Monday May 15th marks the beginning of Police Week in Ontario and the Brockville Police Service and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario are providing a free educational and training session for all area licenced establishments and festival organizers as part of our Police Week activities. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the New Hope Tabernacle Church, 2811 Parkedale Avenue, Brockville, staff and volunteers who may work or serve alcohol are invited to attend this interactive and educational session.

In addition to the Liquor License Act, officers from the agencies present will speak about the new “No Colours” program under the Trespass to Property the Brockville Police Service is initiating, the municipal alcohol policy of the City of Brockville, and changes in the application process for Special Occasion and Catering permits.

There will also be a panel discussion with members of the Brockville Fire Department, City of Brockville, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and The Brockville Police Service participating.

Noise Complaint leads to Arrest for Breach of Conditions

A loud stereo in one of the apartment units at the corner of Salisbury Avenue and Reynolds Drive resulted in a 21 year old Brockville male being arrested and charged for failing to comply with his bail conditions.

Brockville Police received a call shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday evening from neighbours in the apartment complex who indicated their neighbours would not turn down their music. When officers arrived and spoke with the residents who eventually agreed to turn off the music. However, when checking they also learned the 21 year old male resident had not notified the police of his new address as per the conditions of his release from custody on a previous charge.

As a result, he is now facing an additional charge of Breaching his Undertaking and was released from custody with a future court date.

Traffic Ticket Scam

Yesterday the Brockville Police received several reports of the latest email scam to hit the area. Residents are reporting receiving an email from “City Council” stating they have been registered with a traffic infringement and there was some photographic evidence. They provide you with the amount due in the email and instructions on how to pay the fine. In many cases the scammer is looking for close to $900 in payment for the fine.

Police are advising residents not to respond to the email but simply ignore and delete the email. City Council does not email traffic infringement notices to offenders, nor do they have email address of all citizens to be able to do so.

Dangerous Conditions

The Brockville Police are warning city residents of the dangerous water conditions around the streams and creeks within the city.

With the spring run-off and large amounts of rain we have received and in the forecast this week, water levels are higher than normal and currents running much faster. Please stay clear of the streams and creeks and watch for children who may be playing in the area.

Mental Health

On the 29th of April, 2017 at approximately 6:00p.m., the Brockville Police Service received a complaint of a local, 46 year old, male suffering from suicidal thoughts at an apartment building in the South End of the city. Officers did locate the male and he was apprehended for a form 1 assessment. He was then escorted to the Brockville General Hospital where he was admitted for treatment.

Disturbance at Licenced Establishment

On the 29th of April, 2017 at approximately 10:00p.m., the Brockville Police Service was a dropped 911 call from a licenced establishment in the South End of the City. Officers attended and found a local, 60 year old, male who was intoxicated and involved in a disturbance. He was also failing to leave the premises when directed and would not identify himself to police. The male was placed under arrest. It was also found during the investigation that the male was in possession of a counterfeit Ontario drivers license card. He was released when sober and issued charges under the Trespass to Property Act and the Highway Traffic Act in regards to the drivers license.

Fire

On the 30th of April, 2017 at approximately 3p.m., the Brockville Police Service responded to the report of an active vehicle fire. The location was in the North End stretch of Stewart Blvd between Laurier Blvd and Centennial Rd. Brockville Fire Department was also in attendance. The fire consisted of a pick up truck with property in the rear box which had ignited due to causes unknown. No one was injured in the incident.

Shoplifting

On the 28th of April, 2017 at approximately 11:30, 3 youths were arrested for shoplifting in one of the North End department stores in the City. The theft was of a minor value and the items were recovered. All 3 youths were released without charges to their parents, however, have been diverted from court with an extrajudicial measure.

Warrants

On the 28th of April, 2017 at approximately 2:20p.m., a 36 year old local male turned himself into the Brockville Police Service on a bench warrant. The warrant was issued for the offences of failing to attend court, breaching his Officer In Charge Undertaking and also breaching his Recognizance. The male is being held in custody awaiting his next bail hearing on Monday the 1st May, 2017.

On the 29th of April, 2017 at approximately 12:00p.m., the Brockville Police Service located a 32 year old, local male, who had an outstanding warrant for two counts of breach probation. He was arrested and transported to the Brockville Police Service where he was later released on a promise to appear with a court date to answer to the charges.

Disturbance and Assault Police

On the 28th of April, 2017 at approximately 10:00p.m., the Brockville Police Service received a call of a local, 54 year old male who was very intoxicated in the downtown area of the City. He was described as walking in and out of traffic and falling down to the point that police received multiple calls. Officers attended to the scene to find two citizens holding the male. Officers took custody of the male. During that time, the male attempted to assault police officers by kicking them. He was transported to the Brockville Police Service to be lodged until sober. On multiple other occasions during that process, officers were assaulted by the male. The assaults were minor and officers sustained no injuries. Once sober, the male was release with a court date to answer to the offences of assault police and cause disturbance by being intoxicated.

Tires Slashed

Guests at the Holiday Inn Express woke up on Sunday morning to find their tires had been slashed in the parking lot overnight.

Brockville Police received a call from the hotel at 11:15 a.m. Sunday morning reporting three vehicles in the lot had their right rear tires slashed overnight. Sometime between 7:30 pm Saturday and Sunday morning unknown persons attended to the lot and damaged the vehicles tires.

Mattress Fire

A mattress in the back of a pick-up truck which caught fire Sunday afternoon on Stewart Boulevard was extinguished by the Brockville Fire Department.

Shortly before 3 p.m. officers were called to the area of Stewart Blvd at Victoria Road on a report of a mattress in the rear of a silver 2014 Dodge Ram truck. Officers on scene attempted to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher before the Brockville Fire Department arrived and eventually put the fire out. The truck suffered moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene.

