase her. The couple continued to struggle until an unidentified witness from a nearby building yelled at the man, who then stopped fighting with the female and left in the waiting car.

The vehicle is an SUV type, possibly a Chrysler Pacifica, last observed leaving the area of Park and Water Streets.

Officers would like to speak with anyone in the area who may have seen or heard the altercation. Foot pursuit leads to arrest for Theft and Outstanding Warrants

A 19 year old Brockville man is in custody this morning following a short foot pursuit late yesterday afternoon on Edgewood Avenue.

A citizen flagged down a Brockville Police vehicle in the area of Ormond Street and Edgewood Avenue reporting he observed a suspect riding a bicycle he had just reported stolen to the police and pointed out the male. Officers responding recognized the male and knew of several outstanding warrants for him and the foot pursuit began and continued through several back yards and over fences and sheds before he was eventually arrested.

The 19 year old man now faces charges of Possession of Stolen Property, in addition to the outstanding warrants he faces for Breach his Probation order and violating his release conditions. He will be appearing in Brockville court this afternoon for a Bail Hearing.

Police Week Activities

This morning a Brockville Police Services Community Volunteer will be visiting elementary schools in his uniform performing for the children and singing songs in conjunction with the Canada 150 celebration.

This afternoon, Brockville Police Services members will be meeting with our community justice partners to discuss issues which may arise during the court process locally.

Lock it or Lose It

As the nicer weather and long weekend approaches, people will be travelling, visiting friends and family and be out later in the evening.

The Brockville Police Service would like to pass on a few safety tips to protect yourself from being a victim of theft from your vehicle.

Always lock all doors to your vehicle and remove all of your valuables from inside the vehicle which may be attractive to would be thieves. Place all recently purchased merchandise out of view from would be thieves and preferably inside. Completely close all car windows and park your vehicle in well-lit and high traffic areas. By applying these simple tips your risk of theft would decrease dramatically

The Cops Care for Kids Campaign is a program designed to assist area families with children between the ages of 3 and 16, who have a serious medical condition or affliction and reside locally in an attempt to bring joy and create special memories at a difficult time.

Motor Vehicle Collision leads to Stunt Driving Charge

A 21 year old Brockville man is facing Stunt Driving charges under the Highway Traffic Act following a Motor Vehicle Collision yesterday morning.

At approximately 9:30 yesterday morning Brockville Police were called to a Kensington Pkwy residence on a report of an orange Mustang on the front lawn of a residence. Officers attended to the area and learned the driver of the vehicle had lost control and skidded across two yards before coming to a rest. In addition to the property damage the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.

The driver had his licence suspended for 7 days for the Stunt Driving charge and faces a fine of between $2000 and $10 000 dollars or a term of imprisonment for six months or less for a first time offence. He will appear in Provincial Offences court on a future date.

Handgun Incident on William Street Overpass

Early yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received several calls of a man on the Willian Street overpass with a handgun waving at vehicles passing by and then concealing it in his belt.

Officers throughout the city responded to the call on the overpass near the William Street Tim Horton’s and located the suspect, a 24 year old Brockville man, on the overpass. Officers on the scene performed a “high risk” arrest due to the nature of the call and observed the weapon in the rear of the man’s pants. During the arrest the man threw the weapon to the side and continued to struggle with officers until he was finally handcuffed.

The young man was taken to the Brockville General Hospital as a precautionary measure, and the officers suffered only very minor injuries. The firearm recovered was found to be a pellet pistol. The 24 year old will be facing several weapons related charges and appear at a future court date.

Brockville and Kingston Officers execute drug Warrant

A Kingston 32-year-old man and 32-year-old woman, and a Brockville 29-year-old man have all been arrested in relation to cocaine trafficking.

In March 2017, members of the Kingston Police Drug Enforcement Unit began investigating the Kingston man. On May 16, 2017 the Kingston man and woman travelled together to Brockville. The two attend the residence of the Brockville man where they obtained a packaged believed to contain cocaine.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. the Kingston man and woman were stopped by Kingston Police on Montreal Street at the 401. During a search of the vehicle, officers located the package containing a large quantity of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value over $100,000.

The Kingston man and woman were both arrested and transported to Kingston Police headquarters where they were held to attend a bail hearing.

Following the arrests of the Kingston man and woman, search warrants were executed at their residence in Kingston. Officers seized additional cocaine, Canadian currency and various drug paraphernalia. A second search warrant was executed by members of Brockville Police and Kingston Police at the Brockville residence. The Brockville man was arrested and transported to police headquarters.

The Kingston man and woman were both charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The Brockville man was charged with trafficking cocaine.

Suspicious Person – Brockville Shopping Centre

Yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received a report from a 17 year old female who reported she was approached at the former TD Bank at the Brockville Shopping Centre and offered $100 to have pictures taken of her.

The victim contacted police advising that at approximately 2:30 pm yesterday she was at the Shopping Centre when the suspect described as a white male, approximately 5’8” tall, stocky build, wearing a dark T-shirt, baseball cap, and sunglasses approached her and asked if she wished to make $100 in 10 minutes. The suspect then offered to take pictures of her and when she declined, he left the area.

At the time of the call, officers responded to the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Warrant Executed

A 34 year old Brockville woman was arrested by Kingston Police and returned by Brockville officers early yesterday evening for a number of outstanding warrants.

The woman had outstanding warrants for failing to appear and was already facing Drug Possession and Breach of Probation charges before the latest arrest in Kingston.

Police Week Activities

Yesterday was the kick off for the annual Police Week activities for the Brockville Police Service. Chief Fraser welcomed an estimated 30 participants to an Interactive Presentation for Liquor Licensed Establishments and Special Events organizers at the New Hope Church. The event covered the various legislative requirements of licensed premises and introduced a new partnership program the Brockville Police is attempting to partner with establishments and event organizers in the community to make these activities fun, safe and family oriented for everyone.

Today from the 3pm – 5pm the Brockville Police are sponsoring a barbeque at Stingers in the Brockville Shopping Centre to complement our After School Program on Tuesday’s at the centre. All are welcome and donations will be accepted for the program at the barbeque.

As we approach the long weekend, the Brockville Police is requesting boaters be respectful of the water levels. Many homes along the shoreline are flooded or are close to flooding and a boat wake can make a difference. Even when boating up the main channel a boat wake can cause issues at shore. We are asking that boaters be considerate of the conditions over the coming weeks. An advisory for commercial shipping is still in effect and ships are travelling very slowly to ensure their wake is manageable.