At this time, the cause of the fire has not been determined.

Generator Theft

A George Street resident contacted Brockville Police Sunday afternoon reporting that he had his Generator and Scroll saw taken from the storage shed at the rear of his property.

Yesterday afternoon Brockville Police received a call from the victim at approximately 130 p.m. reporting sometime during the week of April 24-27th his 7500 Watt Generator and 16 inch Hitachi Scroll Saw were taken from his shed.

Fraud

On the 26th of April, 2017 at approximately 8 am, a 43 year old Brockville man attended to the Brockville Police Service to surrender himself as the person responsible for the fraudulent use of a credit card. The incident was originally reported on the 27th of March, 2017 and the man was identified with the assistance of social media. The Brockville resident was cooperative and released with future court date.

Warrants

On the 26th of April, 2017 police observed a 57 year old Brockville man while on general patrol. The man had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for failing to appear for fingerprints. The man was arrested, fingerprinted for outstanding matters and subsequently released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.

Warrants

On the 26th of April, 2017 a 49 year old Brockville man was located and arrested on the authority of an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The warrant had been issued in relation to a domestic incident reported on the 13th of April. The man was held for a bail hearing to appear on this date.

Threats

On the 26th of April, 2017 a 28 year old Brockville man was located and arrested after allegedly making threatening comments concerning a member of the judicial system. The man was cooperative with police and was held in custody to appear for a bail hearing on this date.

Mental Health Apprehension

On the 26th of April, 2017 a 61 year old Brockville woman was examined by her psychiatrist. The Doctor consequently issued a form one assessment and police consequently assisted in the woman’s apprehension and transport to the Brockville General Hospital. The woman was admitted for a necessary assessment surrounding mental health.

Impaired / Refuse Roadside

A 63 year old Brockville woman drove to the Brockville Police Service to report mischief to her vehicle. Police detected a strong odour of alcohol on her breath and demanded that she provide a sample of her breath to determine the concentration of alcohol in her blood. The woman refused to provide a sample of her breath and she was consequently charged with failing to provide a sample. The woman was released with a future court date. As a result of the refusal the woman’s car was impounded for 7 days and her licence immediately suspended for a period of 90 days as part of the Administrative Driver’s licence suspension program.

Well Being Check

At approximately 1:25 am Brockville Police were called to check on the well-being of a man near the railway tracks in the area of Perth Street. The 40 year old male was located nearby and spoke with police. As a precautionary measure , he was conveyed to the Brockville General Hospital where was examined by doctors.

Breaching Conditions 

Last evening Brockville Police attended a Broadway Avenue residence and located a 17 year old female out past her court ordered curfew.

At 10:30 last evening officers received a call of the youth out past her curfew. Shortly before midnight the youth was located at the apartment on Broadway. As a result she was conveyed home and was further charged with breaching those conditions and issued a future court date.

TM Suspect identified

The young man from the surveillance photo taken at the TD Bank Friday April 14th has been identified.

Corporate Security from the TD Bank contacted the Brockville Police Wednesday morning regarding damage done to one of its ATM machines on Friday April 14th at approximately 130 pm. Surveillance footage and a still photo were provided to police who sought the public’s assistance in identifying the young man involved.

Early Thursday evening, after police had received numerous tips of his identity, the male suspect attended to the Brockville Police of his own accord and turned himself in. He was charged with Mischief under $5000 and given a future court date.

Arrest Warrant Executed

A 39 year old Gananoque woman was arrested yesterday and returned to Brockville when she was located by the Gananoque Police.

While being dealt with by the Gananoque Police officers there discovered she had two outstanding warrants in Brockville for failing to attend for her fingerprints to be taken. As a result arrangements were made for Brockville and Gananoque officers to meet and transfer the woman into Brockville Police custody where she will be conveyed to Brockville Court today for a bail hearing.

Wal-Mart Theft Investigation

A male and female suspect is being sought in connection with a theft at Wal-Mart early yesterday afternoon.

Shortly after 12 noon yesterday, Loss Prevention officers at Wal-Mart observed a young female select two Home Theatre Systems and a Television, food and clothing a leave without attempting to pay. She was confronted by Loss prevention officers but fled to a waiting Chrysler Sebring Convertible driven by a male accomplice. The woman got into the vehicle and the couple fled the scene. Some of the items were recovered when she dropped them running to the car, and the value of the items taken was in excess of $1000.

Loss Prevention officers and police were able to obtain a license plate number of the vehicle and are presently reviewing video surveillance of the incident as this investigation is ongoing.

Mischief to ATM Machine

Staff at the TD Canada Trust contacted the Brockville Police yesterday afternoon to report that early Friday morning someone had kicked the ATM machine at their branch causing considerable damage.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Friday April 14th 3 males are observed in the vestibule area around the bank machines in the branch when the suspect described as being in his late 20’s, tall, slender build, wearing a blue t-shirt with white and red design on front, brown or tan pants, and dark shoes is observed kicking the ATM machine.

Domestic Disturbance

An early morning domestic disturbance today resulted in a 39 year old Brockville woman facing charges of Uttering Death Threats and going to court this afternoon for a bail hearing.

Police were called to a Central Ave apartment at 4:50 am this morning by the woman who was requesting officers attend the residence. When they arrived they found her common-law husband alone in the bedroom and the 39 year old woman intoxicated in the kitchen. While at the residence the dispute continued to escalate and the woman made several comments to the officers about her husband that caused officers to fear for his safety under the circumstances.

As a result, the woman was conveyed to Brockville Police headquarters until this afternoon when she will appear in Brockville court for a bail hearing.
